Horrible communication. Large turnover of teachers, but mostly principals. Sad that even when a parent is involved and openly and kindly communicating their feelings with the leaders, they are disregarded.

We had our ups and downs at Wilson with our three kids. There are several wonderful teachers and the aids are truly amazing. However, there are many more teachers and staff who are there for the job. The discourage parent involvement in most classrooms. In most of the classrooms I did get a chance to volunteer in, I was not interacting with the kids at all. I was usually in the hall orgainizing something or prepping something. I understand that is all needed and I'm perfectly willing to help in any way possible but I was hoping to have opportunities to see the teacher at work, see my son or daughter in class and have a chance to get to know their classmates. That only happened once and that teacher has retired. The school has a tendancy to hire brand new teachers who are still learning at our children's expense. The PTA is also very cliqueish. If you aren't part of the group of three moms who run the school you simply aren't included. They aren't open to knew ideas or help. They do expect parents to show up, without thanks, and without input though. I've also noticed that they don't hold elections or announce meetings. It's very difficult to get involved. I do have to say that the aids at Wilson made a huge difference in our son's life. They treated him with love and care. If it weren't for them I'm not sure he would be reading. He doesn't have a learning disability but struggled with the teaching methods in the classroom. This school is lacking a structured reading program that truly encourages kids to read. The only incentive program they use is a drawing system. For every 20 minutes they read they are entered into a drawing. The problem is that the drawing can just as easily pull the names of kids who read twenty minutes as those who read for hours - a huge frustration of our daughters. She developed a "why try" attitude that has followed her into Junior High School. This school caters to the kids who struggle and do nothing for kids who are at grade level or above. Bullying is also an issue. The only resource available to the teachers is to send the offender to "skills". Most often though the bullied student is made to feel that they equally cary the blame. Bullies go to skills and come back at the end of the day with candy - having just enjoyed a day off of the classroom. Parents are rarely notified of issues on either side.

I have had four children go through Wilson Elementary. They all had great experiences there. They have some super amazing teachers that go above and beyond expectation. Great school!

Very bad experience there! I am so glad we moved our kids to a different school. Total lack of support from the teacher!

I happen to disagree with the other parent's comments I am a working Mother and this is a highly Mormon community that a lot of Mom's do NOT work. I volunteer my time in other ways rather than IN the classroom, by providing tools to the teacher and assisting with classroom supplies, and offer assistance as needed. I am very hands on with my child...and I don't think that because I am not at the PTA or visible during the school day that it has lacked in my child's education. My son is dyslexic and he has had amazing teachers go way outside of their realm to see him succeed. The principal is very hands on as well. I will give this school five stars for going above and beyond (outside of the classroom to see my child succeed), as well as the communication between principal, teacher and parent is superb. I don't think the quality of the school is based on the parents...it is a combination of all three. And as long as you are working to make your child succeed...the elements at this school are perfect!

Great Principal who is very involved with the parents but Teachers vary in effectiveness. One teacher doesn't want parent involvement in the class room which I find odd but my son does well in her class. The biggest problem with the school is that it falls in a demographic where parents choose not to get involved and it shows in the quality of student. A few parents and a good staff hold the core of a good education though.
