My son is in 7th grade at Phelps and this is our second year . We couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. Our son was immediately welcomed into their close knit community . Being a day student he has had the opportunity to participate in many community service , social outings , clubs and sports that he usually wouldn’t try . Phelps has opened so many doors for our son to try new things . The small classroom sizes and academic support has allowed our son to close academic gaps that he has struggled with in the past . Not only has he closed the gaps but he has surpassed our expectations academically and is constantly challenged on a daily basis . Phelps has a multi faceted learning approach that has allowed our son to stay engaged and motivated throughout the day . The teachers at Phelps are just as invested in our son and his learning as we are . They took the time to make sure he had solid foundation while also pushing him to his highest potential . At Phelps you will be constantly challenged , have amazing teachers and support and become a part of a fantastic close knit community .

The staff and basketball coaches are extremely invested in our son's development. They have played a pivotal role in his student-athlete development. More importantly, the environment has also placed high importance on the development of his character and leadership skills.

Phelps makes a concerted effort to know students as individuals and seek to cultivate in them the needed skills to both be a successful student here and as they pursue higher education. Staff genuinely care about the students and the boarding school culture allows them to know students personally outside of the classroom. Faculty and staff work together as a team to create a positive and supportive environment for both staff and students alike.

As an educator, former Head of School and college president, I have been genuinely impressed by The Phelps School’s educational paradigm. Their paradigm is a program of study known as the “Phelps Method”. The Phelps Method is focused on developing the complete boy -mind, body, and spirit - while sustaining their need for: - Independence - Structure - Individual achievement and - success. Phelps is a place of transformation of the whole boy, which, in turn, maximizes their life’s potential. C. A. McGeorge President Emeritus Missouri Military Academy

When my son needed a place very close to admissions deadlines, Phelps came through and my son just graduated from a very nurturing environment from both faculty and staff. I'll recommend this school to parents with children who have a challenge with confidence, learning and social skills.

Phelps is a unique place, As a student who was never a big fan of schools I was able to thrive at Phelps.Over my 7 years as a student I participated fully in the school life and activities, found my passions and interests. As the CEO/Founder of several large and successful companies with offices in 11 states and doing business worldwide I recognize that much of what has prepared me for that came from my time at Phelps.

Phelps' diverse student body and caring faculty and staff enable its students to find success, become more independent, and to be prepared for college and its academic and social challenges. The mixture of students who hail from all over the world and have come to this small town in PA for various reasons is often times remarkable as the chemistry on campus creates a tight-knit community that feels very safe for all of the boys.

Phelps already does many wonderful, life-changing things for the boys who attend here, but it also has a culture of constant reflection and improvement. Faculty and staff are dedicated to the well-being of the boys, and there is definitely a family feeling.

My son had many issues and The Phelps school helped him work through his issues. We cannot thank them enough for their patients with our son.

Phelps saved my son. The Phelps family enveloped my son into a world of understanding, friendship, confidence and a belief system that he could achieve. There was never a reason why he was only getting by in his past school, but that's all there was. However something changed once he entered Phelps. We began to see the young man we knew he was and in the last two years of attending Phelps, has grown into a young man who wants more out of his education. Coming from the public school system, we were left disenchanted and disappointed in his efforts. Since entering the private sector with Phelps, Harrison is now a member of the National Honor Society and is considering a medical degree. If you have a son who needs something different from the mainstream, for no reason or for every reason. do him and yourself the favor of looking into the Phelps School.

The Phelps school has been an incredibly rewarding experience for my son and our family. My son struggled with academics and was lost in a larger school. The attention to the individual and the passion for connecting with the student exhibited by the staff at Phelps has been beyond our expectations. Our son has been transformed from a disenfranchised child, lacking in self esteem to a successful student, engaged in sports and academics, capable of succeeding in an increasingly competitive world. Importantly, the teachers and staff at Phelps have consistently gone above and beyond what one would traditionally expect of educators and staff at school. They are an incredibly well connected group that communicates with one and other and formulates and changes plans to ensure the child's success. I could not be more pleased with the success my son has had at Phelps. Submitted by a current parent.

Phelps has provided the framework for our son to realize his potential and work hard toward his goals. It has not been easy or quick but little by little, he has turned into a young man. We have really noticed change in his belief that he can do the work and that he is as smart as any other kid. He has been able to understand the differences in learning processes and he has embraced work as he has come to realize that there are no excuses anymore. We are very grateful and proud for the opportunity our son has received and for the positive impact this will have in his life! It has all been possible through his effort and the support he has received from the Phelps staff.

My son attended the Phelps School for the 2013-1014 school year. Phelps is a great school in nurturing and supporting boys. Academically there is nothing better. We can see the students mature and succeed into wonderful young men. We have recommended your school to one of our neighbors here in New Jersey.

This school has strengths and weaknesses. The school has a very strong learning assistance program and also takes boys who need structure due to a wide range of reasons. The student body is more than its the parts, however; and there are some very talented and bright students. My son blossomed with the structure, small class size, and close relationships with his teachers. Phelps may not be Peddie, but provides individual attention to each boy. My son learned what you get into the experience is what you get out. He successfully took academic and extracurricular risks. He learned how to learn, how to focus on academics, to become excited about learning, to lead others, how to make the situation right for him, and what is good for one person may not be good for another. The school has taken steps to offer more rigorous classes. He has matured socially and academically; the school was a good fit for him, as it could be for others willing to try something different. The administration is very approachable and knows how to administer a safe and learning environment for boys in teenage years. The teachers and the school are highly invested in my son's total development.

This school is awful. If I could give it negative stars I would, because it definitely deserves it. I had the unfortunate opportunity to attend this school for 2 1/2 long years, and as a former student I can tell you that this school does not prepare you for anything later in life. The students that attend this school have NO future at all. Many of the students that go here have former drug, and legal problems. Also they will talk you into believing that students go on to be successful in college... FALSE! The Headmaster that was there my senior year mentioned to me before I graduated that 9 out of 10 students go attend college don't graduate... FACT! It's quite a pathetic place in all honesty. The campus is horrible, the food they serve at the dining hall is disgusting (I wouldn't even feed it to my dog). When I first went onto attend Bloomsburg University of PA I was completely lost. In the 2 1/2 years I had "forgotten" how to study. I know college is a big transition from HS but, I was so far behind every student that went to a real prep school or public school. If your looking to get rid of you son then this place is appropriate. It's just a dumping ground for washed up kids.

My son graduated Phelps in 2012 after spending one year there and I am enthusiastic. It is a great school with great teacher support and good quality teachers. I would recommend it to over and above any other school and he had attended three other schools. There are no troubled teens problems at the school and all kids there are very polite, very creative, respectful and disciplined.. They have effective teaching methods and get good response from the students. My son liked to go school and was not stressed, because the material was presented in interesting ways. the level of the material was on par with other schools. Although he was diagnosed with a math disability and although he took two math courses he managed to get an A and a B in them. I am full of praise for the school both academically and socially.

My son began attending The Phelps School in September 2010. He is 14 years old and has severe language based learning diabilities. I agree with the posting from January 2010, that the diverse population of the school is what makes Phelps a very special place. The boys are understanding of their differences and very supportive of each other. The faculty really cares about he boys in way way that is refreshing for a parent who has been given the run around from previous schools we have attended. I think any boy who is given this oppurtunity has a great chance at success in the future. Of course with every high school boys get into trouble from time to time, but the staff is so attentive and open to communication with parents. I have witnessed them handle problems and all issues in the most proactive way. This is an amazing school.
