On a scale of 1-10, I rate my experience with this particular teacher and school leader a 2.

Poor at best. I am rating based on Fremont, not open plan.

For parents who are looking into Fremont-- Know that there are two separate schools on this campus. There is Fremont Open Plan which is a non-traditional education and filled by a lottery and just a local Fremont school where kids who live in this neighborhood attend. My oldest attended the neighborhood school until 2nd grade and then left for GATE at Sonoma. Mr. Marshall is amazing!! My other two children attended Open Plan at Fremont. -A completely different curriculum. - Traditional Fremont has some very dedicated teachers. Some huge challenges socio- economically with students coming from very diverse backgrounds. The quality of education is good if your student's go here but the friends your kids make will come from some very hard and sad situations. These may become lifelong friendships. -Open plan is very happy. There are so many field trips and community service projects and community gardens and values of friendship and responsible stewardship to the environment. It is parent and teacher based. If your student needs strict structure I do not recommend it. If they do well with hands on learning, lots of movement and collaboration and group work then it may be a perfect fit. Most Open Plan kids do well when moving on to Junior High and High School. I really love Open Plan, I do feel like it is a good representative of how job markets and the world works as a whole. More of a team, than an individual endeavor. - For you parents considering Fremont. I honestly would recommend Open Plan over Fremont unless your kid needs that strict traditional structure. Open plan instills a love for learning in a relaxed family type of environment. It's very unique and you are lucky to have stumbled upon it. Call the office and check it out. Come on in for a tour!

Fremont Open Plan is an exceptional school with dynamic teachers who nurture and guide our students to discover their own success through project based learning and whole child development philosophies. My twin daughters, which are polar opposites, have both succeeded in their own ways, both finding their confidence and voice because the the learning environment of FOP. Tired of traditional education, wanting to give your child a chance to excel in the future, then this is the school for you! Its a parent participation school, so if you like to be a part of all the fun at your child's school, you will love FOP.

I feel Fremont Open Plan has been a good fit for my son, I can't imagine him going anywhere else. He works at his pace all while learning to be accountable. And is totally allowed to be himself W/ staff and students.

Fremont Open Plan is a wonderful opportunity for young learners.I was concerned about the parent participation involvement but there are many opportunities to help aside from during the day and in the classroom. The teachers are extremely committed, effective and nurturing. The school principal does a great job of managing both sides of the school. I was initially concerned that the program wouldn't offer enough structure but it truly does. Theme based teaching rules!

The teachers and Principal are great. The Principal is extremely helpful and listens to the parents, she is kind , helpful, and easy to talk to; my son adores her. The office staff are rude and cold. The first day to register the office personal told me it was her job to request school records? Then whose job is it? She was not kind nor helpful. I cant believe she works with parents and children on a daily basis. Overall I like the school . I just wished they had money to do a complete over haul of the school it is a really old building and I was surprised that there are no computers in the class.
