Principal Heather Horne has made a huge positive impact on this school! She was a former teacher and a former parent, she really gets all sides and tries to create an environment that's a win for everyone. She cares deeply about teacher retention and keeping the best teachers. Good teachers have told us they're happy here and love her, and that speaks volumes! As a parent, I have loved sending my kids, we even drive out of boundary to go. We've had one or two teachers who weren't amazing, but we've had about six who have changed our kids' lives for the better and been the best of the best! The Spanish Immersion program is fantastic. It provides a lot of elevated learning, cultural appreciation, and helps kids really excel in all subjects. I love that they have a GT program for 3rd grade and up. It's one day a week and I am floored by the advanced learning and engineering and math enhancement. We carpool with a group of kids who are all in GT, and they all say it's their favorite day of the week. They do it so well in this district, and the school has it down to make sure they get the enhancement and don't fall behind in regular classes. Bullying issues are addressed quickly here and are not tolerated. It feels like a very safe place for kids to be, very accepting with a little more diversity than many Mesa schools, and somewhere where kids are known by name. The parent involved may be their strongest asset! Teachers have learned how to involve volunteers, ask for donations where appropriate, and utilize a strong parent community that love to be involved and help. I often find that if I don't volunteer or sign up as soon as forms are released or signups are sent, it's gone in no time. It's a great problem to feel like you have to be on the ball to get the opportunity to help more with the school since so many parents freely give and help here! You'll feel like a community with parents who care and at least most teachers who really want your help and support to be a team together. It's been just a great decision to enroll and while there's always room for improvement and some imperfect people, you'll find a truly caring environment where learning is fun and kids are treated well!

Such a great school. Great staff, great teachers, and great kids. Very little bullying goes on here, lots of respect and lots of school pride. My daughter thrived at this school and is so sad to leave to jr high!

We believe that public (non-charter)/ neighborhood schools and believe that neighborhood schools have a symbiotic relationship with the communities in which they reside. Furthermore, our children have been in several public (including Department of Defense) schools across the United States and this is a good school in a top notch community with plenty of involved parents and volunteers. My only concerns are that the Spanish immersion program isn't universal for all students at Hermosa Vista (I believe that all students should be tri-lingual: English + another foreign language + computer language) and (like most places), if your child isn't in the gifted programs, then they are lumped in with the lowest common (academic) denominator and the curriculum may not be that challenging. I am also concerned that a new charter will siphon away good families/ students in the future - but Hermosa Vista has been a strong school for a couple generation of students.

Was very surprised by the lack of professionalism in one teacher in particular. No child should be belittled or made to feel inadequate especially at school!! When a teacher stoops to the level of a child in terms of attitude, mannerisms, and all around personality there is a problem. I question the level of education if these are the teachers they are choosing to be employed at this establishment?!

I love this school. They do so much for the kids. The office staff and teachers are fantastic!

This is school goes through teachers fast. The principal is a joke. It's also a very discriminatory school. Look elsewhere if you want a happy child.

My daughter is entering the fourth grade and has attended Hermosa Vista Elementary since kindergarten. I cannot say enough good things about this school! The teachers are great and I've always felt they've had my daughter's best interest in mind. The third grade teacher she just finished the year with is the best teacher I've encountered through my own schooling as well as my older son's education. My daughter was actually sad that school was ending this year, and that is unheard of! We are in the process of moving, but I intend to keep her at Hermosa Vista.

In reading through the reviews below, I see that most of them are out of date. 5 of my older kids went to HV at the same time as these parent review and I agree, it was a great school. I was excited to send our 3 youngest there as well. The first year or two was ok with minimal issues but most of the teachers are sarcastic or hard to connect with as a parent. My daughter just finished the 3rd grade and she had a horrible year. She came home crying almost every day. I am looking for a new school - very disastisfied. I called to speak w/prinicpal several times about teachers dressing like prostitutes and issues w/bullies and clicks but she was patronizing and kind in telling me that she would address the issues and take care of them her way. Which apears to be nothing at all. Most of the teachers there are brand new out of school and several don't have kids of their own - making it hard for them to understand how to communicate w/parents and the students. The older teachers mostly seem to be tired of teaching and pick and choose who to be nice to. Some are still great teachers, but I'm not interested in the crap shoot of getting a good teacher.

I currently have 3 children attending this school. I have a daughter in 6th grade, a daughter in 3rd grade and a son in kindergarten. This is a wonderful school! The teachers are great and so is the parental involvement. The front office staff is friendly. The principal is involved in the school and doesn't just lock herself up in the office. Most of the children are well behaved and that has something to say about the parents! The only downside is there are about 25 - 30 kids in each classroom, which I think is too many for one teacher to handle, although the teachers do well considering. We bought our house because it was in the Hermosa Vista boundaries and I am so glad we did!
