Our 7yo has been attending Arleta and we are so grateful of its great community, devoted teachers, and excellent after school program called SUN School. We love Arleta!

We have our 2 kids at Arleta for 3 & 4 years now, and couldn't be happier or more impressed with the teachers, staff and the school community. Teachers are very dedicated and show extreme care for the kids, their success and well-being. In addition, there is great (free!) after school programs through Sun school and a large group of very engaged parents, further strengthening the community for everyone involved in the school.

Our two kids are in their second year at Arleta and we have had such a positive experience! The teachers are very communicative and the new Principal is very involved and supportive. We love the feeling of community here and the daily morning concert from the teachers. I can't recommend this school highly enough!

My child is in first grade at Arleta and I can’t tell you how much we love the school. Teachers are great and the parent community is super inviting, supportive, and involved. in addition to a strong core curriculum, students take art, music, and PE. I’m not sure what else a parent could ask for their child!

We have been an Arleta family for the past seven years. The school has made amazing improvements in regards to school leadership, family engagement, and inclusivity of BIPOC and neurodiverse and/or disabled families. We love the Arleta teaching staff; they are engaged, communicative and supportive of our kids and do everything they are able to help them succeed. We have music, library, PE and art along side two very active school counselors and a thriving after school enrichment program. I appreciate our PTA and the multiple events they hold every quarter. I always imagined my family going to a specialty program or charter school but we are very happy with Arleta. I do wish the academic program was a bit more rigorous but feel like the social emotional learning and support makes up for that.

We love our Arleta community! Both my kids have had outstanding teachers and experiences there, and the PTA and volunteers have put in a lot of effort to host events and inclusive activities to support community building. The "ratings" don't tell a complete story, or an accurate one at all. I'd encourage anyone within the Arleta boundary to check it out and ask questions of current families. Parent volunteers are always willing to give a tour, just email ArletaSchoolPTA at gmail.com. Check out arletapta.org for calendar of events, school news and check out all the great things happening at our neighborhood school!

This school is a hidden gem. The numbers don't accurately reflect the dedication and the support that families receive from the teachers and school administration. There is a real commitment to learning and to support children that need extra help. The teachers have been very responsive to the needs of my kids and are very easy to communicate with and responsive. I feel as though the teachers work with me as a parent as a team to help my children learn and grow. There is also a phenomenal social-emotional program at the school.

Parent of a fourth grader and have loved this school community despite some struggles with staffing issues over the years. Note this is a k-5 school since 2020-21 school year.

Arleta is an amazing school, a total hidden gem. It has incredible community involvement. Teachers are very good, and we have an amazing new principal who is making it even better. There's a fantastic music program, and robust parent/volunteer led theater club and garden club, and very positive community. We're in our 5th year at Arleta and could not be happier with it.

Arleta serves a neighborhood that is making a big transition, as many Portland neighborhoods are. We're very pleased to see a lot of parental support of the teachers and staff, and we feel like we're given many opportunities to participate in the success of the school. Our primary goals for our child's kindergarten experience were that he have an opportunity to continue developing healthy social skills and not hate going to school. He's very happy with Arleta so far, and so are we.

The school reflects the community. There are people from diverse walks of life, and we care about each other.

Arleta continues to improve year after year. Parental involvement has really helped grow the community. The teachers are quite good, overall, my elementary students have had a good experience at this school.

We've been very happy with our experience at Arleta, our neighborhood school. My child's teachers have been great — capable and compassionate. My daughter has made great friends and we've loved getting to know a lot more families in our neighborhood. Like all PPS schools, Arleta could use more funding for teachers and educational assistants. But Arleta students do get music, PE and there's even a school band. It's wonderful to walk around the school and hear music being played. And Arleta parents are caring and engaged and willing to step up. There's a real sense of community. The PTA is strong and active and works closely with administrators. And after-school options for things like basketball and musical theater club are run by parents. While my family looked at lottery focus-options schools, I've been very glad our child ended up at Arleta. And for incoming kindergarten parents deciding on a school, I'd urge them to take a tour of the school and talk with current parents, and not solely rely on online ratings. Those only tell part of the story. Because there are so many good things happening at Arleta.

This is our second year at Arleta. I had always thought I would send my kid to a "specialty" school - charter or private, but when the time came, neighborhood was best! We did get in at a charter for Kindergarten, but turned it down after meeting and forming a relationship with the Kindy teacher. Our son was a reluctant school-goer for preschool, but has been happy (for the most part) to go to both K and 1st. Every day they have either PE, Music, or Art, kids can be in theatre even in the early grades, and there is an active PTA to keep it that way even as funding crises arise. We love having so many friends so close, and have playdates several times a week. The school is an inclusive environment, with posters everywhere that welcome all families, which is of major importance to our family.

Arleta k8 has many challenges and, in my opinion, meets them with competence, good intent, and a positive attitude. I'm not just talking about one or two people, I'm talking about a staff wide 'can do' attitude. It is evident in the growing PTA, the smiles on the kids' faces that go there, the relief on the parents' faces that this little gem is our neighborhood's school. This is a school on a clear, demonstrated path of growth and success. In a couple more years there will be a wait list to get your kid in here. Parents continue to get more and more involved, more and more students that come, stay through the eighth grade (this is a new development). Enrollment is growing.I don't say these things lightly, due to a couple moves, our girl and boy attended four other pre schools and elementary schools. Factoring in the ease in our family unit's life by living within walking distance of school, our total family's life and health is now far better thanks to Arleta. My wife and kids no longer spend 2 hours per day in traffic driving to an out of area school. Our kids play dates are all within ten blocks of where we live... These things are huge, and not to be discounted. The academics are okay, not stellar, and definitely not terrible. They are competent. I think that is a reflection on the challenges each teacher faces with a diverse student body. There is no doubt in my mind that the kids teachers are excellent. I've watched them teach, see how they organize their classrooms, and seen how the kids get down to business. While the music program is very strong, I feel the visual arts program currently is the weakest program at the school. I'm sure it will improve as enrollment grows, because the extra students will bring extra funding.Overall class sizes average less than 25 kids per class, every middle school student has a chrome book. Just as importantly, the counseling and support is adequately funded, interpersonal problems between students are dealt with in a compassionate, yet firm way.I want to be clear, I'm not saying the school is perfect and shouldn't change a thing. There are many challenges, and in my opinion, they are being honestly dealt with, subject to reality. All in all, I drop my kids off each morning confident that they have a great chance to thrive that day. Our kids have now been there for multiple teachers each, we plan to stay.

I am not happy with how things are run at Arleta. The vice principal is excellent. That however is the only thing that I would give 5 stars to. My child has had so many issue with bullying and has had a really tough time at this school. My child has been going there for 4 years, and every year seems to get worse and worse. It's ridiculous. My child will not be coming back next year.

We have been at Arleta for the last three years and have loved every minute of it. The teachers and staff are outstanding. They foster a love of community, academics and the arts. They are dedicated and caring. Families in the neighborhood volunteer their time to support this wonderful school. My children have made many friends in the neighborhood through the school. They love attending Arleta!

Arleta is our neighborhood school and we love being part of the school community. This year I'll have a 3rd grader and kindergartener. Our 3 years at Arleta have been great and my son's teachers have been excellent. The administration is very approachable and responsive to questions and concerns. There is a great group of talented parents who always help out in the classroom and for special events. My kids have made many friends at Arleta and enjoy visiting their friends in the neighborhood. Great School!
