We have been at Woodcrest for 8 years and we absolutely love the school. The teachers are extremely caring and the kids are always excited to learn.

I can’t say enough great things about this school. When I realized public school was not an option for my family, we found refuge with Woodcrest. We made life long friends and were tremendously supported while we were going through the ups and downs of life. It is truly a hidden gem.

I cannot say enough good things about this Gem of a school in our community. I’m so grateful to have found this place. Two children and so far 6 years at this school. The community and family engagement is a priority here. So many of the families have become a close part of our family and we have made lifelong friends. A couple of families had personal tragedies and administration did everything to step up and help these families. One even offered to make lunches for the kids. Always checking in to make sure everyone is ok. Once we got Covid and they dropped off our school assignments and books at home. The way this school Stepped up during Covid shows how strong their ability is to pivot and adapt to change. Technologically we were way above other schools during Covid. The principal knows each one of the children inside and out. When there is conflict between the children she personally handles it and takes care of it. There is always a right teacher and teaching style to accommodate your child. The education is top notch. There was a little bump in the road when decades long management retired but everything is back on track now and even better with new energy injected into the school. If you are looking for an environment that nurtures your whole child where they feel loved and supported this is the best choice!

This school used to have an excellent reputation (prior to 2020). They went from having one fabulous principal to three administrators that cannot come to agreements. They also have a high turnover rate with teachers and aides. They advertise small classes but some have more than 20 students. If you're looking for a school that will cater to you then this one does and does it well for the continuous tuition. They will also pass your below grade level child to the next grade. They don't believe in holding back students, even if they can't read or know their letter sounds. Even public schools work with the families to benefit the child. It is known that they now have a resource person but even so the below grade level students are moved up. How is that benefiting the needs of the child? They will have to play catch-up and struggle in the next grade. I have seen the teachers work hard to benefit their students and sometimes with minimal support from the administration. There is a lack of discipline when it comes to students misbehaving and unfortunately this leads to the teacher having to handle it all. This type of behavior takes away the learning from the other students and makes it difficult for the teacher. As it would in any school setting. The school offers extra types of classes but good report grades are given in all even if a child doesn't listen. Definitely not fair to that teacher or the regular one. There is also no consistency in regards to the uniform policy. They have one but I've seen kids come in regular clothing (when not free dress day). How do you run a school without rules and regulations? Just seems unfair to send a child to an academic school when academic learning is taken away by misbehaving students and too many extracurricular classes. Not to mention a possibility of having teacher burnout when support is not provided. Great teachers there and I worry for their well-being and their students. These teachers want their students to succeed.

Working at this school was a stressful nightmare. I understand covid made everything difficult for everyone, but it seemed like this lack of organization was there from the start. When I was hired, I wasn't given much explanation about my position and my schedule was constantly changing. The upper/admin staff was not supportive to staff that weren't other admin or teachers. It seemed like everyday the students were getting awards or putting on performances and not leaning. Many TA's quit within 3 months of getting their job and those who stayed were treated like punching bags. I think the teachers are incredible and they were a pleasure to work with and learn from, but I feel they too get minimal guidance from the higher up staff. Many of the students I worked with had poor ELA skills and I was told that teachers were not allowed to fail students. It's also hard to understand how students are supposed to take in a punishment and be responsible for their actions, when they are punished and praised by the same person.

INADEQUATE. With ESL students and 4 year olds all over the place, this school is maybe a notch below public school. Classrooms are small, but there is no Teacher's aid. And again, when you have tons of foreign speaking students that don't speak English and need extra attention, it is almost as bad as a 30 student classroom. NO ONE gets kicked out. Even if you insult the teacher and throw shoes at him or her daily.

After a disastrous kindergarten year in a very highly rated LAUSD school (3 different teachers in 5 months) we were looking for an alternative where we felt our concerns (if we had them) would be heard. We have found Woodcrest to be a wonderful educational home for our child. He hated going to kindergarten but has never once complained about going to Woodcrest. In fact, he has refused to even consider any other option BUT Woodcrest for middle school.

My son has been at Woodcrest for 2 years now. We could not be happier. It's a small community with lots of support! He will hopefully stay at Woodcrest until 8th grade.

We are so lucky to have found this school. Our son has been here since kindergarten and is now in 4th grade. We will stay as long as we can and we’re thrilled when we heard they were starting a middle school. The class sizes are small with all the extra attention that comes with it. Our class sizes have trended on the low end through the years from 12-16. Each year the teachers impress us with their skill, insight into what works for each child and caring for every student. My son is a kid who doesn’t really care to read, yet somehow his teachers inspire him to keep trying. This is a place where your parent -teacher meetings are taken seriously and the staff spend time to make sure you understand your child’s progress and development areas. And Woodcrest is a community of caring staff, teachers and parents who make everyone feel welcome and that real learning matters!

I have two children at Woodcrest, one in the elementary school and the other in the middle school. The classes are small, which is a good thing; the maximum number of students per class is 20, although my kids have never had that many in a class. There is an emphasis on the use of technology in the classrooms including iPads and laptops. The teachers in both the elementary and middle schools really know the students and are very approachable to both the kids and parents. The same can be said for the administration. The elementary school includes as part of the core curriculum specialty classes every week which are science (with a lab), computers, music, dance, art and Spanish, each with their own dedicated teachers in their own classrooms. The kids also have multiple field trips per year and the fourth and fifth graders attend a sleep away science camp for 3 nights which they love (who doesn't want to get away from their parents for a few days?)!The middle school is small but growing. Because of this the 6th-8th graders interact with each other daily including in the elective classes which change quarterly but include cartography, cooking, video production, newspaper/journalism, and robotics. In fact, the robotics team just came in 16th in a Vex Robotics competition of 40 teams where only 4 of the teams were middle schools and the other 36 were high schools! If you are looking for an outstanding education for your child where they are part of a community and there is no tolerance for bullying, I strongly encourage you to check out what Woodcrest has to offer.

The 6/19 review was likely for the LAUSD Woodcrest, this private school is very well secured. So, 2 months of constant GreatSchools.org surfing and school tours ended today. We love charters, but explored the private sector in case we weren't lucky enough to be randomly selected to a favorite. We toured Woodcrest today and the thrill of the hunt was over. I had wondered what a private school could offer over some of my favorite tuition-free charters. What they offer at Woodcrest was too valuable to overlook, the tuition reasonable. They assessed my son and we enrolled for Kindergarten today. The small teacher/student ratio along with many parent volunteers make the environment very personal. In Kinder children were working in rotations of only 3 groups of 4 in a quiet room with a parent, a teacher or computers. I had worried about my bright but over-energetic son trying to focus in a kindergarten class of even 20. 3 recesses and every day they have an hour of either PE, Dance or Swimming in their Olympic sized pool. Technology was being used at every turn and the special science and art programs for 1-5 kids were OUTSTANDING! My son is over the moon excited!

I am so pleased with the changes the school has made over the past year. The school added an IPAD program, a robotics program, a laptop program, and hired new staff including a full time PE teacher and technology director. The school has also reached out to parents to form an advisory board to help with making impactful changes that will positively enhance my child's experience going forward. It is nice to see that the school is spending more money and energy on what matters most, teachers and curriculum.

My daughter just finished kindergarten in Woodcrest. The teachers are excellent, especially the class teacher my daughter had. They know in their hearts about the characters of each student. When I asked the teacher how my daughter acted about some inciddent, she could immediately described in detail, which I also observe similar behavior at home too. I am not sure about preschool part, since there is another director. but this page is to rank the elementary school. for the elementary part, it is absolutely excellent!!! and I see they keep improving.

This school is just wonderful. Everyone at Woodcrest is dedicated and kind. The school provides strong academics as well as classes in the arts. The staff is exceptionally well qualified many have been at Woodcrest for decades. Every teacher knows every child no matter the grade. The premises is always clean and safe and strict rules of conduct are enforced. My child has flourished at this school and I am so sad to leave this spring, but I know that he has been expertly and lovingly prepared for middle school

What an amazing school year! Woodcrest is an excellent elementary school with the most caring and dedicated staff. This weekend's Science Fair was just one more reason why I know that my child is getting the very best in education. Kudos to the principal and her teachers:)
