The band department should more help. No one focus's on the band. They have a wonderful band director, Caroline Fruge, but I think the administrators do not give any care to those band kids. They deserve more recognition. The students do nothing but judge and criticize them but I'd like to see those kids learn an instrument and learn to read music. The school spends more money focusing on just basketball and football. Nothing goes towards the band. I personally think they sound better this year because of the new band director. The band needs more help.

I do not agree with this school's support of sports. It is true that any high school should support the athletes, but this does not mean the administration should spend every dollar they receive into the athletic departments. Their band program is shamefully underfunded, which I find is a topic in need of consideration. I personally think academic achievements should be praised almost as much as, if not more so, than the athletic achievements. Their utter lack of usefully interesting electives is tiring, as I myself would enjoy the luxury of a psychology or drama class. I'm sure other students such as myself would agree. Of course, I have no problem with the basic classes Mamou High offers; I have yet to meet a teacher who didn't perform their job adequately. Also, the chemistry class could use a little more hands-on learning, as that seems to be the most popular learning strategy. I do understand, however, that the students at this school tend to be quite rambunctious and would likely goof off with chemicals and hurt themselves or classmates. If this school were less focused on their sports, they would realize the treasure trove of talented students they have.
