Doesn’t have good teachers or learning system and doesn’t take care of bullying and doesn’t pay attention to mental health.

The GATE program is phenomenal at this school. My 6th grader is engaged, challenged, and thriving. Her teachers are stellar, and she loves the school. Our only complaint is that there isn't much in the way of extracurriculars if you aren't an athlete. They cut the dance team, and the school musical almost didn't happen as well.

If you have an intellectually gifted student, this is where you want to send them! This school provides the challenge and support needed for an intellectually gifted student to excel. They provide a full GATE (gifted and talented education) curriculum. The GATE teachers are generally excellent. They allow your child to take math classes at Desert Vista in 8th grade if they have completed High School Geometry at Altadena before their 8th grade year. They not only care about challenging the gifted learner but they have the processes in place to support them. As a parent of an 8th grade graduate from the Altadena program, I am very grateful that they got my child's unique needs. Don't try and make another middle school work for your gifted learner. Send them to a school that welcomes their uniqueness - Altadena!

Don't send your kids here. The needs of the students are often overshadowed by the school's want to be an "A+ school of excellence", and this school fosters hatred among its students. The community is toxic, the kids are often privileged and out of control. The school pays little attention to the kid's need for mental and emotional support during this really hard point in their lives. When I went to this school, I marked myself as someone who needed help regarding depression, and suicide, and the treatment I got was disgusting. My little sister has to go here next year, and honestly, I afraid for her. I don't want her to have to go through what me and many of my peers did, just because this school refuses to get better.

My daughter loves this school so much, she does not want to move out of the area, which is not an easy task with a 12-year old girl. While academically she is doing very well and is proud of her school, I find they do very little outside of the box. There are very few trips or after-school clubs or diversity. Any after-school-activities are pretty costly. But she loves it and gets good grades so the proof is in the pudding.

My children have thrived at Altadena Middle School. All of the staff (teachers, admin and office) are knowledgeable, helpful and courtesy. Altadena year after year increases their overall score for state testing in all categories. The below reviews are out dated - 2.5 years old! The new principal is great, very involved and wants Altadena to be a positive part of the community.
