I have 4 kids that have attended Devon Aire K-8 Center, 2 of them are still there. It's a great school, my oldest two were very well prepared for their new magnet high school and magnet middle school. I chose not to keep my second child there for middle school because the gifted program was not challenging enough for my child. They would complete all their work, get all A's and honor roll, and still be bored even with added work like iXL math two grades higher than they were in. My youngest two kids are still there in elementary grade levels and may stay for middle school as my oldest did all the way through 8th. The PTSA is amazing, they do a lot for students and families. The parent chats are life savers and make us feel connected and involved with the school and classrooms. There are a lot of amazing teachers but sadly a few had to get surplussed to other schools and we are devastated that our youngest kids won't have them like their siblings did. There are a couple teachers that should have retired years ago and don't seem to enjoy teaching anymore, I'd recommend transferring out of their classes if placed in them. For over 10 years I've been very involved with this school and watched it change in this post pandemic world. There's a new principal, the school is starting up "3 academies" what seems to be a test to becoming magnet programs eventually, they've added a lot of middle school sports which is great, and they are slowly developing the performing arts electives (dance, theatre, and music). There are no art classes for middle schoolers and the electives for middle school are very limited. They force them to take PE all 3 years unless you sign a waiver to get out of it, we did not because we wanted our kids active and that meant only 1 additional elective class per year. Being at a K-8 Center has a hidden benefit because it's like extending the elementary experience while adding in a little more of the extra responsibilities of middle school in a safe and familiar environment they've been in since prekindergarten. They keep all their friends and switch to a block schedule while keeping the same elementary school hour schedule of 8:35 AM to 3:05 PM (or 1:50 PM Wednesdays). Overall I'd give the elementary part of the school a 9 out of 10 and the middle school part a 7 out of 10 rating. If you have multiple kids of varying ages it would be ideal to keep them all together as long as possible if they are being challenged academically.

My daughter just graduated 8th grade from Devon air. I moved into the neighborhood because of the school because apparently used to be a great school years ago. That has changed. I witnessed my daughters friends get changed to different schools as she begged to get out into Arvida which has a terrible reputation and for that reason I never decided to change schools. The kids that attend Devon air are great kids in general but the administration has no clue as how to deal with teen and preteens. Teachers are bullies, so if you have your child there do not think teachers have the kids best interest. There are some good teachers that seem to lose interest quickly.

This used to be a great school many years ago. Hurts to say, but they have definitely lost their touch! Though they have some exceptional teachers, the few bad apples that they do have bring their score down in my book.. The administration is not the best and the middle school offers very little for students. If you are looking for K-8 convenience, that is all you will get. You are keeping your child from all that most other middle schools offer as far as programs and elective departments.

Completely terrible. We moved into this neighborhood for the school district and pay higher than normal rents to live here because of that. I definitely regret it now. They depend on their last reputation of being an exceptional school but it hasn’t lived up to that in a very long time. Lots of students and teachers have been leaving and I don’t blame them. We’ve had trouble here almost from day one and it’s only gotten worse. Teachers and administration have a horrible attitude and really believe they are an amazing school. If that were true, they would put their own kids there but most of them go to other schools (including the assistant principal’s kids)!!! What does that tell you? Do yourself a favor and stay far away! The high rating is only because of test scores which are also constantly falling. All they really care about at this school is the FSA to make them look like a good school. Worst decision ever to send my child here!!! I’m actively looking for another one.

I would rate it as a 2.0 i thought this school was suppose to be an excellent school and even moved to put my child there but i was totally wrong since. She started in 3rd grade and now she is in 6th grade and i see no improvement in anything from teachers to office staff to student. I wish i can move again to change her to something better.

I'm a student here at Devon, going into 8th grade. It gets me so emotional to see the people that I've grown up with graduate and move on from this school. Every graduate says this school is a magical place, and they're right! I love this school and all the teachers are kind and they care about you even if you don't take their classes. For parents that are thinking of enrolling their child here, go for it! Every child of every grade is open to one another and it's very easy to make friends. To students going into 6th who may be reading this, don't be scared! The eighth graders this year are very kind and I would know. Don't be scared of the seventh graders, they were once in your position. If you need help, ask any adult and they'll instantly do their best to help you out. This is the best school I've ever been to, it's like my second home. I'd give it more stars if I could. (:

For parents who are looking for a middle school for their child to go to or can't decide wether to keep your child in Devon Aire for middle school I am here to tell you as a student of Devon Aire for 9 years to take your child to Devon Aire. I've been able to get the Middle school experience while still being around friends I have know for years now. The teachers are great in every grade and course. There's a vast majority of electives for students. In DAK-8 we only ever have like one little fight a year if any. Students are mature enough and have been taught enough about bullying to know fighting is not an okay thing to do. Bullying is also never tolerated at DAK-8 and if it is reported councilors are right there to solve the problem. We are also probably the only school who has spill out which is basically after we eat in the cafeteria (btw its one of the nicest in the district) we are allowed to go outside to talk with friends or play sports like football depending on if students bring a ball. I know now as an 8th grader going to staying in this wonderful school was the best decision I could have made because now I can go on to high school knowing I'm prepared.

My child entered school this year, and I ve had some issues with the school, security issues mostly. No one is challenged when entering the school premises...anyone can get in. Although classroom doors cannot be opened from outside, anyone can still be walking around the school. Disorganization with homework and belongings is also an issue. After school care is not good either, sometimes they have younger children in "field" outside the school premises. Young children should be given priority when assigning groups to "field". They should stay within the school premises not the public park where anything can happen. Lunch time is also concerning...sometimes children don t have enough time to eat and they have to throw away their lunches because it s time to go back to class, and they are not allowed to take the food with them. Same thing happens when they are sick with cold or dirty...nobody cleans them nor encourages them to clean themselves...I speak for the younger children. I have to say, I am disapointed of this school.

My children have been in Devonaire k 8 center since kindergarten and I feel our school is one of the best schools in Miami Dade.We are like a family. We all care about each other. We have the best teachers and have been an A+ school for many years, which I feel id proof of what a great school we have. They really deserve the $5000.00 dollars. Ms.Miranda

The teachers are suoer. The school employees are very personable. They get to know the parents and it feels like family. The education is very good. Except I hear the spanish teacher spends her time buying shoes online instead of teaching. The new principal is very involved and very caring.

Incredible attention to all aspects of your children's education. Administration, faculty and the entire staff is committed to the success of the children. PTA is great and very involved. It is a blessing and an honor to be in this school.

First of all I do like the school but I have a problem with security of the school and the principal. He stated in a phone message to all parents he is doing everything for the security of the school. I'd have to so negative. Anyone can walk in without being challenged. I do have to say the teachers I have seen so far are very good. They talk to the parents and keep everyone informed of what is going on. The principal is out of date on issues time to retire.

The principal hates hispanics which is funny since we are in Miami, never says hello, not educated either kind or polite. I think he needs to go home and retire

THIS IS AN AMAZING SCHOOL. THE TEACHERS TRULY CARE AND THE ENVIRONMENT IS VERY DIVERSE. It's one of the few top Miami public schools; the environment is very safe. I defiantly recommend it. The school is like a family.
