My Daughter went through bullying. Principal likes to dismiss all the behaviors. The best thing that school has is the teachers.

My son is now in 1st grade. He had Ms. Francis for kindergarten and she was awesome. I hope my younger son gets her when he’s 5 in a couple years. First grade has just started and he has two teachers. Ms Vico and Mrs Steiner. He just started, but he seems to really love them as well. The teachers, principal and counselors all seem to be focused in creating a fun, safe and engaging school environment at Rio Rosales. My son also attended a summer program sponsored by the Boys and Girls club this past summer and he also thoroughly enjoyed that as well. Great stuff and lots of fun for kids with high energy. Such a great way for the kids to get to know each other better and have a safe place to play and have fun. I’m honestly surprised that the test scores aren’t higher than they are at this school, but learning is equal part classroom learning and at home parenting. After watching Ms Francis teach on the computer for the better part of last year due to covid, I can surely attest she’s a phenomenal teacher w/ an amazing attitude and just an all around amazing teacher. She makes learning fun, has amazing patience and great at controlling chaos that come with a roomful of kindergarteners. I feel schools and their leaders make or break a community and Rio Rosales is definitely a shining star and cornerstone piece to the East Village neighborhood. I hope the new High School they are building next to it will promote the same culture and environment for our youth and future leaders. I give the culture, caring, engagement and fun learning environment of Rio Rosales Elementary an A+.

I have all of my three children enrolled at Rio Rosales and they all like the school and their teachers. All the teachers and staff have been great and the principal, Mr. Howatt, is always willing to help the children, very involved.

My son's teacher is fantastic! I think she's definitely a teacher for a reason! Before kindergarten, I spent countless days trying to teach my son how to read and write. However, after my son has started this school, he has started reading items when we are out! He has also started reading entire short stories, and comes home with the cutest class projects! I love how Rio Rosales makes school fun, and allows parents to become involved, not only at home, but inviting us to school for different activities such as lunch on the lawn. Simply getting a chance to come to school on a scheduled day and reading to my son and a few of his friends really makes his and my day.

My son is a Kindergartner at and I could not be happier. I was a bit on the fence when the school year started just because it was such a new school compared to all the other schools in the area, but all of the fears that I was having are completely gone. My son has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and the staff that works with him has gone above and beyond to make sure that he has everything he needs. My son is doing so well at school that I never have a reason to drop in and check on things. Anytime I have asked for a meeting or needed to talk to someone about my son's education and learning plans my requests have been answered and within a matter of days I have an appointment. The resource teacher, occupational therapist, and speech therapist have worked wonders with my son (who I thought I would have to home school because of his learning issues). They are AMAZING!! My son currently has Mrs. Neary as his Kindergarten teacher and she has found ways to get him to participate in class and with other students without making him feel like he wants to shut down and hide. My son also loves the Principal Dr. K and enjoys seeing him everyday even if it is just to say Hi.

This is my child's second year at Rio Rosales and so far we LOVE the school. The district has its downfalls, no arts or music programs which is a big issue for me, but she's getting a quality education with wonderful teachers. The PTA is great. The parent involvement is good, but could be more involved. I try to volunteer as much as possible. So far I have no complaints other than finding a way to provide more arts than just academics.
