In general if I were to rate this school 1 out of 5 last year or the years prior it would be 5 out of 5 however I am rating this school 2 out of 5 this year for 3 specific reasons 1. My child's teacher is new and horrible 2. I completely disagree with the no/minimum homework policy 3. I committed myself to help this school in a particular manner over a year ago and was blown off.

Choosing to send our children to St. Cornelius School was one of the best decisions we made regarding our children's education. Our kids were in public school at first but learned it simply wasn't the best choice for us. Our son is on the autistic spectrum and we searched for a school where he could be accepted and challenged. It was St. Cornelius, specifically Mrs. Hayes, that welcomed him and accepted him for who he was. She saw his potential without any hesitation. Mrs. Hayes is very familiar with special needs as she has a family member with special needs. We will forever be grateful to Mrs. Hayes and St. Cornelius for giving both of our children the education they needed and teaching them how to be good humans.

The school does not come close to meeting their own mission statement. As a matter of fact the principal has said “ I choose who I am inclusive” with. This statement was pertaining to a conversation where it had been brought up that the principal had quoted ADA federal regulations for one student and yet negated same ADA federal regulations for another student simply because she did not care to understand child’s disability. If you are looking for a school that believes parents, school & teachers work together for the future of our children, then this is not the school. You have to be willing to dance to the principal’s song choice as she holds the remote. Complaints are met with defensive attitude immediately.

Love the community and the hard working teachers. My son loves it there, feels safe and is learning a lot. As an educator I have very high expectations and wanted, like every parent, to have a great foundation. St. Cornelius has met every aspect of my expectations starting from their Instructional curriculum, parent engagement and involvement, school safety, and spiritual growth. We are very pleased with how the school is run by Principal and staff.

St. Cornelius is not just a school, it is a family. It is the village that raised me and now provides a wonderful learning environment for my son. The school's framework is the hardworking, passionate staff that are concerned with a "whole child" education. Students graduate with skills in academics that lead them into some of the most sought after, higher education programs in the area. As an even greater testament, many continue on to the top colleges and institutions in the country. The pillars of Character are an important reoccurring theme that instilled a strong moral and ethical sense in the students. Children know they are in an encouraging, safe, and loving place. I've seen my once shy son blossom socially and developmentally. I know by experience that many of his classmates will become lifelong friends. The community is made up of alumni, parishioners and caring parents. In a city like Long Beach these connections follow you throughout life and lead to opportunities, relationships and community involvement. We have loved every teacher we've had, and relish the gifts and talents that each of them have brought to share with the classes. I picked my son up from school today, and as he walked down the hallway I saw him stop to hug his First grade teacher with enthusiasm and love! He stopped. On a Friday. After the bell rang. That's all I have to say, we love St. Cornelius!

As a parent of children who have graduated from St. Cornelius and a current student, we are happy with the education, environment and community St. Cornelius provides. The faculty and staff are attentive and accessible. The education provided prepared our children to be successful in the most rigorous academic programs and classes in high school. The faculty and staff continually look for ways to improve and enhance the experience of the students. We are thankful for our years at St. Cornelius.

St. Cornelius School means the world to our family. It was there when we were struggling to find a safe and appropriate education for our children. Mrs. Hayes and her staff provided a safe place for our children and challenged them in their educational goals. Our children also learned respect for others, common courtesy, using good manners, and from the start, learned the importance of making good choices. We hold Mrs. Hayes and St. Cornelius in the highest regard and would absolutely recommend it to others.

All my children attended St Cornelius school and all have gone on to thrive in high school and now college. My youngest has been accepted to 3 colleges so far and we are awaiting answers from 2 others. It was more than the strong academic background that they received at St C that has helped them succeed. They also learned about appropriate social standards, good competitive skills, faith and that they are responsible for their actions. These are very important real world tools to have. I had one child that needed a little extra assist in math and it was provided when regular tutoring was provided after school several days a week. Math is very important to understand as it is a building block subject and one that is extremely important on college testing. I had a terrific experience st St Cornelius as it provided the kids a "small town" atmosphere of caring in huge LA county. There was also a great sense of community that extended to parents who experienced hardship during their time at the a school. I'm glad my children attended this school.

Why do negative comments disappear ? Anyway something that this school once had is gone. Ask recent parents of kids, my kids used to enjoy school. Its cold now, good teachers are replaced by inexperienced ones, kids are unhappy, I hope things improve but we probably won't return to see it if by some miracle it does.

I am a very happy parent of a child who attends St. Cornelius Catholic School! The environment is positive in every way. From the fresh-faced teachers who are passionate, competent, and caring to the awesome principal who keeps the school running flawlessly, the school has the staff to truly make this school great. A school is only as good as the people who run it. They are very kid friendly in that kids are number one. Kids are heard, kept safe from bullying, and taught what they need to know to be pure Christians and exemplerary students. There are positive and inspirational messages throughout the school that reinforce the teachings. I am glad I decided on this school and thankful that Mrs. Hayes is the principal!!

I went on several tours to choose the best catholic school for my daughter. After, narrowing it down to my top 5 I went ahead and chose St. Cornelius. The principal and teachers were very welcoming and very open to any questions I had about the school. My daughter was accepted into the TK program. I am looking forward to this upcoming year. I am confident I chose the right school for her. This school sends their students to not only Honor programs in local High Schools but to well known college prep High Schools. I can't wait for her to start the TK program this fall :)

My three children have attended this school over the last six years and the experience has been fantastic. All three of the children are testing well above there grade level due in large part to the hands on instruction given by the highly dedicated teachers and administration. The school truly operates like a family. The teachers are very interactive and communicate proactively with parents. The principal is fantastic. Like most principals, she has to deliver difficult messages from time to time and always exercises strong judgement and balances the needs of the community and the students. I would give the highest recomendation to this school, teachers, administration and parish staff.

My son and my daughter attend St. Cornelius Elementary. I am amazed at how much information they are learning. All the teachers are truly dedicated to the children's academic future. The principal is a great lady, a fine leader and well respected among teachers and parents alike. If you want your kids to do well in life, send them to a public school; if you want your kids to be good students, send them to a private school. However, if you want your children to be outstanding citizens with exceptional knowledge and skills, send them to ST. CORNELIUS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL !!

My son attended public school for two years, and I am so glad we decided to change to St. Cornelius. Bad behavior has always been adressed by the teachers. My son felt very welcomed by the students and staff. My second child started last year and he is doing wonderful. Such a loving enviornment. We are happy on every level!

The teachers at this school are fantastic and the curriculum is challenging for those who want to work hard and learn. The social environment is terrible though, especially for a newcomer. There is bullying and a lot of bad behavior that is being ignored. I am looking elsewhere.
