Cabin John is a wonderful middle school. Caring and very knowledgeable teachers and administrators. Great music program too. Highly recommend it.

The teachers are good, but it is a rigorous and a competitive environment. It is not easy to fit in if you are new. There is limited assistance if the student is experiencing social challenges. Unfortunately I have found the counselor unhelpful in resolving any issues. We moved to the area for this school and it has been disappointing so far.

This school is overall pretty good, and I'd definitely recommend it. There are no bullies to speak of and the leadership is awesome. My only concern was the band teachers, who are horrible. They yell and scream at the kids and what happens is astonishing. One of the teachers was in the marine corps band, which explains some of the stories the stories that come home. All in all, I would not recommend this school to those who are interested in band and orchestra. Otherwise its a great school. Again, a warning to parents: DO NOT PUT YOUR KIDS THROUGH THE BAND PROGRAM.

Our family transferred into the CJMS school boundary from a different part of Montgomery County and couldn't be happier. The teachers are terrific and the Center for Enriched Studies (CES) program, Math program, Science, Foreign Language, Band, etc. are all excellent. As a parent, I read one of the negative ratings before my kid entered this year, expecting the worst, but pleasantly surprised that the programs and kid's school experience was far better than expected. No complaints on our end. Maybe the ratings were just old? It's a fine school with great programs. My kid was motivated academically, and even requested I get books (chemistry, computer sci) to flip through before bedtime. That type of academic motivation is rare amongst schools. Honestly, our family and my kid feels it's a 10 out of 10.

CJMS is the best middle school in Montgomery county, hands down. I don't know how Greatschools rates schools here, but get this from a local parent: this school is the best middle school in this area. Wonderful teachers and great cohort of students. It does have larger class size, as all public schools in MCPS do nowadays. But the cohort of students and teacher body sets this school apart. in 2021, CJMS made a record of number of students who get in ALL State and All County orchestra and band programs, which is also a record for any Maryland schools. Academics is also strong, thanks to the wonderful teachers and parents who focus on improving kids' academic growth. Location wise, it is convenient as well as safe, situated in a great neighborhood with easy access to commute. Thank you, CJMS!

Awesome teachers at CJMS. My daughter loves the school and friends. I understand why people want to move to Potomac.

My daughter loves middle school and has really flourished both as a student and socially. Her teachers are outstanding. Class sizes are a bit high in some subjects but still great for a public school. Some classes are mixed level but math and english are leveled. Cabin John draws on an amazing community. The school is consistently one of the top performing schools in Maryland. Since attending Cabin John she has developed a great love of music and says band is her favorite class. The teacher has very high expectations but the results are amazing. The concerts sound professional. Her teacher encouraged her to audition for county honors and she made it her first year. We noticed that Cabin John had almost twice as many students than any other middle school represented at the county concert.

CJMS is overall class size is mid size for most classes. The kids there are ready to learn so the teachers have an easier task to teach than spending time on classroom control. Pleased with the education my kids are getting there. Except for the band teacher who seem to lack the nurturing characteristics. One example of his dismal teaching was how he embarrassed one of his student by sending him off the stage in front of the all the parents at band concert. The kid missed one entire piece, then this teacher stopped the concert for 10mins , took the kid after he returned to tune his instrument and when the student returned he was moved to the end position. That's is really pathetic. Any good band teacher would have tuned his band before the concert. Lousy way to encourage a kid to love music! My kid hates band now because of this teacher.

Top-notch teachers and facility. Kids are challenged to reach their full potential at Cabin John. Supportive and nurturing environment for the adolescent years--nice (and smart) children, involved parents, and conscientious administration.

Moved to the neighborhood for the schools and we have been very satisfied with Cabin John Middle School. Well worth the higher home prices!

My son graduated from this school and overall I must say we were quite pleased. The majority of teachers were quite good and they had high academic standards for the students. When help was need my son always got it.

My daughter graduated last year. Nice new building, overall great teachers BUT the administration is horrible! The worst principal I have ever see! The School Board must know as she wears her overall incompetence daily!

Bullying is a big problem at this school and the staff that is suppose to be taking care of it don't really do anything. The bully's are allowed to stay in school and the parents are not notified of their behavior. The bullies know there are no consequences so they just escalate the behaviors. Document everything and fill out the bullying forms as well as email. This gives a paper trail to get your child out. it took me six months but i was able to get my son moved to Frost which has been wonderful.

If your child is above average, your child will be fine here. There is limited extra for the kids and they bus kids from all over the county so it is hard for the kids to make long term friendships. If you child as an IEP, but not severe, some of the staff are not talented or interested enough to educate them (although some are excellent). go private if you can.
