This school is incredibly disorganized. I transferred my children from a different school system to Buchanan this year and I'm amazed -- not in a good way -- at the differences. The office staff and principal are both dismissive of questions, like we should already know the procedures for things like dropping off and picking up children. The teachers I asked didn't know what time school let out! A teacher tried to tell me what I could and couldn't send in a lunch for my child. Every morning this week I have witnessed the cafeteria helpers (I don't know what their official title is) yell at the students about standing in line, getting up, and putting their breakfast trash in the right place. I called to speak to the school counselor to verify the time for a meeting we set and I was treated very rudely by the office staff. I get the idea from my brief interactions with them that they're overworked, underpaid, and ready to take it out on anyone who has the misfortune to stand in front of their counter. The counselor has been pleasant and helpful, but she's only at the school once a week. It's the first week of school and I already regret moving my kids to this district.

Listen to the reviews, don't take them lightly if you care about the education your child is going to receive. I should have listened before moving my child into an Oklahoma City school. This school offers nothing in the form of extra-curricular activities for their children, sports, strings, etc. Unless you count ESL. Never do they have school activities (muffins for moms, turkey BINGO, teacher-kid basketball games). They cater to the Hispanic children and other children's education is put on the back burner. I can't speak for all teachers, but my son's is very discouraging, mean spirited, and says questionable inappropriate things to the kids. She rarely, if ever, verbally rewards for good grades and just seems burnt out. We will be changing schools asap. My child is very unhappy at this school.

This school is on it's way up!!! MAPS for kids has made vast improvements for Buchanan's. One of the biggest problems with this school in the past was that it was outdated and overcrowded. MAPS renovated this school and totally brought it up to date. It's now a modern, bright, cheery place. They were able to add several new classrooms (which allowed 6th grade to be brought back to the school), a new cafeteria, new playground equipment, new teacher's lounge (where they can work on lesson plans) and many more wonderful things. I was really sad to see there were some negative comments about this school on this site, but I noticed they were made 3 years ago, which was before the MAPS improvements...which I guess explains some of the frustration expressed. I was glad to learn Buchanan's established a Stop Bullying Program to help ensure our kids stay safe. I was also proud that Buchanan's also excelled in the Read to Achieve Program and loved that it garnered the attention of the Thunder team and they even donated books to the school. Keep up the good work Buchanan's...you're making a big difference!

The bond issue and resulting improvements made to this school have really helped! Marked improvement overall; much happier with it than in years past.

I am a parent of two children who attend Buchanan and I'm sorry to say that I am not happy. I have had issues with a couple of the teachers that I just cant seem to get around. I have had conferences with them about my children. It seems as though because there are so many students in a class that's it's just to much. My children have gone through so many teachers in one year! That it really makes me stop and think ok there's something really wrong with this picture. I am currently in the process of doing whatever it takes to remove my children from this school.
