This is a wonderful school as long as your child is a favorite of the teachers and staff. It's a shame because there is such a need for education for special needs children. I've heard many complaints from the parent's of former students and have dismissed many of those because people complain when they are angry about something. After this last year, I'm sorry to say, I think most of those complaints were probably spot on.

My stepdaughter attends Woodfield Academy, or I should say attended. Today, during her scheduled IEP meeting, her parents were informed that she was no longer able to attend Woodfield. Let me give a little history. She was diagnosed with a learning disability and dyslexia. She also has ADHD, anxiety, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has attended Woodfield for 3 previous years, this year began her 4th year. She attended this school because they were referred and were supposed to be able to assist her with her learning disabilities and to provide a safe place for her to learn.The major issues began during the 2019-2020 school year. She began to not want to go to school and the school would call one of us to come get her because they couldn't handle her. We have been called to the school more time than I can count, everyday this week except for today. They were understaffed and just could not dedicate just one person to her, when she needed one the most. The school is supposed to help children with disabilities, but this school did the opposite. Her teacher last year is the same as this year. Our daughter has said numerous times that the teacher is always saying that she is being rude when she is only trying to express herself and that she is always singled out for her behavior. This teacher today, on the one day we were able to get her confident and calm enough to go to class, decided to do nothing but cause anxiety because she kept reminding our child of how far she was behind, how bad her grades were, and why she doesn't get to participate with the rest of the class. Once I picked her up today, her teacher did not even speak. There has only been one teacher at this school to even attempt to help and understand the needs of our daughter, and she loves this teacher! Mrs. Bridges we are thankful for you!Woodfield is money hungry. They do not care about the children. They hire teachers that do not have the training or knowledge to help children with learning and other disabilities. They are understaffed and care more about the parents signing those scholarship checks that they do if your child can read or feels safe and wanted at the school

My son attends this school. Thankfully, it is his last year. They posted a picture of their seniors getting into the dual enrollment for college. My son who has been attending this school since 3rd grade was not even included in this opportunity. I was furious that they left him behind. What parent wouldn't want their child to attend college (especially in high school)? My son makes mostly A's and B's. The first part of his senior year, he spent over 50% of his time doing volunteer work. I wanted him ready for college. I had no idea that his senior year would be spent on non-academic activities. We do use the Special Needs funding, however, every 3-4 months we have to shell out another $945.00. It's hard to come up with this funding. If it wasn't his senior year, I would have transferred his to somewhere else.
