Tamiscal is an amazing school for high school kids who are truly interested in stepping away from the typical large school high school experience in Marin. The teachers are highly skilled, student-focused and committed. They actually get to know each student's interests, capabilities and unique strengths. My daughter came to Tamiscal after finding the large schools "teaching to the tests", rules-based, and socially toxic. At Tamiscal, she has thrived, engaging in active learning, finding room for her curiosity and trusting herself to manage her own schedule. It's wonderful!

A lot of people don't know about Tamiscal, and some know it but really don't know exactly what it is. I transferred to Tamiscal from Drake (which I transferred to from Redwood), and it has provided the best overall educational experience out of all three schools. Tamiscal provided me with the one-on-one learning experience and quiet social atmosphere that I needed as a socially awkward/anxious student that liked to blend into the background in both classrooms and lunchrooms. This type of school isn't for everyone, and there have been times that I've hated it for making me visible, but the teachers AND administration truly care about you. Tamiscal truly feels like home to me, though that statement is cheesy and overused. Anyway, if you need to emerge from the secludes bubble that is Tamiscal, you can take classes at Redwood, Drake, or Tam.TL;DR Great school, great teachers, 1on1 Eng./Hist. classes.

Tamiscal is a great alternative High School that received #1 Independent Study High School of 2010. Their nurturing compassion contributes to students self-worth which promotes the well being in life as a whole and academic success. They encourage expansion of mindful pursuits to attain dreams and goals. Absolutely the greatest Principal whom graciously perpetuates cooperative learning. His compassionate influence shines through the most wonderful staff that attends to the needs of each student in their school. Hands down an absolute 5 Star Vote !!! Parent Juliette
