Jefferson Elementary school is actually a very welcoming and pleasant place where all children are challenged at their own level. The majority of the children come from Latino families and are bilingual. Too much emphasis is put on state test scores to make this school look like a ineffective building. State test scores cannot measure students' daily progress and their emotional and social development. Many children opt out and do not even take the state tests. The school offers one period a day where children are grouped by ability and individual needs are met. The teachers and the administration know the children well. If you have concerns or questions about the school, call for a tour and visit some classrooms. First hand, current experience will give anyone a better understanding of the school and the community.
