We love this school. Our child attended TK here and we saw a lot of improvement in him in just one year.

This school is nearly 2 years old , nice campus . The area of Mountain House is also beautiful. Teachers are hit and miss . If you have a child who struggles or has any type of learning disability or behavioral disorder I do NOT recommend this school as they are ill equipped to handle children who fall into this category . In fact In my opinion children with disabilities are often targeted by staff and harassed by staff . The staff and area in general have that small town effect , meaning nothing is confidential or taken care of professionally . You must keep in mind this town is small and the schools are staffed by 80% locals . Your teacher may very well be your neighbor , it's not a good thing . I feel this school has a lot of room for improvement and will be on track to be great say 5 years from now . There is also a HUGE turnover in staff, the staff is constantly changing . Teachers seem miserable as well in fact, they spent all 2015 threatening to strike when fighting with the Lammersville School District . The pay at the time was lower than all surrounding cities . I speak as not only an employee , but a parent and volunteer . The principle seems to do nothing , his Asst. Principle is great and does pretty much everything . If your children excel in school I also do not recommend this school , as Altamont Elementary offers no challenges for students who need them .

I volunteer at the school frequently. While there are always issues that can come up, you'll find issues with things like bad teachers to be fleeting as the parents won't have it. The Principal is a little out of touch with things personally, but he has always had the best intentions and there has been marked improvement year over year for sure. People from the other elementary schools send there kids to Altamont because of how good it truly is. While I give it 5 stars, there is always need for improvement, but they are and have been on the ball in this category. Also, I've learned to never trust 1 star reviews. They obviously have issues and post their irrational responses instead of taking the time to see what actually works along with things that don't. Also, there has never been 1 1/2 hours worth of homework unless your child is sitting their goofing off or they otherwise have a difficult time learning. Renee Lenart who has taken over for Mr. T., the resource teacher is available for the latter, but the parent must make the effort to contact them through the front office. As for homework you get 30 minutes each day of reading, and about 30 minutes each day for other homework. That has been the M.O. all the way through 4th grade regardless of the teacher. Each child learns at their own pace, these teachers understand this well and have metrics in place to give more time to those who are struggling. Rocket Math for example allows them to practice day in and day out until they master and move on. They are on the ball and I'm proud to associate with them even if just via a volunteer basis.

Brand new, beautiful school. The Principal really cares about the students. There is a lot of communication between teachers and parents. We love our son's teacher and overall are having a great experience.

Lack of leadership Wow!!! I don't see that in the Principal at all, both of my children have broken bones on the school grounds, we have asked them for my supervision out during the time when kids are outside, he thinks they are being supervised enough. My daughter is in kindergarten and is having a hard time in class. I have asked for some help, the teacher advised me that the other kids in the class are ready and writing and my husband and I should start working with her at home. I work with everyday for a hour and half doing homework and other things that they assign to them. This is not 2ND grade. if I a choice I would take my kids back to Questa.!!!!!

The Altamont principal really cares about the students. It amazes me to hear my child comes home and tell me school serves organic milk. Although it lasts only few weeks, I do appreciate his effort caring for students' health. My boy seems to like Science and Design Model elective. The school has a science room, a nice library, and computer lab. Recently, principal took away the cheap chromebook and upgraded to Samsung. The leadership is respectable compares to the new high school that opens same time. Thank you principal for your great leadership!
