I went here many years ago, and I suppose it was pretty good. There were some issues with certain teachers, and it seemed as though said teachers could do no wrong. Fast forward to present day, and a family member's two kids went through Merton. The one seemed to do just fine, but the other had special emotional/learning needs. My family member fought tooth and nail for help for her, and was given the run around. I fear she suffered greatly academically and socially due to the lack of early educational intervention. Her parents jumped through every hoop required and then some, just to be put on the back burner time and time again. My husband also went to Merton years ago, and he had plenty of issues stemming from trauma at that time. They had no idea what to do, and pushed back on his parents, refusing to do much at all. The basic CMC came into play, but he was greatly ignored and antagonized by certain school personnel. I hope for a better and more inclusive experience all around. Our children cannot succeed and carry society to and through greatness if we ignore them in their greatest time of need. Our school board is one place to start. Put people who care and have experience with these issues in places of power; not just another pretty face.

My three kids, who are all really different, had great experiences at Merton. The math program allowed them to get high school credit as 8th graders, the teachers really cared about the kids, and the school let them be kids without stressing them out.

School leadership not effective in managing bullying.

Merton is probably the worst school ever. Here are my reasons. If you’re not pretty, you don’t have friends. If you don’t have friends, you’re a loser. If you have a friend, and they leave you, you are considered a loser. If you come back from a break, you immediately have a stack of homework.Bullies aren’t stopped, kids tell other kids to “kill themselves” and they won’t get in trouble for it.The swearing is unbelievable. Kids don’t know how to speak english, only vulgar. They don’t handle “outside bullying” because it’s not on “school grounds” so apparently, they tolerate bullying. Teachers don’t know how to not be condescending. You don’t talk about suicide, because it’s not “School Appropriate”If you want to drop out of a class, you can’t because it’s a “Year round commitment.”

I just finished up my second year at this school and it feels like I've been here forever. This is the best school I have ever gone to. I don't want to go to any school but this one. The teachers are super nice and great at teaching us. They always make sure you get the concepts they are teaching. The kids are also amazing. When I first came here I thought it would be difficult to make friends but they were so nice and accepted me on the first day. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. It's an amazing school!
