Review of The Piney Woods SchoolOur family chose The Piney Woods School with high hopes for an enriching and supportive educational experience, given its longstanding legacy and mission. Unfortunately, our experience has been deeply disappointing.While the school has historical significance and a dedicated mission to empower students, it has fallen short in critical areas. The lack of communication and transparency from the Administration, particularly from the Dean of Academics, has been frustrating and detrimental. Emails and requests for help regarding my daughter's academic and emotional well-being went unanswered, creating unnecessary stress and leaving critical issues unresolved.Academically, the promises made in welcome letters and parent-teacher conferences were not upheld. For example, weekly updates were promised but never delivered, leaving us uninformed about our daughter's progress. Additionally, there were significant oversights in course placement, such as delays in enrolling students in essential classes like foreign language.The emotional support provided to students is also lacking. My daughter, once a confident and high-achieving student, experienced undue stress and anxiety during her time at Piney Woods, stemming from inadequate academic support and dismissive responses to her concerns.Furthermore, concerns about faculty qualifications and the school’s leadership raise serious questions about oversight and accountability. The lack of support for students and the apparent conflict of interest within the administration have contributed to a declining student body and educator turnover.While The Piney Woods School has great potential, it urgently needs a complete restructuring to align its practices with its mission. Transparent communication, qualified and supportive faculty, and a focus on student well-being must become priorities to ensure the school’s legacy continues.I sincerely hope the school addresses these challenges and fulfills its promise of providing an empowering and supportive educational experience for all its students.

I am a former student of the Piney Woods School. I received a great education. I’m looking forward to sending my granddaughter there for 2025.

Do not send your children to this school. I worked here briefly in 2017 and this school should be audited and closed IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!

There was no school nurse, no counselor, and the front desk lady was teaching social studies. They also have massive ego and pride issues that cause them to bully the students. There is no emotional support, no empathy for sick kids, and they sent my daughter back to class after a 2-day Covid quarantine. The students are forced to work for free, not even paid a qtr an hour, and my child was told the school would not be able to provide vegetarian meals. The principal and the teachers gossip about the students openly, and discuss their sexuality with disdain. They also refused to verbally communicate with me. School is severely understaffed and underfunded. Dormitories are in disrepair, bathrooms are moldy. The most unprofessional staff I have ever seen. This school only cares about money, not about educating children or helping them succeed.

This by far is the worst school to send your child. The school use to be excellent but has declined due to poor leadership. The facilities are deteriorating with no heat or a/c and is unorganized. There were times that the kids didn’t know where to go or what to do. The student body is under 60 kids and this school doesn’t even have a computer lab or the right resources to prepare the students. This has to be the worst school I’ve ever seen and the administration is unorganized and understaffed. Teachers are leaving every month. It’s sad because this school use to be great!

If an audit took place, it would reveal poor academic performance, ethical breaches and a poor working relationship between the schools' governing board and administration. They hired a Director of Communications to make the school look pretty on the outside (new website, social media, etc.) but internally it is very unattractive and disappointing given the school's history. Do NOT send your children here. They don't have enough to eat.
