For anyone who is sick and tired of the public school run around, this place is for your kids! This school really CARES for your kids, not just about what they're wearing (ie uniforms...yuck!). True, there is no grass and it isn't aesthetically appealing, but it is a SCHOOL, not a luxury hotel. They are there to learn...and they do! The family atmosphere and small classes are terrific! You can't beat the one-on-one between the teachers and students. The whole staff makes you feel like you are family. Kids don't care about what their library looks like or their cafeteria. All they do is slam a lunch and run out to play anyway! They have many fun clubs and after school activities too. My 3 kids are now in high school and they have been going here since kindergarten. They have learned more and had more fun at this school than my older children did at public schools. I love this school and so do my kids. If this school wasn't around, I would never send my kids back to a public school. I would home school them. (And to the person that wrote one of the reviews below: No, I do not and never have worked at this school, and I don't have any family members working there either)

I apologize that your son has had problems at Westland. I did not call you back because I did not receive the message. You did not speak to me when you came in to withdraw your son, either. To my knowledge there has only been one problem and that was addressed immediately. Your son was very apologetic for his role in the problem and I appreciated his honesty. We try to address every problem, and sometimes problems are handled by the staff, and not all of the students are informed that the problem was dealt with so your son may not have seen what the coach did about it. The homework problem happened when a substitute was in the classroom and the students were spoken to about their behavior. Though you have withdrawn your son, I am still going to look into the issue in PE. Students should not be spinning others around like that. I wish you'd had a better experience with u,s and I hope you have a great year.

I wish I could say this school is top notch but since the begging of this year my son has had more problems here than he ever did in his old school. It doesn't help that when we go to the principal she says "Oh no that's not happening, that's not what happened. Your son has to be over exaggerating." I have had my son come home with home work and say. I have more home work because the teacher was supposed to get though 4 pages of work but the kids wouldn't shut up and listen so we only got one page done. Now I have three pages of home work. I have had him come home telling me kids are turning the lights off on him when he is in the bathroom. I have had him come home. Yesterday September 25th 2014. Telling me a kid at school Name I know but will not say here, grabbed him around the waist spun him around and tossed him on the ground. He told the coach and apparently nothing was done. Genie the front office person. I like her, said that she would have the principal call me right back.. well here it is noon the next day and still no call. I am close to pulling my kid out. His grades have gone down and before they go down worse I am considering getting him online schooling.

My two boys have been attending here for 2 to 3yrs now and I have never had any complaints. The teachers n office are very involved with the kids and show concern as well as great teaching skills and more. I recommend this school to my friends and family. I love the small class settings and how all kids get along. Its a great school and very much recommend it.

My kids have been attending Westland going on three years. We chose the charter school route because my son has an IEP and the public school was definitely not doing their job. I love the smaller class sizes it help the teachers give that one on one attention that some students need. My kids also like the fact that school does feel like a family and that is the way schools were when I was younger. I agree the school does not look like much and of course there are things needed like a real lunchroom and maybe some grass, but remember the old saying,"don't judge a book by its cover." I would recommend this school to anybody and have.

I love this school. I know if I call that my children's teachers will call me back. I can call anytime to ask about my kids and actually talk to someone. My kids like their teachers.

I AM WONDERING IF ALL THE REVIEWS FROM PARENTS THAT ARE POSITIVE ARE PARENTS THAT WORK AT WESTLAND... HA HA HA... MOST LIKELY...THERE ARE ALOT OF STAFF WHOSE KIDS ATTEND THERE...

Westland is how schools used to be. There are teachers who care and love teaching. They have smaller class sizes where our children are taught by teachers who really care. Students can begin going to college during their senior year of high school. There have been several graduates who have graduated with 15 college credits. It's a great way for the kids to go beyond what the school can teach them on campus. It's nice to know that if the kid has reached that level, that they are encouraged to go on and even helped by the school to be sucessful in college. It's a great transition for some of these kids.

This is my daughters 1st yr. at this school , so far it doesn't rank very high with me. She entered this school needing special education , IEP , they don't offer any , their idea is to keep the kids in class with no out of class tutoring , no special arrangements nothing really to aid in the development of a child that is behind grade level , its ridiculous, seems like each student is just a $ from the government , as long as the kid shows up , they get paid
