As a student at ECHS Lawndale ive first hand seen how the staff and educators act with crying outbreaks or getting in students faces when they cant control themselves. The staff complains about how their devices stress them so much and create a mandate specifically for the students excluding the use of phones and removing them from the student for a parent to pickup which does not consider students who walk/train home or have work after and cannot get a parent there. Instead of communicating with the students they choose to power trip over anything they can, EX 5 months detention over a fake news chat. The teachers despite being great humans(some) are still students in college themselves and aren't even qualified to teach yet. The school makes major price cuts and can barely afford food for students. Personally documenting the unedible meals between me and my parents where we've opted to buy meals to bring instead. Ive recieved detentions and fits from staff for being less than 5 minutes late because my ride was still finishing his 12 hour overnight shift and instead of staff asking "Hey what happened" im greeted with detentions and backlash. At this point I can show up after skipping 1st period and come second and not get a detention but that makes total sense on the schools part that showing up 4 mins late determins a detention. There is so much more than what this school brodcasts but if you send your kid here at least see what happens daily between the staff and kids.

The staff does an excellent job mediating conflicts and coaching the kids on communication and conflict management skills. They are also provide proactive academic support so that no student is left behind. They are kind and transparent with students and parents and have the most positive attitude.

ECHS excels and out ranks most, if not all, surrounding high schools and further. School is for learning and academics and that is their focus. There are some sports offered and if they expanded that, it would be even better. The environment is calm and safe, unlike your typical large overcrowded high school. I would recommend ECHS to all parents for their children.

I attended ECHS-Lawndale from 2010 - 2014. One of my favorite memories from HS was going to Catalina Island as a 9th grader! I was also in multiple after school clubs and sports including Leadership, music, and cross country. My teachers and counselors supported me through classwork and college requirements! ECHS-L never failed to provide me with opportunities that ultimately led to my college acceptance and enrollment. ECHS-L prepared me for college and thus I graduated from Williams College with a Chemistry and Latinx Studies bachelors degree. I am so grateful for ECHS-L and all of the opportunities they afforded me!

Very great. I'm a former student who is in his third year of university. I'm not sure who the teacher from the previous rating was, but I believe I remember that day too. The "gun shot" was not really near the school, nor did it scare me as a student. I understand that maybe that day was chaotic, concerning for staff and hard for some to manage but I was there and didn't feel threatened in great harm or for other students in a harsh way..

I was a former teacher of this school. I heard gun shots more than once on the streets. I remember the day before Thanksgiving all the administrators had left early and the school was under gun threat and we, the teachers, put the students under lockdown. We had no procedure and no administrator would answer their cell phone. I would fear for my child's safety at this school. In this day and age, I hope you don't delete this post. The parents need to know....

This was the first year for both of my kids in this school. One of them was in the 9th grade and the other 10th grade. Initially I feared that the total focus was going to be on the environment and not academics. Boy was I wrong. They found some way to balance making the kids aware of the environment and keeping up (and some cases surpassing) what is required to move forward in their academics. I also had the opportunity to attend the 1st Board Meeting of the year. I felt welcomed join and was encouraged to come back. As a parent, it was a great opportunity to learn more about the people running the school. I really love the fact that you can call or email the teachers (except the art teacher) in addition to going on the web site to find out how you child is doing. I look forward to 3 more years.

New school for my 11th grade daughter and so far she likes it. I like the fact that it has to do with the environment. Great principal. She's very friendly and nice. Staff is great too and helpful. The school is small but that's great.

My son will be graduating from ECHS this June. It's a small school with many wonderful qualities. They place an emphasis on students striving to attend a 4 year college. They also have a fantastic campus with edible plants and trees everywhere and are creating stewards of the environment. The teachers are great, the office staff are amazing and there's a real family-feel throughout. I wish parents would be even more involved as there are many opportunities for family involvement but realize most are doing the best they can with limited time and resources. Teachers and staff have always been responsive whenever we've needed to reach them and many went out of their way to help our family when my son was severely injured last year and was bed-ridden for 3 months of his Junior year.

I am a Junior year student at ECHS. I will graduate in the year 2013, i am proud of how this school changed my. I really matured in this school and when i cam to this school in 9th grade i did not think of college the way of i think of it now. I love this school, they really help you and pay attention to you. I would really recommend any parent that wants their child to strive on their education to go here. They help you out on anything you would think of, i am already planing to enroll to universities and they sure help when i ask many questions. I am proud to be a student at ECHS, 2013 :D
