I was not feeling well and told my homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher told me to drop out and get a GED if I was not able to focus and concentrate on my studies. I visited the school counselor the same day after class and told her I did not feel well mentally and felt depressed. The counselor told me to get more organized. A few days later I ended up in the ER for unexplainable weight loss from 190 pounds down to 114 pounds with in a short period of time (like a week). At this point I was fighting for my life. I did tell my family that I wasn't feeling well and what happened at school immediately after speaking to my teacher and counselor. I was so out of it when I arrived home to the point that my family was scared and rushed me to the hospital. It had taken me about 20 years to get well and relearn everything that we as humans take for granted. I am writing this post because this school has been on a downward spiral since day 1! - Sincerely Student Class of 1998 - 1999

This school seems to baby sit high schooler than teach them. My kid teacher literally refuses to send homework home even though he needs the extra help and her decision is backed by the district. I have been told to go buy my own workbooks to work him from home. So parents never know what the kids are learning in school.

If I could give no stars, I would. This school is a joke and don't take threats and the safety of the students seriously. When there is a gunman on school grounds and children are running and screaming, it is school related, unlike the email that was sent out after the fact that said it wasn't. The school was told about these threats for at least a day before hand and they sent out an email to parents stating that they were just threats and not to worry. The next day, a man with an automatic rifle is at the school. My child, who is an honor roll student, was hit by some kid that was in a fight with a different kid as she was trying to get to another student who was giving her information that she missed while she was out sick. I went up to the school and all they were worried about was the fact that she was not at her next class and next to the fight. She had to defend herself against the Assistant Principle and like 4 other staff who were in this room with us.And they are more worried about students being in dress code and having their phones than they are anything else.My oldest daughter has been trying to talk to the counselor about moving her classes into the 11th grade class because the ones she is in, she has already taken. She has been trying for months. Finally, the counselor told her to come see her about it and when she did, the counselor was off and knew she would be off.My oldest is also taking college classes at Hutchins and that is the only thing that keeps her motivated at all. Both my kids are terrified to go to school and I am terrified to send them. I cannot count on this school to keep my kids safe or tell the truth when something happens. Absolute terrible school and staff!

My school expirence is terrible. If your schedule is wrong they take forever to fix it and they believe coming to school sick is more important than staying home and getting better. They also do not communicate certain information very well.

The leaders and other employees at Westside are passionate about their jobs, they care about the success of their students and they respond efficiently and effectively to (my) parents concerns.

The school is an amazing overall school. The teachers put forth so much effort into their students, All of them treating them like their own little kids. Which is awesome. Mr. Womack and Mr. Scott in the spotlight here, Hehe. The Football team, Marching band, And all others are very well skilled. They all put hard work, and dedication into what they do, Which should be celebrated in my opinion. Are you having doubts about westside? Don't. It's amazing as it is.
