I received $12k in scholarships from my university for having gone to a catholic school so if the elements of my experience don't apply to your child they probably won't have an issue.Starting with general and important Catholic school considerations. They do not teach sex ed, and most of the religion classes are unstructured so their teaching can be highly variable depending on the teacher. Catholic schools are not required to uphold the same academic qualifications of public schools and they hire people who may be knowledgeable in their field but have not studied how to effectively teach and lesson plan.It's a much smaller school and that makes it much easier for teachers to pick favorites and clear when kids are singled out as problems. Rules apply very differently across the board and I don't want to imply intentional racism, but it does not work to combat those issues. I only knew one disabled student who received accommodations and administration publicized her disability. My friends with Autism and Dyslexia were not afforded either IEP's or a path to get them.I don't care to discuss teaching and learning the school publicizes it's test scores and college admittances and all schools run the gamut of highly effective and ineffective teachers.There is inadequate mental health services - their counselor is only on site a couple times a week and when I was sent to the counselor she pointed out all the reasons I should be depressed and made me very scared to seek counseling in the future. When I was in attendance the school was especially hostile to LGBT kids. The Catholic church teaches tolerance rather than acceptance and the school's way of exemplifying this is by not punishing kids for being gay or refusing to let gay couples go to dances, but refusing to step in when kids were bullied for being gay. One person in my class left after 4mo because it was too much. Positives - the senior class has one course based around a service project and learning about how civil rights/ and social action are an important part of civics. I really value that experience and think it helped me become a more empathetic and engaged human. - Pro-vita week is designed to be an anti-abortion week but in practice provided attention to human right's issues (Ex sweatshop & labor issues, right to education) and the need to engage with the political process.

The staff is wonderful! Very caring and willing to work with each student individually. Challenging curriculum that will prepare your child for college and life in general. The tuition is a small price to pay for what you receive in return.
