Do not fear the low ratings! Many students are coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, non-English speaking households, special needs, etc. and the ratings reflect this reality versus the quality of education being provided. If you advocate for your child’s needs and say they need access to more challenging content for instance, the teachers, principal, and administration will work with you to meet your student’s needs. You might have to get creative, but it is possible to carve out a unique plan for your child in a culturally rich and diverse setting. Understanding how to engage with people from diverse backgrounds in today’s world is an invaluable skill and you will get this at Krieger. There is no need to pay private school tuition where the school must create a “multi-cultural club”, when the culture is accessible right in your own community. If your child is high achieving and you are an engaged parent, join us at Krieger and contribute your time and knowledge to be the change you wish to see in the world. Krieger is a fantastic community school.

We are new to the school and my son started in 2nd grade. We lucked out with Mrs.Coleman as his teacher and she is a dream. She is a wonderful teacher as well as a person. She is nurturing, extremely patient and kind. She gives homework on Monday and gives you all week to complete it. In todays world that is much appreciated with so many different after school activities. My son gets very distracted and had alot of catching up to do from last year during covid. He does come home with the usual banter stories from lunch and recess. Kids will be kids, but he has heard some not so nice words and seen behaviors that he did not see in his previous school. We are noticing that he is not challenged as much as he should be for a second grade class. Many of the children are behind in his class. My son has also heard other teachers , not his own, saying not nice things about other students and some teachers are strong with their approaches. The arrival and drop off procedures could also be more organized. Overall we are very satisfied with the teacher, but not so much with the overall school experience.

I believe the teachers are not properly trained to deal with/handle/teach children with special needs. I believe the students are disciplined unfairly . I often hear teachers yelling instead of understanding why the child is upset. I for one know that certain children with autism , sensory processing disorders, add etc...deal with situations differently. My child was banned from the end of the year school trip for basically" struggling" he is not a trouble maker he would never hurt a fly. He's actually very loving and sensitive. In the spring/summer time he is on sensory overload.and anyone that has experience with autism would know this. I believe this is truly unfair (although the trip would too overwhelming for him anyway)..every student every day every classroom? I think not

I absolutely love Krieger! Great teachers and staff! People may find it hard to believe but the reason my husband and I bought our home in the city and near the school was to raise our children in the city and have them go to city schools! My daughter started in 2007 and will finishing her 5th grade year and off to PMS we go! She had the best K teacher in the world! It has just been an exceptional experience from the day we walked in until.now the day we walk out! Now with my little guy at the ELC which also has been great and will be at Krieger in the 1st grade I can't wait to watch him go through all the school experiences with such wonderful teachers and staff! Krieger kids rock!

My daughter went to this school K-2 a few years back. It is a challenged school and has many at risk students. It was fine for her at that age, but there is no way I would have kept her there beyond 4th grade. They have no gifted services and she was not identified until we left the school. The classes are quite crowded and the students have many issues. The kids that are performing well are largely ignored. Having said all of this, however, I will say that my daughter's Kindergarten teacher was the best. I don't think she's at the school anymore, but she was the reason we stayed at the school as long as we did.

Krieger is a gift to elementary school-aged students. after a few years in a private school, our daughter made the switch to this neighborhood school and what a difference! The teachers are warm, welcoming and driven. The students are polite, focused, and motivated to suceed. The principals are very active and present and seem to know each and every student and parent. We could not be happier.
