I am a senior looking to graduate on time in a University. My first year in my University was very hard to adapt to considering the lack of preparation Linden High school provided. My peers and friends in my University claimed it either did not feel different, or was in fact easier. They all come from better districts and received exceptional educations that DID prepare them, unlike Linden high school did for many of it’s students. I had to reframe my own thinking, form of studying, and even writing to succeed in my University. While the high school teachers are mainly kind, the educational system is failing its students. My sibling was absent from school for over half of their last year with no repercussions and literally straight As. Allowing this led to a lack of discipline when moving onto college— and a drop out after the very first semester. From what I know many of my previous class mates have dropped out of college as well or have only pursued an Associates. While there is not necessarily anything wrong with that, I would say I blame it on the faulty education we received. I have taken classes teaching me that this is meant to encourage students to stay in school and get their high school diplomas, but I think this is merely an immediate solution that leads to more long term problems. It is a vicious cycle preparing students for failure rather than preparing them for success.

I am studying at this school and would like to share my impressions, maybe someone will be interested. Let's start with the attitude of teachers towards students. In general, no teacher treated me poorly; on the contrary, some teachers were very kind to me and tried to help me because I am a foreigner. I was pleasantly surprised. Personally, I did not encounter bullying, but I saw how a boy who wears a wig and women's clothing could be teased or insulted. I even saw how they picked on and laughed at a boy with mental problems (I don't know exactly what, maybe autism). Fights often occur in this school, and teenagers often smoke e-cigarettes in the bathrooms daily. As for education, I don't think this is the school that would suit you because some teachers are not very interested in it, and in principle, I think this school is not for these purposes. The school is old, and it would be good if they fixed and cleaned up some classrooms. Overall, I wouldn't say this school is very bad, but it's not good either.

If you want your kids to excel, Linden High School may not be the best option. As a result, teachers are not teaching, the kids are learning through youtube videos, and when asked for assistance, responses such as "should have paid attention" are given. The teacher called my son an idiot when he didn't know an answer, and when I spoke with the higher authorities, nothing was done. As there are many fights and kids who smoke in the bathroom, I would not recommend LHS as a school for those who would like their children to attend.

Moved from NY on 2016 and bought a house in Linden thinking about my daughter education and well-being. During the time my daughter was attending to LHS she was exposed to everything and discriminated by staffs as well as student. A lot bullying going on! Went to discuss my concerns with the district superintendent but nothing was done. We ended moving! Sadly most of the property taxes go to the school.

I have to say I am very disappointed in this school for numerous of reasons. I moved from Elizabeth to Linden in expectation that the schools were better but sadly, I was wrong.

Average. Not excellent nor bad. Just average or slightly below average. The district needs to stop hiring family members of the administrators or current staff. Also, be realistic about the academic performance. It’s Linden, not a J level district.

I think LHS is wonderful for students that WANT to learn. There are many classes offered at different levels: honors, AP and IB. If the student runs around like a homeless dog without parental supervision, with his pants hanging, then it is OBVIOUS that NO SCHOOL will be able to help that kind of disrespectful, foul-mouthed child. LHS is mostly rated by disgruntled parents that are mad about their offsprings' unsatisfactory's grades; often directed by their own lack of education and a seeping, festering vendetta. Teachers are there to DELIVER INSTRUCTIONS, and after school it is the job of the CHILD to learn those instructions. My child graduated form LHS with honors and is currently writing his dissertation thanks to Linden HS teachers and the IB program. Thank you!
