All in all our experience with Monroe has been very positive. If we could figure out how to keep the incredible people coming in, I would have given even higher ratings. Also I do think there should be more homework expectations, and more things going on that prepare the kids for the expectations of middle school.

We live in a district with terrible schools, so we chose to drive our son over thirty minutes every day to Thompson District's Monroe Elementary School once he began Kindergarten. He is now a 2nd grader. In the past 2.5 years, this school has been such an amazing part of helping our son grow and thrive; I truly do NOT know what we would do if we weren't supported by the incredible teachers and staff at Monroe. Our son needs to be met on many levels: he is in Gifted and Talented for his excellence reading, on an IEP for speech, and is pulled out of class regularly into small groups with the school counselor to work on his social and emotional skills, which are lacking. He is all over the board with his needs, and at every step of the way, the staff at Monroe has been there to give him exactly what he needs. We could not be happier with our choice to place our son at this school, and I'm saddened to see what a low score this school has... If you have any doubts, please come and see these teachers in action. Come talk with our principal, Kathy, who has her sleeves rolled up and is constantly working to make the environment at Monroe as safe, inclusive, and enjoyable as possible in order to create the best learning environment for her students. This is a school that faces a lot of challenges demographically... they are not in a high income area, they do not have all the resources they would like, but I am telling you from first hand experience, this school makes miracles happen every day, mainly due to the tireless attention and love that every staff member gives to each and every student. Every child in the building is treated as an individual, with specific needs to be met and goals to be set. No one is left in the shadows. No one is forgotten here. The students are taught from day one that Monroe is a place where they can be safe and loved, while also being challenged to grow to their maximum potential. We will be forever indebted to this school for the love and devotion they have shown our son, and as an Early Education Professional, it warms my heart to know that this school will be around long after we have left it, making the lives of every child who attends better and more meaningful.

I am loving Monroe. The teachers and staff truly care about each child and it shows in the hard work they put in for their students. My son loves going to school and his teacher is very communicative and open with information about his time at school. The principal Kathy is also a great asset and works very hard on behalf of both the students and teachers at the school. We would choice into this school if it were not our home school.

This is a great school with a great principal at the helm. We just started this year and chose this school over our home school. Our older children attended their neighborhood elementary and had a good experience. We decided to make a change to better suit our younger children's needs. We appreciate the greater diversity at Monroe. The new principal is not new to us. She taught our children at their old neighborhood school. Having that history, I know great things are in store for Monroe with Mrs. Sather at the helm. Our child's kindergarten teacher has been nothing short of outstanding as well. We are looking forward to enjoying our children's primary school years at Monroe.

I have been pleased with this school. My son started in 2008 and my daughter in 2010, so I've seen many changes in staff and curriculum. Every teacher and staff person I've encountered has been caring and professional. My son has special needs, and I have found Monroe to be invested in helping him. My daughter is advanced, and her teachers have been working with us to make sure she is challenged. My only complaint is that staff turnover seems exceptionally high. There have been 4 principals (2 "permanent" and 2 interim) in the time we have been here, and that there has been a high level of turnover with the teachers. As a parent, I'm not sure what's behind this, but my kids get confused. It seems that at the end of every year, I hear that "so and so has retired" from my kids. That said, my kids have loved the teachers they have had, and I've been very pleased with the level of support the school has given.

my daughter had her first year here and her teacher was amazing, the principal however is Cold and too professional. I would love to have a principal that felt warm and goofy. The principal seems to know her numbers and policies but when dealing with children and staff that cares for the children I believe more Fluff is needed. most of the staff in front are friendly. I feel for the grade my daughter is in that she is challenged enough time will tell as she gets older but I will most definitely be watching out for her best interest!

My oldest daughter is in Kindergarten at Monroe. This is our first school and we are VERY pleased. She is challenged and is always eager to go to school every day. The few days she has missed school she was very upset that she was having to stay home sick. My daughter has a fabulous teacher! I really enjoy going and watching her teach the kids. You can tell she's someone who loves kids and loves teaching... just the kind of teacher we all want our kids to experience! I am also very happy with the administration, Our principal know's her kids. I can't imagine having to know 350+ kids names... but she does. She also treats them with respect. My husband and I are very sad to see her retire! I know that the testing scores were low for Monroe, but sometimes there's more than test scores to a school... From what I have seen they really try to assist the kids that are struggling and then those who are excelling and need extra challenges, they make sure they don't fall between the cracks and become bored. I'm glad we decided to keep our daughter in Monroe and look forward to our 4 year old to start Kindergarten there this next fall.

Not happy with the way they are dealing with my special needs child in the least. I appreciate the efforts given by teachers and staff but the fact of the matter is they don't know (either have not been trained or just don't care to learn) how to deal with him and his antics. The district doesn't want to pay for the aid that is so desperately needed and I think after only two months of school the teacher is at thier wits end. If you have a special needs child, look to transfering to Poudre.
