My experience at SMCC was nothing like the reviews that likely came from parents. As a graduate of SMCC, I can only say that I have never experienced the level of bullying of students with differences, and just plain RACISM. Genuine, although at times veiled slightly, prejudice. Not only racism, but of course also prejudiced against LGBTQ, but they say that’s “okay” because they’re a Catholic school. I have never felt less supported at an institution than at this one. Genuinely not inclusive and oblivious to the gaslighting of special needs, POC, and LGBTQ students. If all you care about is your child being prepared for college, then sure send them here. But also weigh the consequences of a high school that will not support them on the path to college in any other way, and one that is VERY catholic. You’re forced to go to mass every month even if you practice a different religion. Just all around they need policy change and new leadership.

SMCC provides outstanding preparation for college and beyond. We appreciate the school's focus on students' spiritual development. SMCC really does well educating the whole person. The teachers are always willing to go above and beyond. They do an excellent job preparing students for college as evidenced by their success with placement and college scholarships. The coursework is rigorous and the classes demanding, but the experience instills the kind of work ethic that will make a person successful later in life regardless of their chosen field of study and work. We have a current freshman who is thoroughly enjoying his experience at SMCC. We feel that sending him there is an outstanding investment in his future.

I cannot express the great deal of support that I have received from this school. From the teachers to the administrators to the students - I have felt as though everyone here is a part of my family. The College Counselors are AMAZING and have truly helped me with not only finding a great college and career, but they are also helping me with my scholarship applications. I am fully prepared for my next step - college!

SMCC is a great school! They promote academics, sports, extracurricular activities AND morality in a day when morality and accountability is not in the curriculum or on the daily agenda. SMCC gives me confidence as a parent. It is like a second family.

SMCC is a fabulous school! We provide excellent academics in a Christ-centered environment with plenty of extracurricular and service opportunities. Our students like to be involved in their communities and take an active role in doing so. They strive to do well and have big dreams. All SMCC students get accepted into college and 99-100% of them go on to college every year. They are prepared for college and do very well. Many students come back to visit SMCC as alumni with pride. It's a great place for students to learn, develop and grow.

SMCC is a school that adequately prepares its students for a college educatin and professional career. Although its rules can be argued as strict, it is these ruels that prepare its students for the professional world. By implementing such guidelines, students practice the behaviors they will be required to uphold later in life. The college counselors take a genuine concern in their students, going to great lengths to ensure their success. They are extremely knowledgeable in the majority of college aspects; if it is realized they do not know much information on a certain topic, they will immediately research the area more. The teachers take care to prepare their students for college careers, while understanding what is most important - faith and family. Should a dire circumstance occur, the teachers are understanding and willing to cooperate with the student to make the situation doable. At this school, a student is provided with many opportunities. These include French/Spanish Club, NHS, Respect Life Club, and Interact. The school as a whole, through its extracurriculars, promotes faith, service, education, and success. Being a student here has undoubtedly been beneficial.

St. Mary Catholic Central is a unique environment that truly nourishes students in body, mind and spirit. Its faculty models the Catholic Christian morals that it teaches. Excellence is expected in all areas of growth. Interaction with parents is continuous and they are kept well informed. It has certainly been a great experience for our son and for us also.

SMCC is the best choice for secondary education in Monroe county. Students are developed both academically and spiritually.

My daughter is a Freshman at SMCC. I am a hard person to impress with a school (home schooled my other kids for many years) but I have to say that I am very impressed with SMCC. For one, they adjusted tuition so our large but middle-income family could afford it. The advising was personal and accommodated our daughter's special needs. Despite having Asberger's, she has felt comfortable to join several extra-curricular clubs. Academic standards are top-notch and incorporation of faith is amazing. And when a bullying situation arose, the school stepped in immediately and nipped it in the bud. I never see that in the public schools I teach in.

The teaching staff at the school is largely unable to satisfactorily educate its students, the college advisors know little beyond the main college advising topics, and many school administrators act as little more than figureheads. The school also invests a majority of its time and resources into volleyball, football, and basketball, leaving little room for the other available sports or extracurriculars. On that note, the extracurriculars offered are few and are predominantly service-based, while the only organization the school hosts that targets civic participation is the National Honor Society, and it does it only remotely. Many teachers seem to apply the horns and halos effect to their classes, and frequently, those who speak out against the school or in some way do not align with the white, upper-middle class socioeconomic status of the school are grouped into the halos category. Additionally, homework is oppressive, leaving little room for students to develop curiosity and to learn outside of the classroom.
