I very much enjoyed going to Perry Hall High. I had many amazing teachers who genuinely wanted to help us kids and set us up for a good future. The atmosphere at PH was fun. There were a whole lot of kids, but we didn’t mind. It made for interesting classes and a lot of friends. I would want my future children to go here. There’s a lot of extracurricular activities and classes to help with kids specialties and interests. The child care classes are very in depth and taught me a lot.

I have two kids in this school right now. My son, who is a senior has seen mixed results. Teachers are good but overwhelmed with over crowded classrooms. So, kids get lost in the sauce if they are shy or not really vocal about what they need. Add in the well known issue of kids getting passing marks so no one fails. Not good. On the other hand, my daughter is special needs. Amazing staff, excellent care and concern for her and her future. Some of the extra services have been reduced due to budget cuts and that's a shame. The school was closed in the pandemic. There should be extra money to help all these kids, regular classes and specials. When my son started school here it was a 6/10 on G.S. Now, in less than four years it's a 3/10. That is shameful.

School is extremely overcrowded. Students run the school. Administration and SRO’s have no control. Unsafe environment. They need to put metal detectors in the building. Establish better rapport between educators, students, administrators, and SRO. My child has been harassed and physically attacked. Poor communication with the school.

Perry Hall High is tricky. 20 years ago, even 10 years ago, it was perfectly fine, so there is still the lingering impression among the 40+ age crowd that haven't been inside the building in a while that it's "completely fine". And, in some ways, it is. It's easy to graduate--just come and they will pass you through, teachers are under pressure and don't have time to worry as long as a kid is doing the minimum. It's also not that socially or academically competitive, in part because families with money increasingly move before HS or send kids to MIAA or magnet schools. So a kid isn't going to feel too much pressure. Combine this with the general trend of public schools deemphasizing higher-end skills and spending more time on "social emotional" feel good issues, going to Perry Hall is actually pretty "chill" and effortless.On the flip side, Perry Hall lacks the most important piece of infrastructure any school can have, which is the consistent and fierce support of families who care and have resources. Those families have mostly opted out of PHHS, which means the "top" classes are basically what would be an average class at a higher-achieving school. The ability to develop character, confidence, and a sense of purpose are lacking because the student body is not cohesive. Expectations are pretty low and emphasis is on keeping the graduation rate up, so there isn't a lot of emphasis on homework or enforcing rules. There are lots of situations where families move from PHHS zone when kids are in middle school. If you drive just 15 minutes north/northwest, you get higher rated and more cohesive public schools that have good sports programs other than just boy's basketball (which PHHS is very good at!)

Great Schools should be ashamed of their rating criteria. It’s very misleading. PHHS is perfectly fine! Teachers and staff are amazing! Both of my daughters graduated and were accepted to their collages of choice. Many opportunities, lots of clubs and sports. Very active PTA. Was it perfect no, were there a handful of troublemakers of course, do you get out what you put in? Absolutely!Do no judge Perry Hall by the ridiculous Great Schools rating system.

Excellent. Oldest son had special needs that were met wonderfully. He graduated on time.

Good teachers and adults. TOO MANY NON GRADUATES THAT WANDER THE HALLS AND CLASSES FULL OF THEM AS WELL. (wondering when they will graduate to be honest) . Anyways.. really nice clubs like im in Asian pop music and its amazing. Overall good school besides stupid , ignorant, will not graduate, etc. kinds of students (not all are luckily).

Perry Hall High School is a wonderful public school in a very nice district. It offers many acadmic programs, from standard classes to advanced placement classes. The teachers are well educated and very helpful. It's a highly decorated school and is able to provide attention to all students, despite its size.

There is such a great support from teachers, students parents and the community around them. Its a old school feel.. Thanks God for that.

My diploma-bound child has special needs and is excelling beyond our dreams at PHHS. The current administration and the staff are knowledgeable, caring, approachable, and work hard to integrate children into the school community from athletics to academics. Special educators communicate with parents and are accessible to students. Plus, they know the children well. The one time I hit an obstacle, the administrator for special education services helped me get what was needed for my child. Anyone who says that a child cannot get services has obviously not asked - or they are asking for something that is not in the best interest of the child in my opinion. I also have an older child who has graduated and is doing very well in college due to the excellent preparation gained at the school. I would compare the education given to my children with any private school. I highly recommend the school.
