If you are neurodiverse, run. Principal Frank is discriminatory against neurodiverse populations. Her staff is stressed and you can feel this the moment you walk into the school. Frank is cold and will not say hello or greet students that are disabled. She does not fairly allocate SEAs, and she will not attend or collaborate on IEPs. The teachers are inflexible to adjust curriculum. The children barely get outside and there is little play. This is our neighborhood school and it is in a very sad state. The building is also falling apart also so temperature and electricity problems have occurred regularly. I cannot recommend it. Many go private in our neighborhood due to this which is our route also now.

In regard to the bussing: unfortunately our city's neighborhoods are very segregated, and more unfortunately, we use our schools to try to help rectify that issue. We were more interested in making sure that our children learn in a rich, diverse environment, and with the excellent teachers and leadership at Midvale, our children (one is a top honor student, one is a National Merit Scholar) received a great education that met their needs. My children often thank us for making sure they were educated in a diverse environment - they see their college peers struggle in a real-world setting. I sat on a bus for an hour as a kindergartener through winding country roads and highways, so a 15 minute ride seems insignificant in comparison to the social rewards. Lincoln school - the partner school - is in a fine neighborhood, it's just different. I encourage any prospective parent in either neighborhood to see for themselves, both schools welcome parents of prospective students, and teachers and parents are more than willing to answer questions. Once a Mustang, always a Mustang!

Fine school but know that your children grades 3-5 will be driven past it as they are bused out of the neighborhood for the 20-minute+ ride on the Beltline, to its partner school (Lincoln) across town.
