I wish I had a list of nice things to say, but I do not ... I will say we are lucky with the science and math teacher my son has, but his language and social studies teacher is a different story. I don't blame her entirely either, There is just a failure in the whole communication system at this school. Parents and teachers and administration do not talk or communicate like they should. I think some of the teachers, don't feel supported by parents or staff, have trouble with students not listening or being respectful, parents blaming the teachers for the class room problems, administration not handling the behavioral issues or bullying problems... not enough support for the students with special needs and accommodations and are integrated into main stream classes without proper support (for the child or the staff). Unfortunately a lot of these problems are wide spread throughout the county and not just the one school. It just sucks because for every good thing that can be said about some of the staff , there are more not so good things to say about others. But the biggest issue is with the lack of talking and listening .... I have said on multiple occasions there is a huge difference between listening and hearing.... just cause some one heard you doesn't mean they listened to your words.... This school could be an amazing school if everyone tried to work together instead of just dealing with each other...

My son just started first grade at Gulf Highlands. I cannot recommend them, as so far there has been zero communication from either the school or the teacher. I don't know what my kid is learning or doing. I don't know if there are events at school. I don't know how to help at home because there is no list of sight words being sent home weekly. Maybe the school is doing great and I just don't know. Zero communication. Edit: The only communication sent home was to inform me this school has an "F" rating and my kid can transfer to a different school. How is it even legal for schools like this to exist and perform so badly?

Staff is extremely rude. Pick-up line is a disaster...They REALLY don't have it together at all. I'm researching other schools because I actually do care about my child's education.

The staff is working hard to have more community involvement . It's the area and families that don't participate that reflect the schools grade. More organization is needed but the volunteer power isn't there.

Worst school my kids have ever gone to !!! Mrs Cosh is horrible. Teachers tell students they're dumb as rocks, students bully and nothing is done About it. If you don't care about your child this is the place to send them.

Our school has gone through some transition in the last two school years. Gulf Highlands has very committed teachers and staff. Our Principal, Mrs. Smucker and our Asst Principal, Mrs Allen are our "Dynamic Duo" of education administrators, and award winning, too! We have a committed core of volunteers made up of parents and community members. The school and grounds are kept in impeccable condition by Mr. Kelly and the custodial staff. We look forward to the 2012-2013 school year and creating a learning environment in which all of our students will thrive. At Gulf Highlands Elementary we are proud to say..We Believe in You!
