I have two children who are attending LCS and every bit of their education is an uphill battle. One of my children is significantly ahead of their classmates in terms of academics and is forced to stay in their grade bored with the material because they are learning nothing new. The school is unable to establish any type of “gifted and talented” program due to a lack of staffing due to being one of the lowest paid schools in the area during a time of a national teacher shortage. Some of the teachers choose to teach controversial adult content to students starting in 4th grade rather than anything related to the subjects they were hired to teach. The school and district administration doesn’t address parental concerns regarding the material being taught. Regarding social/emotional support like the above rather than support students development in a positive way, teachers confuse the students with personal subjects they are not trained to teach, informing students they can choose to be “furries”. Special Education: my other child is in special education, by that I mean that they have an IEP, which is where the special education program stops for LCS. The school lacks the special education staff to adequately support the special education needs of its students and the case managers will refuse to include needed supports in an IEP if the school does not have the staffing to support them leaving our most vulnerable students to fend for themselves, in violation of fair education laws.Safety: due to a lack of staffing, violent special education students are placed in traditional classrooms, these students are free to destroy their classmates property, the school property and harm others with no compensation or corrective measures in place and the teachers are expected to handle these students alone.Family engagement is really hit or miss with the teachers, some teachers are fabulous, others seem antisocial and very rarely communicate with parents unless it cannot be avoided. I was very much opposed to school choice before I encountered this school system, now I wish more then anything I could get my children out of here.

We have two children that have attended, one has moved up into the middle school and is doing well. We have been very happy with this school, staff and teachers. Very great community feel in the town as well. However, they could use more support from the superintendent/upper administration, which seems disconnected from the work the staff and teachers are doing.

My 6 year-old child had a traumatic experience in his life and thus, he is acting out. The principal and teacher are more concerned with expelling him than helping him. They told me to just homeschool him. Well, I'm a single father and I have a job. I cannot afford a home school teacher and I don't have people willing to babysit him at 6am till 4:30pm. I've told this to the principal, but I was just dismissed. She pretty much stated she doesn't really care what happens to my child and has done NOTHING to provide me with other options for his schooling. Also, on a separate note, I've found out that they talk to children about the whole LGBQT pronoun stuff out of the classroom. Because of this, I say PARENT BEWARE!

Great parent-teacher group. Responsive faculty and administration. Daily announcements and good communication. Free family events, encouragement of participation in civic and community functions, and a sense of community and belonging.

They offer a quite a few after school programs and has a good rec program. My child learned a lot and was happy every year that they went there.

My children have gone through this school and are currently at the middle school and high school. They have been challenged, offered opportunities and a variety of activities. The staff are amazing and friendly.

This school has turned out to be a fantastic place to bring my children. There are daily alert emails sent telling you what is happening in the school & what is going to happen. The teachers I have met are all wonderful. I will get a phone call or email if anything goes on that I need to be aware of, & sometimes just to keep in touch. There are many different free activities going on every month for children & parents to participate in. I walk into the building & the V. Principle knows my children & I by our names, not because they are trouble, but just because. This is a small & closeknit town, I have found it to be a wonderful place to live, work, & learn. I can honestly say this town is a wonderful place to raise children. * * * GO GREYHOUNDS!!!* * *

The school looks nice, the teachers seem nice but I seriously have to question the learning method. I have volunteered in my daughters classroom on numerous occasions and there is NO discipline on the base level. The children are not focused or structured and there seems to be a very low standard of learning- there are kids reading the same level books they started with at the end of the year. Budget cuts have sliced the 'gifted and talented' program with nothing in its place. I would have to question the other reviewers....it takes more than a NICE looking school and NICE teachers to make a learning system successful!!
