Wonderful school - lots of opportunities to get involved and meet staff & families. Easy to reach staff. Definitely feel supported as a parent. The students are very respectful, reflective of the academic & social environment at Whittier.

Whittier is a great community! Teachers are caring, not just of their own students, but all students. Despite being a small student population, there are plenty of sports opportunities. The only downside is Whittier goes to 5th grade. We wish we could have our son at Whittier through 8th grade.

Joining Whittier was one of our best choices for our children's growing learning process. Whittier impressed us IMMEDIATELY. Peggy Mystrow, Principal, is the best Leader for John Whittier Elementary School. I was soo impressed how Mrs. Mystrow knew every kid's name. It did not take long to see why, she is there everyday greeting everyone that comes to family game night, movie night, school plays, etc. There are so many Amazing teachers in the school to provide the kids with a great mixture of learning and fun to make their experience, "not feel like" sxhool. We are friends with all the staff members at Whittier, inside and out of the school walls. They have organized events that suport the families that attend. Whottier's staff spend so much time and effort, above and beyond the things "teachers" have to do. I couldn't imagine having my 2 sons in any other school. My oldest graduated on June 15th 2023, and my youngest still has 2 more amazing years left. Thank you soo much to all the people that work within the Whittier School Community. If anyone is thinking about joining this amazing community, do it TODAY.... You will apply at a school, and join a FAMILY.

Whittier is a great school with teachers who care. The principal is accessible and easy to talk with. The school is located in a nice neighborhood and has a lot of space/green space.I highly recommend Whittier. It's a great school community.

Excellent school with a great team of teachers and staff members led by the principal with sharp focus on children’s need and development. School environment promotes learning and character building for students. This is no surprise that this school has been exceeding expectation on the state report card.

My child previously attended a private Catholic school and my fiancé and I were very unhappy with the level of education he had received and the lack of authority the teachers had over the classroom. After transitioning to Whitter, my son has been able to receive the level of attentiveness that he needed in order to be an effective learner. I can say for the most part I have been able to work with the teachers in partnership for my child's education. And since he has been at Whitter his knowledgebase has expanded exponentially.

The teachers are very attentive to the kids and resolve any issues that may come up right away. The field trips, activities, and programs they provide are great! My nephew attended his first year here and we've noticed so much improvement. The kids are all so unique and well behaved. I highly recommend this school to nearby neighborhoods.

I WAS NOT going to send my child to an MPS school after hearing all the horror stories. But when my wife and I saw that Whittier only took kids from the neighborhood (No Buses) it intrigued us significantly. After reviewing their academic program and seeing that they are a National Blue Ribbon school, we were definitely sold. The teachers and the staff have all been so nice and very interactive with not only the students, but parents too. If all MPS schools were run like this, we would consider MPS for Middle School. The only downside to Whittier is that it only goes to 5th grade. As a very concerned and protective parent, you will have ZERO concerns sending your child here.

Whittier is a great school! Had to move my son from a different school that got "restructured". Really glad we found them. It's a small school, where you really get to know all the teachers and staff. We will really miss them next year. I tell everyone I know how great it is. Lots of parental involvement and a really great sports program. We definitely made the right choice sending my kids here!

We were able to use the school choice program to get into Whittier. We were lucky to be accepted! Our daughter has progressed rapidly in her education. Its only our 2nd year, but our interaction with teachers, volunteers and staff have been great. A very family oriented school with great test scores, and constant parent involvement. We love Whittier!

Whittier has a wonderful, engaged staff who are intent on the success of their students. They have a great character building environment and accelerate at academics.
