I was really nervous having my child start school here given the negative reviews, but we have been pleasantly surprised with how happy we have been here. We really like the principal and think he is doing great things. Leadership is so important to a good school and they picked a good principal to lead this school. It is a middle school, so there are problems, but my child has felt safe and happy here. We have been pleased with the teachers, too. There is only one tech ed teacher that doesn't seem invested; all the other teachers have been good. The no phones rule is a great thing that I strongly support. I hope this school keeps going strong and improving as it seems to have been doing over the past years under Principal Smith.

I just got out of this school, this school feels awful. Bullying, fights, discrimination, and much more. It has its upsides, like some teachers are great, the end of 8th grade party was amazing, but that's about it.Sorry to say it, but there were only a few good teachers. Horrible tech help.Mediocre teachers over all.Fun counselors.Great medical help. Sub-par emotional help.Unless you get lucky with your teachers, little wiggle room. The only thing that made this somewhat OK? The community. We, as students made this place bareable. That might even be stretching it, in my first year I was bullied, judged, and was just an overall outcast. But, I became somewhat popular in seventh grade, and even more in eighth. So I don't know if you can, will, or do relate to this. This school has two stars for a reason.

i have been at this school for 2 years now im in 7th grade and this school is horrible. some of the teachers are super mean and won't let you go to the bathroom, and the subs are even worst, in 6th grade i had a sub for one of my classes he made the whole class cry and he sent some people out for crying because he needed them to ¨control their feelings¨ now he's a teacher in this district. lunch is the worst part of the day for me and some people because i saw someone fall the person who was in the lunch line and the teacher who was in the lunch line didn't ask them if they were ok they told them to go to the back of the line.

I am a student at this school, I will say this school decently handles bullying and encourages socializing! I do find the Pre-Algebra classes which are supposed to be the hardest for 6th grade are too slow and a little easy aside from the amount of homework and how much detail a few teachers ask of. Lunch is another main issue personally, although they have good food, they make everyone sit in a seat instead of having them line up once they get there. I would recommend this if you are looking for a school that prevents bullying and/or helps with socializing. If you are looking for a school with high education I believe there may be better schools for you or your child.

Both my kids have cognitive disabilities, psychiatric conditions and one who struggles academically. They have been bullied by other students, by the administration, by teachers..... If your kid is not neurotypical or "normal" do not send them here.

One trimester in and we don’t like it! Too many kids, not enough staff and all around disappointment in care for students

Principle needs to go. She personalizes everything "My school. My students. I make certain that no bullying occurs" all were her pitch in orientation this year. School rating was an 8 out of 10 before she was in role.

Excellent and passionate staff, I wish I had this exceptional schooling when I was a kid. Effective use of tax dollars!

This school needs better leadership. My child's right to free speech was taken away and was graded down because of a personal difference of opinion with a science teacher about the origin of the earth. The principle was advocating for the staff, not making sure students have a safe learning environment where critical thinking and mutual respect are present. While some of the teachers are wonderful, unfortunately the school on a whole is a big disappointment due to a few bad apples and poor leadership. We are going elsewhere for a better education.

The administrative staff are very rude. My child was sent down to the office for a minor dress code violation ( She was wearing running shorts that were maybe 1 inch too short) and the staff in the office laughed at her. The woman that had her put her arms down to see how short the shorts were said to the other staff in the room something along the lines of 'Ladies, see how short her shorts are! Do you really think you could wear this?' They kept her out of class for more than half an hour, waiting for someone to talk to her for only a few minutes. I personally find this disgusting. They took away my child's right to learn all because her shorts were a bit too short.

I went here from 7th grade-9th grade because I was within district. Although many of the staff are devoted to teaching, the faculty could improve. If you are looking for a school that values high academic standards, community involvement, and unity this school is not for you. Over the course of my stay at this school I have witnessed many physical fights. I also witnessed a lot of drug use while I was there. I did not feel safe or comfortable being in this building. Overall the school is not challenging and every day felt like a prison. If this school had more student outreach opportunities and clubs, I'm sure this would bump it up to 2 stars. Maple Grove Junior High needs a lot of work and possibly all new administrative staff. This is only from my experience, but I hope you choose wisely because this school is not worth your time.

This school is bad. Bullying, fights almost every week, bullying, undisciplined kids running around basically doing what ever they want, and more bullying. The school itself is alright, good lunches, GREAT teachers and music program but it has its problems.

I love this school! The teachers are great, and they are willing to help you, before or after school. Students are nice, and I've made many friends this year. I wish that there were more SMARTBoards, or that we had a chance to use iPads like other districts, but with the levies that passed in the fall, the schools will be much better! The textbooks are pretty old, ranging from 7-10 years old, to newer ones that are only 3. Again, I hope that the levies will fix this. This is the best junior high/future middle school (grades might be changing to 6-8) in the district, in my opinion.
