My experience has been nothing but wonderful transitioning into Collegiate. The staff are kind and always open when I have questions asked about what is going on inside the classroom and hallways. Lots of fun and engaging community events for parents to meet others that may be new to the area.

As an Alumni who attended all 12 years and a parent of two kids who have attended since kindergarten (11 and 9 years), we use to love and be heavily involved with this school, however sadly the school has lost its way in the past five years or so and the administration at the upper school is incompetent to say the least. If you go there don't ever dare to question or advocate for your child or you'll be canceled, which is funny since we were asked to advocate on behalf of the school year end and year out. They will tell you what you want to hear, but dig deep in your research, ask around, buyer beware. They are no longer the Mighty Oaks. Oh, and they have the audacity to charge Norfolk Academy tuition levels for far fewer academic opportunities, support, and extracurricular activities for your children. We are the McCoy's and hopefully I just saved you some money.

I attend the school a few years ago. and I can promise you not much is changed. Worst experience of my life. Do not ever send your child here unless you want them to get bullied, harassed, and or assaulted. administration is awful to you unless if you have money.

This school has taken a complete nosedive in the last five years. There was always a strong sense that if you not an alumnus, child of of faculty/admin., and/or a donor, you are an outsider and thus your child is treated unfairly - Despite that you pay save as or more than those other people. (Because they receive a price break for having multiple students or being a teacher there’.) The educational quality is very poor. We have to constantly follow up, be vigilant about and argue with administrators over the failing state of affairs. There is no parity with sports- they recruit AAU basketball players and discriminate against actual paying students. All focus is exclusively on basketball and soccer to the exclusion of all other sports and activities. Uniforms that are old, nasty and used for everything else, except the two chosen sports. Food is abysmally nasty. Again, many complaints but they refuse to take ownership and fix it. Rampant vaping and bullying to the extreme. Curriculum and pure extremist CRT agenda was funded secretly and has caused such a toxic environment where the students are largely miserable, little to no value and meanwhile they attempt to indoctrinate your child. The leadership stubbornly refuses to follow the law or listen to parents. My advice: Keep looking as there are several other private schools that are a better investment where your student will receive an actual education and feel empowered to be successful.

I’ll keep this brief, three reasons you should not send your child to Norfolk Collegiate:1. The children of the faculty will bully your child without consequence 2. The “9:1” student teacher ratio is misleading. Kindergarten is actually 16:1…you can get that kind of ratio at the public school across the street. For free. 3. In one week’s time you will receive a letter from the head of school stating tuition is increasing +10%, a reenrollment contract and an invitation to participate in their “day of giving” (as if the $20k you pay a year isn’t enough…well it’s not when 45% of the school are children of the faculty)

Excuse me, the other review put me as a staff when in fact I am a parent. I am a mother of 4 youngsters, the two oldest were in NC. My experience at NOCO was excellent, I cannot complain from the administration to the janitor, they make you feel like family, the warmth and helpfulness of NC is like no other. Before accepting NC we went to different private schools, couple of the schools made us feel not well received. My children shadowed the ones we were interested in, including NC in the other schools. My children could notice the division among the students, there was no camaraderie among the students, only competition among themselves. until we arrived at NOCO the very friendly and helpful students a unique companionship, the excellent and helpful teachers, the wonderful employees. My oldest son was from 9 to 12 in those 4 years my son who was an introverted boy who did not dare to stand in front of the classroom to give a report because he got nervous to the point that he could not even speak, among his classmates and teachers They helped break his fears by giving him support. my son managed to get out of fear of him and was part of plays at school, he participated in various sports now he is a person who has no limits to achieve his future new goals. Thank you NORFOLK COLLEGIATE you will always be in our hearts.

We are very happy with the middle school curriculum, teachers and general environment for our child. The faculty seem to be genuinely concerned about the kids learning the material, rather than just regurgitating back to them on a test which so many schools do. Their assignments are often project based and not just text book questions and answers. Their teachers develop well planned units around the concepts they need to teach and make the material engaging to the students through the creative ways they ask the student to demonstrate what they have learned from the material or novel read. When my child has been ill, there are open lines of communication and realistic deadlines for work that was missed during their absence. The facilities and grounds are well kept and very clean in general, but with covid they are even better according to my child. We have no experienced any bullying and if you have a concern for your child, the staff is QUICK to respond.

Not a good school for black children. They are not culturally aware, and as a result, the inclusion lacks here. I removed my child from this school.

This school is absolutely terrible. The staff at Norfolk Collegiate is highly ineffective and tend to go after kids for the wrong reasons when they should be dealing with important things such as bullying. There are a few good teachers but I can only think of about 3. The other teachers just teach stuff that won’t help us later on and have insanely strict rules. A lot of students a stuck up and spoiled and have obviously have never been told no before. Th final thing is the head staff tend to kiss up on the students and the students’ parents who donate the most to this crappy school and the kids and kids’ parents who don’t arent treated as well. Also the school spends a lot of their money that they get on stupid things when they should be spending on more important things. Overall this school will be happy to take your tuition money but won’t give you the safe and strong acedemic environment your child deserves.

This school has a hefty price tag and definitely not worth the money. It has totally turned into a focus on intersectional politically correct indoctrination. The grades and colleges attended by graduates reflect the poor results. Two students were asked to leave due to drugs this year. The assemblies have been turned over to the various social justice causes and any student who is slightly conservative will be bullied by students and a few teachers. The teachers are, for the most part, wonderful but they are slowly being dominated by the champions of social justice as they are turning this school into a re-education camp. The leadership needs to realize parents send their children to this school for education, not sports and indoctrination.

I really hate this school. I was bullied by another student earlier in the year, but that was never dealt with. I have also had a ton of bad experiences with a teacher, who has sent me out of class for things like reading, ‘aggressivly diagraming’(this is not a joke), and putting away LEGOs disrespectfully. In addition, 2 students that I know of have been physically harmed by teachers, and some students have dealt with racism. There was also a drug dealer who was expelled and was not mentioned to anybody, even those who had classes with him. And then there are the classes themselves. There is very little focus put on academics, and a lot put on athletics. Just to say- this is all at the middle school. I have never been a student in the upper school, and the lower school was great. However, this school crashes in middle school.

I will never step foot in this school again. The students are rude and overconfident, but are not very strong academically. College admissions are terrible.

We had a fabulous experience. Our oldest went to a top 50 college in the ACC on a 75% scholarship. Our youngest was diagnosed 3 different times with learning disabilities. With Norfolk Collegiate great Learning Resource Center she was able to overcome the disabilities. She went to George Mason University and graduate with a 3.2 GPA and in just 4 years.

I switched my son from one private school to another. Because of that people often ask me why and what I like about the school. My response is not just that I believe my child is getting a premier education, but in addition, I have never seen a private school make diversity and community a top priority. Those two elements are prevalent and make this environment one of the healthiest places I've seen in a long time for a student to thrive in.

We hav been at NCS for two years. Great kids. Great teachers. Great administrators. Great academics. What's not to love?
