My two daughters graduated from Live Oak, as did my granddaughter. One daughter is a manager for Apple; the other one is a double-Board certified Surgeon. My granddaughter finished her freshman year at U of Hawaii.Don't diss Live Oak. This is not perfect, but it is a good, solid, public high school with plenty of staff that care.

I'm surprised this school has a 7 rating. Sounds like it was great at one time, but there have been a number of staff and leadership changes and I can report this in 2019 - we had a horrible experience and I took my student out of this school. During the initial orientation I could tell the leadership staff was new and inexperienced at managing a school this size. Our assigned guidance counselor was literally so busy my student could never get in to see them. I had to email them to get my student an appointment and even then it was a short 10 minute chat. The biggest issue for me was the Drug and Alcohol use on campus. My student came home daily with stories about bullying, fights, drug and alcohol use in the bathrooms, smoking, vaping and all the while staff looks the other way. Only when something goes direly wrong do they respond and even then, its not with effective virtue. This School Board needs to get a handle on this campus. As for the learning experience; a number of the teachers are amazing. The issue however is they don't (or can't) make extra time for students before or after class - most of the time. Their extra time is encapsulated under their terms and availability which makes on demand needs difficult for students who need extra help. I appreciated the teacher communications and they quickly responded to email inquiries.

I have really enjoyed having my kids here. The various booster groups seem to be key to getting the extras at the school. We just got a great sign at the front of the school that took a few years to fundraiser for but glad it is in. My kids are involved in the Ag program and Athletics. Coming from SJ, I am glad my kids have lots to offer them. I will stay involved as there seems to be good things happening. Three more years to go!
