We have been proud Chronos Academy parents for the last two years because we have seen firsthand how much the school has done for our son. We have seen him grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally over this time. He is just finishing the third grade and has learned Latin, developed a deep understanding of WWI and WWII and has mastered complicated multiplication and long division problems. Socially and emotionally, we are proud of how our son has learned to respect other students, resolve disputes amicably, and accept other students for their differences. Chronos also has a practical component to their education. We have seen the children design and implement projects that will solve real social problems. For example, our son and his classmate designed and built a model for a pop-up sleeping pod for the unhoused. Our son’s intellectual, social, moral and emotional development at Chronos Academy has exceeded our every expectation.

This was our first year as part of the Chronos community (our 10 year old just finished his 4th grade year there) and what a difference a year can make! A year ago at this time we were looking at a great report card from his previous school and a kid who was alternately bored and frustrated with school. It was tough to see him struggling to engage and really not enjoying school despite being a bright kid, and we looked at a number of alternatives in SF and Marin. For a lot of reasons, Chronos seemed like the best fit for him, and while we were delighted to get an acceptance letter, switching schools was a big move and one that we really considered carefully (involving more than a few sleepless nights.) With one year in, we wish we had made this switch earlier. We were really blown away by the level of interest and hands on support the amazing teachers have for each and every student there. The amount of academic growth we saw this year was pretty astonishing, but what was more impressive and important to us is how much our son loves going to school now. It's small, it's different, and it's amazing.

The teachers at Chronos, especially Mr. Daniel, are beloved by the kids. As a parent, the teachers' enthusiasm for supporting kids and for sharing knowledge is notable. Chronos developed their curriculum which follows a historical timeline and links innovations across fields. For example, when the kids learn about Einstein, they also learn about the art, music, and political events happening during his lifetime. Learning is a mix of traditional (memory work, quizzes, essays) and hands-on in every subject. The "make history" projects are especially fascinating. Kids are encouraged to set their own pace and can accelerate above grade level. Strengths and learning challenges are supported. My kiddo loves it. It has been game-changing for him in math where he is finally motivated to do his best, which has meant starting algebra in 6th grade.
