My child just completed his first year of Kindergarten at PES and we had nothing but positive experiences. His teacher was awesome and always kept in touch about everything, she would even take the time to call just to let us know how well behaved our child is. I wouldn't have changed a single thing about his first year of school thanks to PES.

Great school! Very community minded and the teachers are very in tune with the children. I have a son at Powell High School & now another son in Kindergarten at Powell & plan never to leave. Love this community!

This school is horrible. I don't know what they do in school all day. My child is in kindergarten and she loves to learn and she entered this school advanced and now she knows less then when she went in. They do not challenge or teach the kids at all. The only thing they focus on is teaching them to obey like puppies. My childs report card is not accurate, My daughter could write her first, middle and last name before she even started school (the teacher even told me she was impressed because my child was the only one that could write her first and last name with no help) but on her first report card it said she was below average on that. The staff spends more time hanging out and gossiping then teaching including the principles. I could go on and on but I wont. I have applied for a transfer for next year if its not approved I will be home schooling my child. Oh I forgot they do teach the kids how to raise money, I can ask her what she learned today she will say nothing every time but when they do a fundraiser she can tell you every detail and they have fundraisers more then any school I have ever seen.

Teachers not involved enough in helping each child. I get that it is hard to give one on one to each individual student but when it is needed it should be given. My son gets bored quickly with the things they are learning in class because he already knows most of it. The things he does need help with he's not getting the help needed. I do all I can with him at home but I am no teacher. Understaffed is what seems to be the problem.

Wonderful, involved teachers. Lots of parent participation. Friendly staff. I have no worries about the quality of my kids' education at Powell.

My school is on track with providing a great education in the classrooms and providing strong leadership skills

They don't look at what you can do. My son is very much above average, but the whole class "has to stick together", so he sits there half the time and I'm afraid he's going to get bored and waste his brain. And, according to him, a child with Dyslexia in his class has to do the same work as everyone else. It's not the school, it's the stupid No Child Left Behind law. The worst mistake the US government ever made (educationally).

I hate to be negative, but this school is terrible. My son started elementary school at a different school, where he was challenged and learned so much in such a short amount of time. When he started at Powell, he regressed. He started in the middle of the year in first grade and they did not care about his previous history or test scores or abilities. They did not take him where he was at and progress from there. Every child is expected to do the exact same work, regardless of what they are ABLE to do harder work. His 1st grade teacher was awful, but thankfully his 2nd grade teacher is wonderful. However, the are not enough teachers or resources for the kids to excel. The only kids they worry about are the ones that are behind..The school is ran like a military school with bathroom monitors in the bathroom to tell on the students for talking! The parent participation in this school is slim to none and if you do have concerns, the principals acts as if you are TOO involved! I swear, I have never ever seen the assistant principal smile. Never! My son STILL has NO homework and he is in 2nd grade and they are still only doing math/addition! & they do not care about reading. Awful.
