I am currently a student at Miscoe Hill Middle School. I will be quite clear, this school is not great. I was bullied during my second year and nothing was done about it. Most of the teachers care and show respect towards students. Other teachers can’t teach and they still work here. Those few teachers yell at kids, are passive aggressive, and rely on technology to teach. Kids have gotten food poisoning from the food. And several kids have been injured by others and the person who caused the incident rarely gets any punishment. When punishment is given it’s usually to the wrong person. During my first year the girls bathroom had broken locks and some had to stand outside the stall to hide the giant gaps. There is rarely a day when a kid doesn’t get called to the office. The school is screwed up and most major officials don’t seem to care and are to focused on the misuses of school tech..

I had the misfortune of attending this school for four years. During my time there, I noticed an overall lack of enthusiasm and enthusiasm from both the students and the faculty. The teachers were apathetic and unhelpful, and the curriculum was outdated and unimaginative. The facilities were inadequate and the resources were woefully inadequate. The atmosphere was oppressive and unpleasant, and I felt constantly like I was being judged and scrutinized by my peers. The administration was unresponsive and uncaring, and the students were largely unengaged and uninterested in their education. I never felt supported or encouraged during my time there, and I ultimately left with a feeling of disappointment and dissatisfaction. I would not recommend this school to anyone. And the food is so bad people have gotten food poisoning.

As a current student at Miscoe Hill Middle School I personally think that I would not recommend this school for anyone who want to go. As if for social-emotional support it is absolutely absurd. This consists of constant bullying from students like making false rumors about other students. This has gotten so bad that one of my friends had to go to therapy for it. Students should not have to go to therapy just because of these rumor accusations. When we tell on these people for their wrong doing's all their punishment is is recess detention? or even worse just letting them of the hook and forcing them to say sorry. All that is doing is letting them continue to make these accusations. Students at Miscoe Hill shouldn't have to go through this. This is really disappointing because I was very excited to become a member of the Miscoe hill community, but now I feel dissatisfied whenever the weekend is over and I have to go to school. My learning experience was pretty dull for the most part. Some of the stuff that teachers are teaching are pretty repetitive for what last year taught me, and now I'm feeling I won't have as much growth this year. For the most part what teachers teach us is I guess okay for me just not as amusing as it was before. Now as for safety I couldn't say I feel exceedingly safe at Miscoe. When going for recess their is a extensive amount of people crashing into other people and shoving. For the students who have claustrophobia and anxiety I feel incredibly bad for them, As their is an excessive amount of people shoving and pushing into people just for recess when they will soon get out and still have time to play. And I know the swings are a popular choice at the playground but still everyone can have their time to play on the swings. That's really all I'd like to talk about and maybe Miscoe Hills Principle and Vice Principle can do something to fix these problems here. Thank you so much!

I am currently student at Miscoe Hill School. There are countless behavioral issues here that disrupt and hold back the class, it’s easy to get frustrated and hard to focus in this environment for me personally. At dismissal the hallways are packed with usually screaming and pushing kids. This causes many students anxiety. It seems like the principal doesn’t do much about it. Some teachers challenge you in class, some don’t. Overall the teachers are very nice, educate their students well, and care about us. We do fun activities such as going outside during classes and playing fun, educational games in classes. Many teachers feel bad for and truly try to help the kids who are respectful and want to learn but it’s hard when they have to keep stopping the class several times to talk to the kids disrupting the class.

Overall our children have been very happy at Miscoe Hill. Some of the reviews here are from 5-7 years ago from disgruntled parents who probably complain about everything anyways. We've always had great communication with the educators specially during the last year. Overall I think it's a fantastic school, and the community in Upton itself is phenomenal.

Though the general experience with the students are good, I don’t like the pace at which they teach. They’ve been reteaching things for three years now.

The only good thing was the drama department. The kids outside of that program were all awful to my child and the teachers only helped most of the time. The Spanish immersion students were not being challenged enough and didn't get a Project Block (which is a time to work on homework or other projects.) The school is VERY rundown and instead of getting new lockers that have doors that actually close, or fixing ceilings so they don't leak, they decided to pay $500 for rocks outside, and a roof over the parking lot. Would have thought that some of the most important years in my child's life would have been better educated.

We recently moved here from out of state. We are very unhappy with Miscoe Hill. The curriculum is 2-3 years behind where my student was at their old school especially in math. They spend no time working on writing. The children are not placed in class based on ability. My child is bored! The children spend more time in electives and reward time (is an extra hour of recess necessary every other day?) than they do on academics. My child has barely anytime to eat lunch because of recess...I never heard of middle school students having recess. My child does not have gym class at all. My child's teachers have been great, but the principal and office staff are unfriendly and offer little help. And the greatschools review states all these activities and sports the school is supposed to offer, but most are not available. The greatschools review does not offer correct information....the current principal is Mrs. Meyer. The school is a very old building (built in 1960) that has not been maintained very well. There is no air conditioning. Much of the building could use a good cleaning and a coat of fresh paint. The old gym at the back of the the school is a rundown disgrace. Our children are our future and more should be done to make this a more pleasant experience. There should be more options and opportunities based on the abilities and needs of the students when it comes to their education.

As a student at Miscoe Hill I can say that this school is very good. The teachers actually care about your future. The school has Enrichment (Afterschool) programs that are very fun and educational. The guidance counsel are decent but I suggest another source for major problems. The biggest problem I have are some of the kids there. The 2015-2016 5th graders can be annoying,At least some of them.
