My kids all have a great time learning at the school. I love the teachers at the school, their peers and the fellow parents. The learning environment is well-structured, the teachers are very competent and passionate about their teachings, and the students are eager learners since their parents are very involved in their education and want them to be achievers. Most of the teachers are beyond amazing. I admire that they really take pride in their teaching and know the students well. When I met their teachers, I could tell that they know my kids well. They are so patient with their shortcomings. My kids qualified for G &T programs but we chose to put them in Transfiguration because I have heard so many good things about the school. I am so glad that I put them there. Not only they are thriving academically but also they are learning to be kind and emphatic!

This is my son’s first time in school and he is currently in the early childhood campus in the DOE 3K program. He loves the school and adores all the staff. We are so grateful that our teachers, Ms.Wendy, Ms. Jackie, Ms. K, and Ms.Lau are so nurturing and attentive to every child. All the staff in the school care for all the children. As always with small kids, there were many details we wanted to communicate to the teacher. I was each time surprised by how the teachers found time to carefully respond to every message. The teachers took great care and loved organizing the classroom activity areas. The emphasis in this school year was on making friends, teamwork, and communication. We are loving our experience here at Transfiguration and it has been wonderful.

Our daughter is in first grade and our son is in the early childhood campus,Overall our experience at Transfiguration has been great. The curriculum for our first grader has challenged her but has not been too challenging where she feels discouraged to learn. We also find the teachers willing, available, and attentive. The small class size is great, and it ensures that our children get the proper attention for their academics. Witnessing our first grader improve so quickly in her reading skills from the start of kindergarten has also been amazing. Our son, at the early childhood campus has also been enjoying his 3K experience. His 3K class is the right balance of play and learning. There are also great after school electives offered for younger and older kids. As parents, it’s nice to be in a community with other active parents. There are holiday parties, class parties, and events so parents become familiar with each other and our children’s classmates.Transfiguration school is a catholic school that is welcoming of families who do not follow the religion. It’s a nonprofit school that gets some funding from the city- so compared to other private schools it’s a good value for the small class size and the great academics! It’s also just become a National Blue Ribbon School!

My 2.5 year old just finished the 6 weeks summer program and will be moving on to pre K. Her growth during this program has been astounding. She is speaking and describing the world around her in full sentences( she started the program with part sentences). She loves the tiny scientist classes and she is potty trained at the school! It’s very obvious she loves the teachers and everyone at the school. We are so looking forward to going back in September

This school has been a miracle for my 2 kids. They are exactly what we have been looking when it comes to discipline and work load for them. The school teaches them to push themselves and do their best. They also teach them the foundation of the core values of a human being. Academics is big focus in this school. It’s located in the heart of Chinatown where the expectations are high. With high expectations at this early on, the graduating classes acceptance rate are usually more than 50% to specialized high school. If your child thrives in this environment, then this is the school for you. I find that all kids are capable of doing exceptional but it’s a matter of whether they want to strive to do better or not.

During my time at this school, I have experienced many things varying from great to considerably horrible. Throughout my fourth grade to eight grade experience in this school, I've met some great people and engaged in many school-related things. One of the great things about this school are the students and afterschool program. One of the many bad things about this school are some of the extremely strict, stress-inducing, and lazy teachers, unnecesary homework, school lunch, and punishments given by the teachers. In my eighth grade experience, some teachers do not give the students a proper learning experience, as they are always in an angry mood. The students in grades seven to eight are often given recess detetion for making a simple mistake. For example, the students may be given a 45 minutes recess detention for forgetting to sign a test, doing the homework wrong, or enganging in a conversation at the wrong time. In my opinion, this does not create a healthy learning experience for the students, as they are constantly worried about getting in trouble for doing something wrong related to the lesson. The teachers are extremely unsympathetic to the students who are always stressed and worried about doing something wrong because of the harsh punishments given by the teachers. Furthermore, many teachers in this school are bias towards the students. For example, a student may recieve better treatment than another student just because the teacher enjoys that particular student more. The school generally does not care about the student's emotions and capabilities. I would not suggest for your child to attend this school as the experience I has was horrible and unforgettable. The amount of stress and worrying I have done just because of this school was not worth it.

We love Transfiguration and very happy to be part of the community. The academics are high caliber and the community is warm and welcoming. We have two kids in the school, early childhood and elementary. The kids are thriving, learning a ton, and look forward to school every day. Thank you Transfiguration for all that you do!

Can’t express how thankful I am my boys are enrolled in this school especially during Covid. They made such and easy transition for our in person kids along with the optional choice of virtual learning. As much as schools are not the same anymore but they are definitely up to speed with their teachings and yearly curriculum. As a parent who worries about kids falling behind especially during the school year I must say they are pretty much on point with everything. The teachers are very responsive to emails and messages even after school hours. The teachers here are passionate about educating our kids. To them it’s not just another pay check. They honestly and really want to make sure each child are learning and understanding everything. I get daily and weekly updates of the kids status in class. It’s a nice community with great faculty, staff and parents that are willing to help one another. Love this school.

We transferred to this school a little more than a year ago and we have been really happy with the school. My son looks forward to school daily and is very engaged at school. We came from a Public school and we really see the difference in the teaching. The teachers are definitely more engaging and nurturing. I see my son thriving in this school and my only regret is not sending him to this school earlier.

Great School in terms of academic. near to 50% students from 8th Grade are in Special High in 2020 that doesn't count those accepted by private high schools.

School seems to be losing the focus on academics and specialized high schools. Parents complain a lot amongst themselves but no one speaks up. School needs to remember that this is NYC and there are plenty of schools to chose from. We are looking for a new school and hope not return in September. Early Childhood program excellent but after that no good.

This rating applied to the pre-K program, as I have no knowledge of the other campus. The principal is the best educator I have ever know, and I come from a family of educators. She knows every student by name, and is very approachable. When we had a problem, the principal personally looked into it to help fix it. She balance of strictness and compassion. The teachers follow the principals lead in striking an excellent balance between discipline and compassion. They are dedicated and generous people who genuinely love their work. Finally, the pre-K is excellent at developing the sense of community.

As a parent, you'll find a lot of things to like about this school. The teachers are dedicated and the quality of the academic education is high. You'll probably question that balance between work and play and you won't necessarily welcome the stress of trying to get 4 and 5 year old children to do an hour of homework every night (particularly after a 9 hour day at school.) Do kids flourish under these conditions? The real problem with this school will become apparent when you have an issue which merits being raised with the principal in charge of pre-K. Parents leave her office confused and upset and feel they don't have a voice (although they will be told that they do - "my door is always open" is a typical phrase). If you find yourself in that situation, the answer is simple: stop responding to the endless fundraising requests that the school sends you. If enough people do this, then you will certainly have a voice. When the principal starts to treat parents and teachers with the respect that they deserve, then this school will really start to shine.

teachers can be very kind, but the principles can be really harsh and hurt the children and make them cry! and it's a disrespect. child abuse.

This school is a gem. The principal in the early childhood campus makes every child feel welcomed and special. She greets and addresses each child in the morning by their names. The elementary school is a stricter environment where children learn to be responsible and respectful. The principal in the elementary school is also very approachable. There are these parents that want to run the school because they feel that they are paying and have the right. My child is heading to second grade. His kindergarten and 1st grade teachers have prepared him well for second grade. Love this school!
