Great experience so far with this school.

My son just attended Middle School there and has transitioned to High School perfectly. He had a positive experience at Connect and they really prepared him academically. Academic has a high priority and I appreciate that! He was challenged in all academic areas and he blossomed in writing and math. I appreciate the traditional structure and academic focus.

This school was a horrible option. As a current student here, I went from moderate depression to severe depression in just one school year. The school has such an ego, there so blinded by keeping cmas test scores up, that they ignore students well-being and mental health. There's more than 200 hundred students and only 12 classrooms to teach in. They just bought all the teachers brand new smart boards, but we still don't have a bus system, so we're walking in the streets of downtown Pueblo. The teachers are just as confused about the idiotic ciriculam as the students are, and the school administrators are creepy, and disgusting. They priotize on keeping the school "traditional". For example I have friends in chess club, there's only two girls in chess club. They won't let those girls play with the boys so they can't compete in the tournaments because, there girls and can't play with the boys. When my friend went to the principal about this, Mr Hawkins, he said in these words, "well were all about tradition in this school". Through out my time in Connect over had suicidal thoughts and now i have to take anxiety medication. I'm only in 7th grade. Please do not go to this school.

Everything I have heard from kids coming home from this school is negative. This school has taken a very big toll on kids’ mental health. A child should not come home stressed and wanting to cry before and after school. They base everything on “tradition” meaning they are very sexist and homophobic. After all the time we have tried to get out of this “traditional” way that females and males were treated unfairly things have been different and changing except at this school. Everyone should feel safe and feel like they are okay to be who they are and not be afraid to get punished.

My experience with this school was nothing less of abysmal. Despite their imploded ego of being considered the "best school in pueblo" this school lacked in a multitude of areas. The first being lack inclusivity and safety from discrimination or harsh punishment. I once saw someone receive in school suspension for throwing a hot sauce packet; however, when it came time to punish students for using racial slurs specifically targeted at a student they received an "in-school suspension" in which they were openly allowed to mess around care free. This school also disregarded mental health. It would not matter of you were grieving, sick, or mentally exhausted they would prioritize a tone of "decency and trust a tone of excellence" above anything else; not even their students mental well-being. While there are some teachers at this school that are truly exceptional, they are over-worked and bunt out because of the school administration's insistence on using old-school and inefficient methods. For example, a teacher must hand grade over 120 papers for just one subject and the school still uses old projectors to teach. Even the report cards are handwritten by teachers. This school is also not suitable to those with disabilities. The curriculum is so repetitive that students have no desire to learn which puts them at a greater risk of being burnt-out before they even reach high school. The reason that the state test score are so high is because students will spend 3/4 of their time doing repetitive practice tests instead of learning actual material that will benefit them when they get to high school. Overall, I could never knowingly recommend this school to someone knowing the traumatizing experience that I endured.

Connect Charter School was NOT a pleasant experience for me, and here’s why. 1. The school is homophobic and many students apart of the LGBTQIA+ community were not excepted well here. 2. Unreasonable amount of homework. I stayed up late every night doing my homework, I didn’t get much sleep. 3. Stupid consequences! People get referrals for picking up leaves on walks, violating the very strict dress code, and even poking somebody as a joke. 4. They separate you from all of your friends. There is an extremely low chance you’ll be in the same classes as people from the previous school you attended. Clearly, in my eyes, I had a very negative opinion on Connect, would not recommend.

Where should I start? Well, many people have been crushed by this school and it’s horrible way of explaining things. Tutoring doesn’t work very well, at least for me. The science notebooks are ridiculous and if you take a single off day it’s back to work. In a coma? Sorry, you have work! I’ve been dealing with mental disorders for over a year now and this school isn’t helping. The school stated it ensures good well-being but in the end they shame students for having a C+, no kid deserves that. Another thing is that, they give college grade work to 6th graders and expect them to complete it perfectly. Like are you kidding me? WE ARE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. Keep in mind that they only take the A students and don’t acknowledge any accomplishments made by said students. Salt to the wound I say.

So tiring. As an 8th grader I can’t wait to leave. I just want to sleep without being worried about my side notes. Don’t treat us as human and are only impressed with test grades and people who like math. Work load is excruciating and don’t understand if a student is struggling. I’m scheduled to go to the doctor for the anxiety and suicidal thoughts this school has given me. I’m constantly staying awake to do homework and if not I’m always worried. Most of the teachers are nice and understanding but the curriculum is always a struggle. Even if I take a sick or mental health day it’s not like it helped. If you pick up work that day it’s due the next and if you pick it up when you go back into school you better be ready to turn it in the day after. Please if this school is having a similar affect to you like it is me please talk to someone you don’t have to struggle alone. Just make sure your science notebook has a table of contents hahahaha

Although Connect prides itself on its exclusivity, it is lackluster in terms of providing a good education and experience for the students involved. The consensus among students at this school is that it gives out excessive and unnecessary amounts of homework, which has been detrimental to the mental health of students. Furthermore, it is also criticized for having an approach to dealing with the issues of students which ranges from purposeful negligence to outright malice. If you were to ask nearly any student who has attended the school what their opinion on it was, their response will be negative. The only positive aspect of Connect is that it offers advanced classes in varying subjects. However, the majority of other local middle schools offer similar opportunities along with options Connect does not provide, such as school lunches, sports teams, bus transport, and more. Overall, Connect's disregard for students is immense, and its status as an exclusive school should not diminish this matter.

While Connect's curriculum seems challenging at first, it makes more sense over time, especially with the help of the amazing teachers at Connect. The tutoring really helps. Everyone is very friendly, and there are plenty of extracurricular activities to participate in. The opportunity to try the ACT early on has been very helpful. History Day is a lot of fun, and students develop their leadership, teamwork, and research skills in addition to their academic knowledge. Definitely enroll at Connect if you're up for a challenge.

I am currently in 6th grade and had to choose between this school and another. I was covinced the other was better until i took the tour. I am exited to go here, now that I truly believe that this is a great school.
