I like this school and the approach to children!

Overall fantastic. We’ve been very pleased. Only small complaint is the rigidity of their discipline procedures. Not upset about the fact that my child has been disciplined, just seems like a couple of times the disciplinary measures have exceeded the level of the infraction. I can understand though, that it’s meant to be fair. But by and large, this school has been outstanding. Great spirit, fun activities and special nights throughout the year, excellent teachers, involved PTA. And Mr. Grigg often dresses up as Jack Jouett and will ride a horse in the parking lot on Jouett’s birthday (look Jouett up-he’s a cool guy). Very, very happy to be here.

We visited JES during the summer to begin the registration process for our kindergartener and immediately were welcomed by a caring and friendly staff. Mr. Grigg - principal, took time out of his day to meet with our child and from that moment on encouraged positive self esteem not just for us but for every individual in the school. His motto is "Be Legendary". JES offers many different programs to fit every child's needs. Our child's needs were immediately noticed and decided he needed to be placed in the gifted program. He was challenged in a very positive and effective way. Every day he got off the bus he expressed his love for school. He was awarded for his outstanding achievement, an award that was given to a student once a month who showed "Lengendary" pride. Unfortunately we have to relocate and were not able to attend JES. I highly recommend this school.

We first moved to Louisa almost 7 years ago. We were told by several of our neighbors how the staff at JES impacted their lives and how unique and different they were from the schools in other districts. We wrestled with the decision between homeschooling, private and public. After a lot of prayer and council we decided what was best for our family was public. I will never forget randomly deciding to stop by the school on a July afternoon to speak with the Principles and staff regarding my fears and specific challenges with having two sons with Autism spectrum. The staff immediately expressed compassionate understanding, offered professional solutions and strategies for each of my children. During a IEP over my oldest son with Autism, the staff looked at my soon to be 3 year old and offerred to help him in their Pre-K program. The teachers here are real, they are experts and phenomenal. They are not a school that limits helping just the child succeed, they help the whole family and the community here in Louisa. I am extremely proud to have my children here and I am personally blessed by everyone who works and volunteers here!

Jouett Elementary is an excellent school and am exceedingly happy that my children attend it. Mr Pelloni (Principal) and his staff have more than been helpful at all times. I get answers when asked and help for the children when requested. I appreciate what the system does for all the kids. There is a problem with bulling at the school, but am assured that it will be taken care of.. All in All a great school system with minor problems

I have seen a decline in respect for students and parents. There has been a drop in communication. The upper grade teachers spend more time gossiping amonst themselves than paying attention to the welfare of the students. Problems are swept under the rug by the Jouett administration. If your child is not perfect in appearance or intellect then they are targeted as conversation material and bullying by other students which administration has been unable to curtail. The administration makes excuses and does not fix problems within the school.

Our first couple of years with a child at Jouett was concerning with morale, organization/structure at the teacher & overall school levels. The current principal, Mr Pelloni has taken great measures over the last couple of years to elevate these things. He and the staff are great with the kids & parents. Our only remaining concern is the organization of homework, tests, and communication with individual teachers. We don't always find out about tests & projects until the last minute, turning it into a mad dash.

The schoo lHas Gotten a 1000 percent better I think since the new principle Mr.Pelloni has taken over. I think the school is in a better place as a whole since he became principle. yes there are still things that could be worked on but I believe that is just part of "public school education" Everyone seems happier from students to teachers. I hope he stays Principle.

I am a 6th year Jouett parent. Over the years I've seen a shift in morale from staff, parents and the children to a negative manner. I'm happy to report that the repair to that morale is taking place this year under the new guidance and vision of our 1st year principal, Mr. Pelloni. Cosmetic changes prior to the school year boosted positive moral for the teachers, children and parents alike. Where communication faltered in the past couple years, we parents are already more informed than we have been and we're still in the first 9 weeks of school! The teaching staff are a majority group of happy teachers doing their best to educate our children under the thumb of state and county policy. While I don't agree w/ the 'teach to test' approach that the state puts too much emphasis on, I feel that great strides are being made this year to reach those students who haven't in the past been given enough one-on-one focus to keep up with their peers. Overall, I see this school returning to it's former prestige as one of the best in the county. I'm hoping that these efforts will bring parent involvement to a new high in both the PTA and overall volunteerism of the community.

This school is great. Great teachers, administration and support staff. I love the fact that there is a nurse in the building during school hours. No sharing a nurse with another school. Many of the "BIG" school systems in the area have nurses that travel from school to school. This school also offers art, music, gym and library. Students are great also. This is just a great school.

I'd have to say that I was disappointed with the communication. We readily got calls when our child was out of line, but to get return calls when we had concerns or even return emails was at best 20%. The school has a bullying problem which they didn't address until year end. It took 7 months and two personal visits to get address and phone records corrected.
