Alright, Culler is definitely the ideal school to go to. But, on that same note it's a great place. I'm going to try and touch base with all the pros and cons. Learning at culler is a 50/50 depending on what you are trying to learn, need help with, and the teacher you have. Teachers will swear up and down that they're fair and yet manage to be incredibly biased..Yet so far this year I can tell the school is making a attempt to be better. They've got a handful of new teachers, as well as counselors. A step up from some of the discriminatory staff they had last year. Like any school there's a handful of fights here and there. The nurses are a 50/50 chance as well. They'll underestimate major things, and overestimate minor things. Even with their new form system that you have to fill out to go to the nurse it still sucks there. And the form itself is insane because..why do you have to wait to go to the nurse? If I broke my arm, who's filling out a form and waiting for the nurse to call my class? Culler is a diverse school when it comes to their students and teachers but I feel as if they could do more to help students learn to embrace and learn about their heritage rather then throw a flag up for each student that immigrates from said place to the school, or niche spirit week ideas that don't get the idea of a spirit week. Which is where the student council comes into play. As a ex member I can say proudly that the student council sucked. It was boring, you didn't get to actually help with anything, and to be honest it was kind of racist. Especially around black history month when deciding who to put on the unity wall. Culler is a good school if you have friends there, like seeing fights, and like some of the teachers. Downside is they don't focus on the tea issues. Culler would be a great school if they focused on getting school wide tutors to raise the kids overall grades. It's unbelievable at how many people around me aren't getting the fair education they deserve. As well as the schools lack of resources for LGBTQIA+ students, POC, and things as such. If they embraced unity and respect as much as they market it then the school would be a wonderful place. The only real sources and fun that come from the school is CLC, ran by everyone's favorite people iykyk. They make going to this school worth it. As well as other little clubs like the schools drama club. These few things are what's keeping me here. So I pray culler realizes this and does better.

Enforce the stated expectations here and the school could be great. The behaviors that are tolerated are obscene. Literally. Kids laying atop one another during recess. Yes, it's here. Kids chasing others through the hall to fight them. Yes, it's here. Kids throwing items (pencils, chromebooks, bags, chairs) at others. Yes, it's here. Culler and LPS needs to stop doing all it can to keep kids who commit rule violations in this school, and start utilizing in and out of school suspensions for kids not following the very reasonable rules set. It is simply unsafe. It sends a message to all kids that rules are a suggestion, not an expectation. I'd honestly rather have a much lower attendance and graduation rate from typical home schools that enforce the simple safe, respectful, responsible rules. Then school could just be the normal "ugghh, school" rather than the very physically and mentally unsafe places they are now. Certainly true for this one. Admin and the school board needs to support teachers to remove kids who cannot follow the rules. Once that starts happening, school can return to being a place for learning. Take the behavior problems out of regular classes. Allow them to return once skills are taught and a behavior plan is in place. If the behaviors continue, remove them again. Stop tolerating rule violations, disrespect, violence, etc. There is a huge difference between understanding trauma and inappropriate and unexpected behaviors and excusing or tolerating. Get your act together, Culler. Like yesterday.

I’m writing this because I have felt so frustrated because of this school. There is a 3:1 ratio of okay teachers and downright ignorant teachers. There are teachers who ONLY hang out with popular students. If you ask that teacher for a drink during recess, they’ll say “No,” so casually. Are these teachers just sensitive? Getting a drink is not robbing a bank. I understand that there are school procedures that the teachers must follow. But it’s as if these teachers enjoy getting students to shut up.On the topic of discrimination, it’s bad. Well, better. I guess, as new programs are popping up where POC speak about their experiences with racism. But before that— other people would call me slurs, so loudly all the way across the room, yet the teacher can’t hear it? I was called slurs and made fun of for speaking my language but the teachers don’t care. They’ll just ignore it and let it pass. After all, when you go to the next grade, they won’t have to deal with the trouble anymore—if it even BECOMES trouble. POC already feel discouraged to speak up about their experiences, when the teachers ignore these racist behaviors, how do you think they feel? I am not referring to all teachers, but perhaps Culler should reconsider their hiring decisions. Violence at Culler Middle School. It’s not discussed enough although fights have been on the news. In recent years, a kid took a knife to school and jokingly threatened a girl. Of course they expelled that student. Somehow, Culler Middle School does well in stopping the fight after the damage is done. Yet they cannot prevent it before it has occurred. There are fights every other day between students. I'm not saying that it's poor supervision. Theres nothing that the teachers can do about it, but the new system in preventing violence isn't effective. As in the jump code where you report to the school counselor when you feel as if you and another student might quarrel. There's a small chance that these students will even bother to open their Chromebooks and fill in this report. But say that they do: there are 200-300 students in each grade. Do you think that the counselor will be able to see that report before that fight has occurred?Learning-- "Students feel excited about their lesson." No. It's more draining than anything. Perhaps it's not the teachers fault, but the unmotivated students. Statistics say that grades are way below average. Maybe they should try to motivate students. Thanks the teachers who cared.
