My son is thriving at this school. The teachers are engaged, the administrative team is on point and the principal is fantastic. Parents are very involved which gives the school a great sense of community. I look forward to when my younger son is old enough to attend.

We did kinder here over the pandemic and our child is now in second grade. Wow! What a great public school. Fabulous principal, invested teachers, great families. We have been nothing but pleased. We are just bummed it doesn’t go thru 6th grade! We’d be thrilled if it did.

Worst school ever! They are biased against certain children and they are extremely neglectful to boot. When questioned about my 2nd grader being bullied by a 5th grader our concerns were blown off by the principal. Why are 2nd graders being left unsupervised with the 5th graders? Since when is it okay to kick another child in the face (leaving behind a cut and a lump the size of a quarter?)My advice to everyone, Don't send your kids here!!!! Find a school that cares! Find a school that doesn't leave 75+ kids to be watched after by 2 adults. Find one that cares enough to address your concerns regarding your child's safety. Last but not least, find a school that doesn't care what your income is. One that will not treat your kids differently than the rest of the children because of race or income.

Our daughter moved to Ivanhoe in her 2nd grade year, from a deeply troubled experience at LFCSA. When she arrived, she had terrible self esteem, had been grappling with anger issues and we really worried for her emotional well being. Everything changed when we came to Ivanhoe! She was like a flower that blossomed, thanks to the incredible teachers, staff and leadership at the school. They recognized very early on that she was intellectually gifted, and I can say with confidence that the teachers really take the time to focus on and see the child as an individual, rather than just a part of a concept or pedagogy to follow dogmatically. My daughter’s whole perception of self changed after her 2nd grade year and she continues to flourish, even through a pandemic. Throughout the shutdowns, the Principal consistently operated from a place of common sense, and pragmatism. It’s been so appreciated. We love this school, and are so happy to be back on campus!

Ivanhoe is doing the best it can with limited resources from LAUSD through aggressive fundraising. My child progressed academically at this school, made friends, and was truly part of a community. The staff are passionate about their jobs and seem highly qualified and effective. There were two aspects of the school that need improvement. First, the aggressive fundraising made us, the parents, uncomfortable. Our first correspondence from the school was about the “suggested donation” to attend, which was way over our budget. We were approached many times over the year about donating, even after we gave what we could. Second, my child’s classroom was extremely overcrowded. It was unclear how much personal attention my child received from the teachers, though the school did their best to staff the classroom with revenues from fundraising. My child still thrived, but this school might not be a good environment for children who need more one-on-one attention.

My children have been at Ivanhoe for four years. Ivanhoe has tremendous parental involvement which allows the school to offer programs that other LAUSD schools can not. The staff is professional and dedicated. Ivanhoe is a good as it gets in a public school, but that is the problem. It is a public school and subject to public school budgets and policies. The class sizes are much too large at every grade. There are no programs for gifted kids. However, somehow the school can provide personal 'minders' to individual students with difficulties, which is wonderful to be sure. The problem is that with such huge class sizes, teachers can not spend any significant time with any particular student. My experience has been that the teachers, although very good, exhaust their time on a few students who require constant attention and to preparing children for standardized tests that the state requires. Our experience at Ivanhoe is sadly summed up by what both of my kids have said, "I feel invisible." And now in preparing for private school, we discovered that tests such as the ISEE show that they are far behind in comparison to kids across the country as a whole, but are above grade level according to the standards of the school. Ivanhoe does the very best it can and it certainly has a lot to offer but public education is broken, and try as they might, the staff and faculty at Ivanhoe and every other public school just does not have the resources or physical space to meet all the students' needs.

Our daughter is in 1st grade and we couldn't be happier. The teachers are incredible, the front office staff are so kind and amazing at their jobs. Ms Rescia is such an effective and caring principal. The parent community are so welcoming and we are especially seeing the love and compassion this week during the strike. We are so grateful for our community and school. We highly recommend Ivanhoe!

My son has been at Ivanhoe for the last 3 years. He is going into 5th grade now. Generally, we are very happy with this school, except for one thing. For the last two years my son has been bullied at school consistently and nothing is getting done about it. I have talked to his teachers and to the principal multiple times, and all I hear in response is "We will look into it" and nothing ever changes. Now my only hope is that 5th grade would be better because one of my son's bullies has graduated last year. Otherwise we are looking forward to moving on to a Middle School.

Outstanding teachers, culture and leadership. Ms. Rescia, the Principal, is bright, articulate, and a natural leader. The ONLY thing missing is more ethnic diversity, but the neighborhood has been so thoroughly gentrified it's not surprising. Parents are great and there's a real sense of community. Parent volunteers, extracurricular programs and the best "PTA" aka Friends of Ivanhoe (a foundation that raises about half a million dollars a year) make this school one of the best in Los Angeles.

Best teachers, community and parent participation in town.

So far... not favorable. I live in the neighborhood and have never felt any hint of fear or racism from anyone except for the parents who pick up and drop off their kids here.

Amazing school! The perfect teachers and principle! The perfect learning environment for all children! This school has so much to offer, such as fun musicals and technology.

I was a student and attended Ivanhoe in the mid-eighties, awesome teachers/school/faculties, great experience and memories, totally recommended..."Keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars..."

The best elementary school in LAUSD. Teachers are exceptional and the parents are involved. Now if we could just get the County and State to chip in more tax dollars instead of less!!!

My daughter is about to finish her first year at Ivanhoe. Her teachers and principle have been outstanding. The community involvement has been out of this world. It makes me extremely happy that we purchased a home in this area of Los Angeles. It s hard to find areas of this city that feel like a community. This school is a big part of the reason this little hamlet does.

As the current school year comes to a close with my child finishing 4th grade, I panic to think I only have one more year at this incredible school. What middle school can hold a candle to Ivanhoe? Test scores & stats are just the basics of what make a school good but what makes a school GREAT is all of what Ivanhoe is (and I did not say offers intentionally). The diversity (both ethnically & economically) alone is an incredible learning experience not usually appreciated by a child until much later in life (yet priceless in today's global environment). From the maintenance people all the way up to the principal you will find the most caring & giving individuals. My experience through the years has been that the teachers do not bolt when the bell rings but instead doors have been open & inviting to both students & parents. But what really is the "piece de resistance" are the parents. A friend once told me that the world is made up of two types of people, givers & takers. Ivanhoe definitely tips the scale with givers, from Writers' Workshops to Guitar Clubs and more all free for the kids by countless hours generously given by parents. IVANHOE-the diamond in a megalopolis!
