Really disappointed with the school's communication and how they handle bullying. My child was having issues with being bullied and the only reason why I was notified was because it had reached a boiling point and my child finally got mad and retaliated back against their bully. That was when they finally decided to tell me this was an ongoing issue and that student had been constantly harassing my child. I really want to like this school, but the lack of communication that the staff has with parents when it comes to bullying issues is concerning. They seem to only reach out only when the issue has erupted into something worse, which feels really unsafe for the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the children there. After speaking with other parents, I have found out that several of them are also having issues with their children being bullied by other students and staff doing absolutely nothing to discipline them. This has resulted in many parents removing their students from the school entirely. Despite constant complaints and frustrations, it seems that the staff has decided to just completely ignore the concerns of the parents here.

My first time having a child in T-K and seeing how the teacher would yell at the children as all of us parents were standing there. She really expects children that are 4-5 age range to listen obediently but instead yells at them with an attitude. As a teacher of younger children, she should be more patient and gentle. This teacher not only showed temperment towards the children with parents present, but also lacks in communication to parents regarding events in the classroom. She expects that the child will remember to remind the parent rather than writing it onto a teacher reminder or sending an email or simply printing out a paper for the child to take home. The terrible communication had other parents also unaware of the days events including school projects. Meanwhile my other child that has been there since k-3 and my t-k student has both been victims to bullies. I would be the one to have to bring it up to the teacher and the teachers would automatically know the situation without me needing to go into further detail. But why is it that if my child is being bullied and the staff is aware, I'm not automatically contacted. The students threw my child's backpack into the road and my child could have gotten hurt trying to retrieve it. A staff was well aware of this event and i was not contacted whatsoever for it. There has been both physical and verbal assaults towards my children for being minorities and the school did nothing to discipline the bullies, let alone even tell me about the bullying incidents. My children would come home crying and having to explain to me what's wrong and after contacting the school, they were of no help! The lack in communication between teachers and parents, the lack in making my child feel safe In school, the lack of teaching! I feel that the school is teaching at a slow pace and students aren't willing to engage in working on the same lessons for the entire month.

Principal here does not take bullying issues seriously and mostly delegates her staff to do handle these issues.Kindness challenge and disability awareness month campaigns in this school are just campaigns for show. Principal does not model these campaigns genuinely and does not expect all her teachers to promote or model them either with our experience. Almost all staff we experienced in this school were awesome. We were not lucky this school year. My son with special needs was bullied recently. Teacher tolerated kids laughing mocking my son in classroom for many months to the point of escalation kids harrassing my son during lunch taking his food to make him cry just for laughs. I have also caught this teacher with my own eyes actually mocking my son in the past. Teacher also has made inappropriate comments in past discriminating my son with his disability. It was unbelievable as if this teacher never had a special needs student. Emotional well being of students was not important to this teacher obviously. Other parents from this class have actually also complained of bullying and teacher was not addressing it. Sweeping under the rug. My son felt unsafe that he had to move to another classroom with a different teacher and now wants to leave school. He has many friends here and is willing to go to a new school. He does not trust the school's leader anymore. When I asked help from principal, she actually justified the bullying with words "Kids just don't understand". These were not preschoolers, they were 9 yr olds! Justified teacher "teacher is just an easy going guy maybe he feels he does not need to do anything" when I brought up concern he was tolerating laughing mocking in class. With our experience principal and teacher showed no genuine care for my son's situation or no accountability. My son's mental health has significantly been affected due to trauma of bullying. Teacher or principal not once showed apology even slightly to my son or me for the mistreatments. Kids that bullied my son never were directed to apologize to my son. Just basic human respect was not being shown to my son and it was tolerated unfortunately.Hopefully in the coming future, principal will change for the better and actually do her job to prioritize student safety with regards to bullying. Filed complaints to school district. Principal's tolerance speaks volumes why the bullying can escalate and continue in this school. A true good leader will model a good example. Not her!

Attended this school for 2 years after Covid, before pulling from school altogether and homeschooling. First year after Covid the focus of the classroom was playing video games and board games. Cool they learned how to play chess and Minecraft. There was no other evidence of learning and test scores that year were drastically lower than the previous years. Next grade was better definitely saw evidence of learning taking place. When asked what we could do to help our child improve, we were given “I am not worried about them. They are fine”. To us that stood out as a huge issue, because our child is “good” and respectful in class and does well on assignments. They were not getting the same attention as other students. When the focus is on those who are loud/ disrespectful and those that are quick to raise their hands “star students”. The middle of the road kids need attention and encouragement too, and we could see our child was not putting forth the same effort in school as they did pre-Covid as a result. Whether a failing of the teachers or the school environment this was setting our child down a path we were not willing to accept for them. We chose to pull them from public school and it has been the best decision ever. They are back to loving learning and scoring in the top % of students their grade level.

Two children went through the school. Excellent school and teachers. The principal has been weak the last few years dealing with disciplinary issues which results in teachers having to do her job.

Both kids attended Monte Vista. One has moved on to Middle School and the other is still there. Excellent teachers and staff. The PTA is also very involved and puts on lots of events.

We have 4 children attending Monte Vista right now and we have had teachers from pre-k all the way up to 5th grade. We have yet to have a bad teacher. The only downside is that this school doesn't offer any music programs. But, it is a bigger school with most of the kids within walking distance from the school so as our kids walk through the neighborhood they see children that they know from school all over the place. This school is located in quiet neighborhood in Murrieta California which is a quiet city full of lots of young families. It is a great place to live and is very safe.

Both of my children attended Monte Vista and I can't say enough about this school, or the teachers! All the teachers and staff are very kind and caring and with both my children moving on, I will be quite sad to not see all their happy smiling faces every morning and afternoon.

It's a great school! I have two boys that went to Monte Vista, one just promoted. They both had Ms. Smith for 5th grade, she is great, my boys really like her! I have a daughter starting there this year and we are both looking forward to the upcoming year! :)

I love the school. I actually went to this school when I was a child and loved it back then as well. The teachers and staff have always listened and cared about concerns and I think they do an outstanding job. There have been some changes since the mergers of the schools that have closed down last year so their plates are full dealing with the transition but I think they are handling it well. I saw a few comments about them being rude and I would have to say that the only time I have seen them be the slightest bit dismissive is when a parent is being over the top disrespectful, rude and belligerent to them. I am very close with the parents there and those of us that communicate with the teachers and staff and care about our children will all tell you what a great job they are doing.

I agree with the other poster who said the ladies in the office are rude. I totally agree. I have three kids, two of them go to Monte Vista. We loved Mrs. Rockhold for kindergarten and we loved Mrs. Kemble for 3rd grade. My son had Mr. Savage for second grade and while I wasn't crazy about him, my son really liked him a lot and to me that is what matters. The principle and vice principle are also really involved in things and also are quick to take care of issues.

As a parent I need to be 100% sure that my kids are in good hands when in school and being in Monte Vista, I can say that their teachers are wonderful and excellent. My kids both attended the class of Mrs. Crutcher and they both loved her some much. She'll update you on your child's development and she knows how to challenge her students on their studies. Miss Ritchie and Mrs. Anderson are both excellent teachers of Monte Vista too. Well, all of the teachers are so involved and has these good rapport with the parents. Praises to the Assistant Principal Mr. Ortiz but heard that he won't be the Assistant this coming 2012-2013 school year.

My daughter attends kindergarten at Monte Vista Ms. Pratt class. She is the best teacher I have ever meet. She keeps the parents in form. But the most important she RESPECTS the children in her class room. Other teacher at Monte Vista should learn from her. If they yell at the students all the time and they don't know how to manage there personal life, then they should be a teacher. An as for the principal he need to remember that he is there to protect the students.

My daughter attended kindergarten at Monte Vista and my son was there for second and third. They both loved their teachers, as did I. They were friendly, easy to talk to and approachable and were willing to help with whatever problems might arise. The principal and office staff are very friendly. Unfortunately our family had to move. My kids miss the school very much and still talk about it often. Great school!

Our child has just started the 2011/2012 year, so far we are pleased with her teacher and the school. Hoping this continues throughout the years.

I started my son at this school late in his 3rd grade year. I can say that his teacher were warm and very involved. In this area I could not ask for more yet there is one down side I have seen with this school. I feel the administration...mainly and blonde lady and a redhead lady that work in the office, are very rude. ( sorry I really don't know there names, the blonde may be Michelle?) I have seen the redhead lady scream at the kids during dismissal duty. That is my only complaint many other parents have agreed that that is a down side yet the teachers are fantastic.
