My child attended Kipp Sol from 2019-2023, prior to Kipp Sol my child had great school experiences, Kipp Sol changed everything. My child experienced bullying from kids and adults. There was a lot of favoritism by admin and other staff members. Since this experience at Kipp Sol my child has never been the same, struggles to go to school due to anxiety and depression. I knew at the time it was bad but now after reading the reviews I see just how horrible it really was and for a child that should feel safe and protected by teachers, admin, and staff, and didn't safe and/or protected is a shame. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

Mi experiencia en KIPP sol puedo decir que fue maravillosa, los maestros son personas que se preocupan por sus alumnos y saben lo que hacen dan más del 100% de ellos, mi hija tiene más de 5 años que se graduó y aún la siguen apoyando en la universidad, yo recomiendo a ojos cerrados a KIPP sol y siempre me sentiré orgullosa de que mi hija haya sido parte de ella.

My daughter attended Kipp Sol while in the 5th throught 8th grades. I write this review as a parent and school counselor at a different district. She had a wonderful experience and now as an 11th grader is thriving and is one of the top students in a very challenging High School. Kipp Sol did a great job prepping her for what is expected in High School. She gradiated from Kipp Sol in June of 2022.

It's unbelievable that SOL refuses to take accountability and acts surprised that the LAUSD Board denied their renewal. These issues didn’t arise overnight, but instead of addressing them, they chose to sweep them under the rug. Now, rather than making real improvements, they’re more focused on persuading parents to write positive reviews to save face. Yes, I am happy to write a REAL REVIEW. Not just what you want to hear to save yourself now. Transparency is nonexistent. They fail to communicate incidents involving students, and there are no real consequences for misconduct. As a result, students continue to engage in unsafe behavior without accountability. The staff turnover rate is outrageous—so much so that for years, they relied on substitute teachers instead of hiring full-time educators. Our children need stability, discipline, motivation, and a positive learning environment—none of which SOL provides. Don’t be deceived. The safety and education of our children should come first. If you truly care about your child’s future, find a better school.

The more "positive" reviews I see the more it upsets me. My child attended this school from 2019-2023 and it was the worst experince. All went well their first year but then the leadership changed. I was never able to get a hold of the "leaders" when I needed to speak to someone regarding my child's mental health and the issues at school with bullying. My child witnessed the same children being bullied several times and nothing ever being done. I had to follow up several times before hearing back. There were also times when inappropriate comments were made in front of my child as if they were a burden for coming in the office and letting someone know they were not feeling well. "Here we go again" when a child with KNOWN depression & anxiety comes in the office, is NOT the correct reponse. As a parent of a child who was suffering with their mental health, this only made it harder on my child and was very upsetting to me. They also misplaced important documents that my child returned to their office staff and when the documents were finally found, they tried to blame my child for still having the documents and my child was not even at school that day! You are telling me you counted my child as present when they was not even in class? My child did not feel safe or comfortable and hated every day they had to attend. Their attendance completely went down, and nobody even bothered to reach out for support. They also had constant subsitutes for most of my child's 8th grade year. It is my understanding that the same school leaders are still there now. I have another child ready to enter middle school and I will not even consider SOL.

I can clearly say my son is very fortunate to attend Kipp sol . Kipp sol has not only been there to guide my son with his education ,but they’ve also helped him emotionally . If for any reason I have a concern , the staff is willing to help me right away and if for some reason they are too busy because there is other students I’ll call or set an appt. Kipp sol motivates the students with incentive’s,which my son loves .

It’s such a shame how KIPP SOL had its downfall fall. The school is turning into Griffith (A unsafe middle school) Kipp sol Safety is clearly not important to the school and it’s a shame. I see fights every week if lucky every 2 weeks this school is such an embarrassment to East Los Angles. These “good” reviews are from 2018 back when KIPP SOL was actually in control of there students now they come and show up looking like gangsters to their pants to their knees and the girls with leggings? Do better kipp sol in 2018 students were required a bow and a tie to show up to school and now what? This school doesn’t care about their students and the teachers are worse. The teachers come showing up like they just woke up from sleep and they are so rude and these recent reviews prove that Kipp sol does not deserve to be open and hopefully never opens their doors ever again to ANY student LAUSD if your reading this Do not allow them to review that ulgy school. It does not deserve East Los Angles.

WORST school I EVER substituted at! Worst behaved students I’ve EVER had in 3 years of education. There’s NO PHONE in the classroom to communicate with anyone. Horrible school with horrible kids and an incompetent administration that enables bad behavior where students throw things at each other including me when I’m not looking. They have ZERO respect for humanity. 75% of the students are out of their seats and talk back to adults. This school should be shut down along with Camino Nuevo Charter in Rampart Village. I subbed here and they were the ONLY school that didn’t want me back because the kids didn’t listen to me when I kicked a couple out of class for throwing things. For reference, my company has emailed me twice praising my work. There is no leadership here, the kids don’t care, their parents obviously don’t care, and frankly, the administration doesn’t care.

DO NOT ENROLL your kid(s) here. I recently found out my son was getting bullied the entire school year. My son revealed to me the reason he didn’t want to go to school was because the kids at school would bully him and the teachers, present at the time, would not do anything about it. I called the school to set up a meeting and discuss what was going on. When I confronted the teachers with the fact that they were present at the time of the wrongdoing and chose not to do anything about it, they simply denied it and stated they could not do much about it as they would not be working there next year. As a mother, I feel like the school should not neglect bullying and stop the wrongdoing at the moment it happens before the situation progresses into something worse. Very irresponsible of the teachers and principal. I have now transferred my son to a different school hoping the teachers would be more transparent and preventative.

This school is great! KIPP Sol has given us the opportunity to give our child the best education we possibly can. She has performed well in every school she has attended but for middle school we were very lucky to have gotten into KIPP Sol. The hours are long but the excellent teachers make learning fun. Most of them are very young BUT they are full of energy and with great passion for teaching. All the extra curricular activities add the icing on the cake! Administration and office staff are friendly and will listen to your concerns and work with you to fix it. Like any other school parent involvement is highly recommended!

First of all, it is truly sad how this school portrays itself as a great school. This school, along with other charter schools can pick and choose who they will enroll. Students with behavior issues and disabilities are given little to no chance on being accepted here. Parents are bought by the idea that a charter school is better than a public school, but that is not necessarily true. The teachers are not all credentialed and quickly move on once they pay off their school loans. It is not a fair comparison to other neighboring schools who truly put self worth and incorporate hard work, experience, and love into the teaching of their students.

This is a great school the office and administrative are great, always communicative. Only 2 teachers here that are not that great. Dr. Cordero comes off rude when a concern is addressed and I have seen how she speaks to students when she gets upset my self and that is not acceptable. Mr. Spradlin picks on certain students and shows favoritism and when a concern is brought up to handle the situation he brushes parents off and shows no concern. My child is a straight A student and because of 1 assignment with him missed he did not give him an A and did not want to talk about what was going on showing favoritism to another child. Besides them this school is great academically and professionally.

the education they are getting is great like any Kipp school. but they lack communication from the administration staff. they say their always open for communication but you need to week or more to get a response for anyone of the administration. office staff is nice, teachers try their hardest with what they have but they need more help from the administration. there is a lot of bullying and bad language in class going on.

School has CHANGED MY LIFE (mostly in a good way) has allowed me to have many HUGE opportunities be opened, with hard work. I have been able to decided to choose between going to a private school or magnet school which is awesome. As a public school student before going to this school I would have just decided to go to public school. School hours and classwork is overwhelming and favoritism is high.

this school is not for everyone. no staff diversity - all young post americorps (teach for america) folks with little to no experience in the classroom. to their credit, they work hard, they're eager to change the world one inner city kid at a time. Those long school days can also be draining on kids since they are kept in very strict classroom settings most of the day and not able to let off steam in an unstructured environment - makes for a lot of pent up energy and anxiety in kids. No program or music program makes for a very academic heavy curriculum. Compared to the sub-par alternatives in the neighborhood, KIPP Sol is a good choice but not for everyone.

KIPP Sol Academy is a new middle school in East Los Angeles who is very well equipped with great teachers, staff and an excellent principal. I don't regret putting my son in this wonderful new school. I know that they they will not only challenge the students/our children academically but put them on a level that will help them reach their potential and personal goals to their journey to and through college. Be happy so far with the school.

Kipp Sol is an excellent school! The staff is extremely energetic and dedicated to the success of the students. They truly believe in empowering the students to be advocates. The staff shares their cell phone numbers so that students and parents can contact them about anything. They are great about responding to emails and phone calls in less than 24 hours (they usually respond within a few hours or even a few minutes sometimes!). The entire staff (Mrs. Minnix, Ms. Finn, Mr. Cruz, Mr. Cota, Ms. Franco, Ms. Gronquist, Mr. Aguiree, Mr. Alfaro, Ms. Moon, Ms. Herrera) is very caring and you can always count on someone being at the front gate to greet and welcome each student as they enter the school. Mrs. Minnix is extremely involved as a principal and makes it a point to know each child by name and really make them feel at home! The school day is long, but there are many extra-curricular activities for the students to participate in. Although it has only been a few weeks since school started, my child has already improved her study habits and become a lot more organized as a student. I am so glad that I enrolled my daughter at this school.
