I am a current sophomore at Mountain View High School. I think that by being in all honors classes, I am not around a lot of the bad/questionable students. In my elective classes, I notice that there are many students that I am not comfortable with. Apparently, we have a dress code, but no one follows it. I have seen too much, and I think that it should be more enforced. Also, I think that banning drugs and smoking should be more enforced because it is not present, and I would like to not be around those terrible smells when I am simply trying to walk from class to class. I have more things to say, but I should probably get going on the mountain of homework I have.

Mostly all of the teachers here put so much pressure on you to uphold mountain view's "reputation." They also expect you to respect them when they treat you like children and could absolutely care less about us. The teachers think that they are above us and they act so bigoted it is annoying. Last year and the year before, the school had this thing called workday-wednesday which was basically a day to catch up on work. For some reason almost all of the teachers got rid of it this year because they were being too "lenient" and "it didn't help the students." For me personally it realluy helped me stay caught up with all of my school work and it made things less stressful. This year it would have been especially helpful in my math class. My teacher gives us up to four assignments every day and doesn't have us take any notes. He will go through a few problems with us an that is it. None of our work is on the computer, it is all on paper, this leads to him losing some of the assignments. Some of my assignments I have turned in but then gotten F's on because he lost my homework before he graded it. Circling back to the bigoted personalities of the teachers, my orchestra will pick on the students and favor others. Instead of doing fair chair placement she will put her favorite students in the front and her least favorite in the back. Plus she is supposed to switch players between the first and second violin sections every quarter but she never does. She wil swap about 3 kids at the start of a new semester. She also constantly tells us we are doing horrible and never gives us any positive feedback. She never really teaches us anything, we will do something wrong and she has us play it over and over again until it is to her liking instead of telling us what we did wrong. Moving on, there often issues and contention between students and the teachers/staff do nothing whatsoever to fix this. Last year there was a bunch of fights, students kept pulling the fire alarm, and there were threats as well as bullying. Though they do address the problems, nothing is done to fix it except putting more security at the school. The staff and the teachers also do not take into consideration that some of the students have mental illnesses that can and do affect how they learn. I have anxiety when it comes to public speaking and yet my teachers still make me do presentations. It is clear that the staff/teachers do not care for the students as much as they should.

I'm a sophomore at this school. I'm disabled. My legs barely work. I can walk, but not well. This is the most horrifically inaccessible school I've ever been too. The ramps are so steep that it's easier to take the stairs. They lock the elevators, and sometimes they don't even work. All of the wheelchair accessibility buttons on doors are broken. The doors can barely clear wheelchairs anyways. I have collapsed during class before and called the "Toro Tipline" for a wheelchair only for one to never come. On a day that I had a particularly bad flare up, my pain was at an 8. I went to the health office, told them by problem, asked for any kind of mobility aid, and they offered me ice. I couldn't WALK and they offered me ICE. The teachers here are all horrible except for a handful, the students are bigoted and judgmental, the campus is a nightmare to navigate. You're better off just not getting an education than going here.

Mountain View is a great school with great students and teachers! There are cliques, but you get that everywhere. For the most part, the school does what it's supposed to, and everyone has fun.

I had a great experience. A lot of people like to act like them not being Mormon is what made them hate high school... but I am not mormon and I had a great time and great experiences

Generally unimpressive. Several of the teachers here are outstanding, and because of them, this school gets two stars instead of one - you really feel bad that they have to put up with the mediocre dictatorship of the administration every day. There is a higher population of LDS people here, both the students and staff, but as a person not in the LDS church, the only time I regret it is around Christmas, when the school puts on a "Winter" Assembly, where the majority of the music is explicitly religious Christmas songs. I definitely wanted some diversity there at least, especially the year when a joke about Judaism was delivered in one of the performances. Sure, Mountain View puts up a facade of being a good school, but honestly, there are better opportunities elsewhere where the staff as a whole genuinely cares about the students as people, and not just as graduating machines who can improve the statistics and ratings of the school.

I am a former teacher at Mt. View. I can assure all that if parents are willing to put in a bit of time to structure a schedule, learn about courses and teachers, and push for an appropriately challenging curriculum, the reward will be tremendous. In the category of large public schools, Mt. View is excellent. For parents, dig in, do your homework and the results will be excellent.

I have 3 children attending Mountain View and all are receiving a quality education. However, my husband and I have been extremely disappointed in the principal and his passive attitude about the success of all students. When we expressed our unhappiness about a poor quality math teacher at Mountain View he simply shrugged off the concern. Aren't we a campus of champions? We haven't felt like he's a champion.

I currently have two children attending Mountain View and couldn’t be more pleased with this school. As a parent, I have constant access to my children’s grades (and any missing assignments); which ensures no surprises pop up on my children’s report cards. The teachers, staff and administration are friendly and supportive to both my children and myself. Anytime I have reached out for guidance I have been quickly responded to and very happy with the help/advice I received. The Academic Advisement Department (specifically Carla Boyle) is awesome at Mountain View. Carla was key in helping me guide my children in planning their 4-year course selections to ensure a positive High School experience. There are so many course choices available and opportunities for students to get involved in clubs and community service. This is a great school and I am so glad my children are a part of it!

Still learning how this school works so far I've had issues with the administrative people being rude in the office to parents and students.

I graduated in 2012, this was the schools worst academic and athletic school year ever since opening in 1976. The students don't have intuition to get the work done and teachers really don't care if you pass or fail. When talking about athletics, the school has fired 3 head coaches for football since I've graduated. What is the staff there thinking? It's like they just find the best resume and assume what's wrote on paper can transfer to performance. This school will be a nobody school within 10 years. I was ashamed to go there in 2012. I feel bad for the parents and students that deal with that school now. If your son or daughter has a car try to enroll them in desert ridge or red mountain it will be a way better highschool experience.

My son was very excited to start this new high school being from another state this was an even scarier experience. Everything was going great until he started getting bullied. He was assaulted by another student ,with permanent damage. The school would not believe his side of the story and seem to side more with what the problems kids stated. My son is terrified of going to school here as t hey just slap the wrist of these kids and nothing happens. We attempted to talk to the principle and he has not returned our call. We talked to another staff member as she was told we were looking at restraining orders on these kids. We have never got a concerned call from anyone about putting restraining orders on students and it being a concern. We have since pulled him. I was never questioned as to why we were withdrawing. It seemed like an everyday normal occuarnce. The staff was more concerned as too why i didnt have his textbooks with me to return. Which i will. This school has great oppourtunites in their programs but there lack of concern of a students safety is disturbing.

Reading the reviews I was surprised to read the teachers favored the LDS faith. Being of the faith I chuckled because I was not favored. In fact I was more picked on by the teachers. I wouldn't say because of my faith but because of my personality and lack of ties with sports. They say it's a great school but I was never academically in any of the higher classes. Resources were great and I had good teachers for the most part. There are more races now then when I went there 2005 but it's still a high school and not a bubble despite a large population of Lds people. In fact our class president was not LDS so you don't have to be of that faith to be involved with any leadership.

Moutain view is an outstanding school. I know many of you are concered with the LDS faith but it is not a problem at all. There isint very many "cliques". If you're a hard working student you will suceed in this school. While i am with the LDS faith i have talked to many non members who have said the LDS kids have always been great! Moutain view is a changed school. Dont take it from parents who have just over heard there kids complain. I have first hand expierence. No teenager is going to tell there parents how good it is. They just say the negative. Please consider this school.

This High School has the look and feel of a small College! Very professional and great learning environment for the students. Although a good many are concerned about the "LDS" population, I do not see where this should have anything to do with how the school is rated. My family isn't LDS but shouldn't learning and how the school is run be the rating and NOT what kind of students go there?

I am hoping that the Mesa School District hires us a good Principal that cares about students is what we will get. Mr. Luketich is retiring, and I hope we get a young up and comer in MVHS that will inspire our students to be the best that they can be. Here is hoping from a parent of 3 future MVHS students that we get somebody who cares about all students learning as if it is all that matters.
