I’ve had children in Hawthorne for about 5 years now. I have to say in the beginning I probably would not have written a review, because I didn’t really have no good to say. Hawthorne has made huge progress and an amazing turn around in many aspects. Ever since Ms. McMahon has taken over as principle things at Hawthorne have turned around completely. The care and thought that goes into providing a quality education for these kids has impressed me tremendously. Ms. McMahon cares greatly about the future of our children and it shows in her actions. Since the global pandemic the teachers at Hawthorne have stepped up even more. They are in constant communication with us (parents) and making sure the kids have everything they need to continue their distance learning education. The district gave students who need them laptops and a way to connect and continue a quality education. I couldn’t be more proud of our school district. I believe that current grade is based on old leadership, but after being under the leadership of Ms. McMahon I haven no doubt in my mind that score will rise and be much closer to if not a 10. Thank you Ms. McMahon and all the teachers and staff at Hawthorne. You’ve made a believer out of me. Ms. Porter

Hawthorne has come a very long way since my oldest started kinder there. Now that it’s an IB school it’s so much better.

The school just received accreditation as an IB International school in which an international perspective is taken and cross curricular themes are taught. The teachers are fully invested in implementing the high academic standards of an IB school. Enrichment activities as well as after school activities revolving around sports and dance are offered to the students regularly. A new principal has set a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

My family and I are so happy to out of this school. The office staff is totally incompetent, they are a teir one low performing school, there are many bullies and many kids that dont speak any English and the teachers still speak spanish to them instead of encouraging English. The kids dont care if they learn anything and its very dirty and unkempt..

I would not recommend this school for any child, the administration does not allow parents to walk their children on to campus in the mornings, and children are discplined by sitting in the vice principals office or principals office in a chair and forced to stare at a red dot on the wall. I pulled my children from this school after seeing how the students were treated , and my children were not ones that were "discplined" by the red dot. I feel that the administration is far more focused on their academic score and becoming an IB school that the welfare of the children and actually caring about the children and being compassionate and connecting to the kids. If your child is not a high performer or has any "behavior issues" beware.
