I am a Chiddix student and love it. The teachers are all kind and nice. They're really helpful when I don't understand what's being taught. I really recommend Chiddix. It's a great school.

I am consistently disappointed with the school's ability to perform a safe learning environment and their level of communication with parents. We have had 2 different incidents in which our child was physically bullied, including another student pulling down pants in front of multiple other students. This happened at the beginning of the school day and the administrators were involved and notified immediately. But were the parents informed at any point? - NO! Was the student provided the option to call their parents ? - NO! This is completely unacceptable. Earlier in the year, the same 6th grade student was riding home on the bus and multiple 7th / 8th graders harassed him and another 6th grader. Taking their personal belongings, pulling their hair, dumping their drinks all over both of them, even slapping in their face. We reached out and reported this to the principal directly via email since the no one was answering the school phones by the time the student got home from the bus ride. We had to reach out again 4 days later because Principal Jim Allen did not even care to respond to our email! Again, this is completely unacceptable. It shows a chronic problem and a lack of meaningful action and communication on their part. I went to Chiddix when I was a child - 24 years ago. I can see things have definitely gone down hill!

Chiddix is a quality school in Unit 5 district with a very heavy majority of seasoned teachers, making it a great institution for kids and learning. Those parents complaining about "gifted" programs are either against district policy (not this specific school), or simply the standard parent who considers their medium to high average kid "gifted" and want a school to cater to them more to drive better grades/habits. Complaining about a district policy is not a strike against a specific school, but apparently the parents aren't "gifted" either, and don't understand this. Chiddix supports smart kids just as well as any school in the district.

I had to respond to the negative comments about the lack of gifted programs, as I have found it to be entirely untrue. We've been at the school a short time, and I have already heard from a couple teachers, calling me on their weekends about what their plan is for my child to keep her challenged and engaged in the classroom. The math program for accelerated learners, in particular, is exceptional. I was so skeptical about sending my student to this school based on these reviews, but they simply aren't true. While there is no specific gifted program, teachers are addressing those special needs on an individual basis in the classroom, which to me is far better than pulling kids away from their peers into a "gifted program".

Very disappointed in the level of commitment and follow through from specific teachers, and zero assistance from principal to implement necessary change. Teachers of notoriously tough subjects should strive to create a more seamless transition from 5th to 6th grade, not make it harder than it already is. Overall huge let down for our first year here and unfortunately one bad teacher spoils the bunch for me. Maybe 7th grade will be better.

DO NOT send your gifted kids to this school or any other Unit 5 middle schools because they don't have ANY type of special programs or higher standard learning classes AT ALL.

If your kids are gifted don't send them here as they spend no money on gifted programs. Smart kids are generally undervalued here because it is clearly not a priority.
