This is a relatively new school and there has been quite a bit of turnover since opening in 2010. The atmosphere is welcoming and safe to all students and the community. Their teachers are very caring and fieldtrips are rare, but getting better depending on funding and fundraising. I think this place is a hidden treasure and can only get better.

Hi i dont usually do ratings but its really something important if it may help others from making a mistake. Mesa verde elementary in riverbank is terrible from office staff to school productivity. I placed my child in the school and they did a hearing test with out my knowledge when i confronted the staff they didn't know what to do they called the nurse i explained that i would have liked to be aware when they will be doing something like this she said really know one else had a problem and do you really expect us to send a note to each student we have alot of students. I said well then you can send me a note. Needless to say to my surprise they went ahead and tested him again! Im disgusted by the lack of respect this school has for parents. Once you leave your child at the school they feel like they can do what they want with them. Please do yourself and your child a favor and try a different school. I am now homeschooling since were i live i have no option except private schools. Hope this helps.

Large class sizes, splitting classes to give new teachers better students, uncommunicative teachers and staff (refusal to call home when my child had an accident at school... They made my child sit in the office in wet pants all day!!) no bully program in place... Several reasons why my child is no longer in this school and enrolled in a bay area school.

My son just finished 1st grade and my youngest is about to start k there so far so good. We have had no problems with any of the staff and from a previous reveiw (they answer the phones in english) and for the other bad review made when the dress code says no spaghetti straps its pretty safe to assume no tank top

My child attended K and 1st at this school. While I was satisfied with the teachers and their level of involvement with my child despite the gigantic class sizes. I am dissatisfied with the rest of the staff, however. When I approached them about my child being bullied, they blew it off- saying they couldn't do anything about it unless my child knew the names and days s/he was bullied. They made her wear a sweater on a hot day due to having a sleeveless shirt on (the rules state no SPAGHETTI straps, not no sleeveless shirts). They just don't have it together, unfortunately. My child is VERY smart, and received "advanced beyond grade level standards" marks, but wasn't recognized by anyone but her teacher for this. Just seems they don't care to move the smart kids ahead.

Get an interdistrict transfer out of this school. We were forced to enroll our son here because we lived on the wrong side of the street! We were sent home with the form. We speak English so the side of the English form was blank. The other side was Spanish, which is no big deal. What WAS a problem and was the first red flag. It was completely filled out. We had in our hands the personal information of a little girl. Name, age, birthdate, address, phone, contacts. BAD BAD BAD!!! When we took the form back and complained the lady at the desk looked at it and tossed it in the wastebasket. Not a shred pike or an attempt ti destroy it. Not a horrified expression, just an "Eh". Which tells me confidentiality is not a priority. Thirdly when we went to the "get to know you" meeting, in the large auditorium they moved the 20 English speakers to a tiny classroom whike the 200+ remained in the auditorium. Everytime we callef the office the person answering the phone had to get someone that spoke English. Do what you can to enroll your child in the Sylvan Union School District. That's what we did.

I am so grateful we chose to reside in the Riverbank Unified School District! My children attended grades K-12 among teachers who cared and were concerned for their futures. They were well prepared for higher learning and landed good paying jobs and careers. They have fond memories of both staff and programs. A recent visit with many teachers and staff members in the school district has convinced me they continue to aspire to excellence in their professions. Love of education begins at home. My children were instructed to comply with school rules, follow teacher's directions, participate with good attitudes and get along with others. They were expected to always do their best. Thanks to all who work (or, ever did work) in the RUSD for your efforts, Ms. K. A. May

This is The WORST school I have ever seen. My child attends this school and I have had several meetings with the principal about his teacher being verbally abusive!! she does nothing!! she defends the teacher and says my child needs counseling. My child is and has always been a good student with good grades. In the start of the school year I addressed my concerns about his teacher belittling my child and other students and got nothing!! I have had several meeting with the teacher and principal and nothing!! Last week the teacher crossed the line and got in my child's face yelling at him till she was red in the face and my child felt her breath on him. Went to the principal and nothing!! Everything my child and I are going thur is beyond my mind. I am so unset and my child is just in tears over this school!! There is teachers that do care but most of the staff there looks at the children as just a number. No school spirit Nothing!! Please I am warning do your research before sending your children to this school!!!!!!!!

I am very disappointed in just about everything at Mesa. The school has NO communication with parents. Several times I have tryed to contact the teacher in my sons class. only to recieve a return email... I offer to volenteer in the class room 3 times this year and I am told "We are fine and there is no need for you to come in" There are no phone calls home to me when my son is recieving an award at the monthy award ceremony! Also never ever has had a fieldtrip or even tried to participate in on campus reading programs readly availible to all area schools. Not to mention the monthly parent coffee ( what a joke!) they had to bring in a translater just for me! and then had many side discussions without translating? I thought this might just be a 1 time thing so I went again sevel months later...same thing..sorry I think that is rude. I have to say they have a very nice office staff. this school over all is a big thumbs down! booooooooo :(

This school has some wonderful teachers. It also has some teachers that should have retired many years ago. (Not because of their age, because of their attitude.) They are impatient and do not seem to have any tolerance for children. The reason behind this is that there is no accountability by the Principal. She lets the teachers behave in whatever manner they want to. She does not get involved. The teachers that are fantastic, are fantastic because they are teachers that truly care and love what they are doing, not because they are held accountable for it.
