Amazing school with devoted teachers, administrators, and staff! Can't say enough good things about our experience at Scribner! I have 2 boys enrolled there now and it has an array of amazing extracurricular opportunities and academic focus that is challenging for all. High parental involvement!

Scribner is amazing! We have moved frequently with my husband's employment, this is the third school my children have attended, and I am blown away at the difference between Scribner and their previous schools. Before school even began they had a "new kids club" meeting where the guidance counselor met with the kids and the parents met with the principal to address any concerns. The support from the school counselor continued after school began and made a difficult time for my children so much easier. The principal is warm and friendly and obviously committed to seeing his school succeed. The teachers are competent and motivated, and the test scores speak for themselves! Is there such a thing as a perfect school- probably not, but anyone who rates Scribner a "1" has probably never seen a school that truly deserves a "1". This is a school that has everything I hoped for for my children-a great education by caring and competent staff and even the added bonus of superb music education!! My nine year old daughter, who is very shy and never enjoyed school in the past, told me how much happier she feels at school since she started at Scribner. That speaks volumes to me!

We found with both of our kids that the school taught only to the NYS annual ELA and Math exams. Transition for our kids to middle school from Scribner Rd has been difficult since what was review in math to most of the other kids in the district, was new material to those from Scribner Rd. With review done Sept and Oct of the prior year, teaching to the state exams mid Winter, the kids really only are presented new material for a short period. It made Scribner rank #1 in NYS exams in the area, but it certainly hasn't helped the children with success in the following years.

It seems that a lot has changed since some of these prior reviews were wrtiten. The music program was cut and if your child was in band and was supposed to have a private lesson, that teacher was there 2 days per week. Since many days off are Friday, (4 in the first 3 months), that was missed for kids with lessons that day. If your child has learning differences (ADHD, LD, Autisim, etc) , you should NOT come to Penfield for an education. Those kids are pushed from grade to grade and struggle. Teachers can't possibly give the attention to those and there is little in the form of special ed. Parental involvement with clubs is excellent, teachers put in many hours but it doesn't seem to be appreciated or recognized by the Administration. Budget cuts can be blamed but total disregard of NYS and Federal Law when it comes to students with disabilities is a tragedy.
